8 MV16i Multivision Plus 1. power This 2.1 mm pin jack accepts the MV16i series power module plug or other center positive source of 12 VDC at 1.5 ampere. 2. remote This DB25-S connector allows remote control of MV16i via RS-232 data or optional remote control panel.
Installation and Operation Manual 9 INSTALLING THE MV16i Select a location for the product that is clean and dry and has AC power. Find an environment where temperature and humidity ex- tremes do not exceed the product specifications (see Technical Specifications ).
10 MV16i Multivision Plus Alarm Inputs MV16i Alarm Inputs accept a contact type or TTL/CMOS alarm signal. Connect alarm pins 1 through 16, as required, to one side of a contact type or TTL/CMOS compatible alarm device. Con- nect the remaining side of each device to ground ( alarm pins 18, 19 or 20).
Installation and Operation Manual 11 SYSTEM CHECKOUT MV16i system operation can be checked immediately after instal- lation with the MV16i in the factory default state. While the MV16i itself requires no adjustment, system components such as the monitor, cameras and video recorder should be checked for proper operation and adjustment.
12 MV16i Multivision Plus Camera Check The MV16i multicamera display capability makes checking cam- era performance as simple as comparing two pictures on one screen. This method is preferable to the direct camera to monitor tech- nique because it allows precise adjustment of each camera against a chosen reference camera.
Installation and Operation Manual 13 Making a Test Tape The easiest way to verify MV16i system operation is to make a test recording and play it back. This process effectively tests every piece of equipment in the system. Before proceeding with the test tape, complete both the monitor calibration and camera check procedures.
14 MV16i Multivision Plus MV16i SETUP MV16i features can be configured to suit the requirements of most video installations. The Setup Menu System A convenient system of on-screen menus allows you .
Installation and Operation Manual 15 SETUP MENUS There are seven menus in the Setup menu system. The following paragraphs take you through the menu system step-by-step, de- scribing each menus purpose and options.

Installation and Operation Manual 17 Alarm Input Polarity The Alarm Input Polarity option controls the polarity of all MV16i alarm inputs. It toggles as follows: ACT LOW Active alarm inputs are low. The MV16i rec- ognizes a contact closure or TTL/CMOS logic low as an alarm event.
18 MV16i Multivision Plus The Number of VCRs option indicates how many VCRs are con- nected to the MV16i. It enables the MV16i to optimize system performance during advanced VCR operations such as index search. It toggles as follows: ONE One VCR is connected to the MV16i.
Installation and Operation Manual 19 Menu 4 displays the MV16i Alarm Duration setting. This option determines how many seconds the MV16i remains in the alarm state after an alarm event occurs. Use the up arrow and down arrow buttons to set the Alarm Duration time in seconds (2999).
20 MV16i Multivision Plus You perform motion detection setup using the MV16is Motion Setup screen by selecting motion detection targets in the cameras field of view. To access the Motion Setup screen, press function while the Cam- era Titles menu is displayed.
Installation and Operation Manual 21 The target cursor line is initially positioned in the first row of targets. Active targets are circled. Inactive targets are not circled.

32 MV16i Multivision Plus When a mechanical alarm occurs in Live mode, the MV16i alerts the operator and performs tasks required to record the alarm event on videotape. When the initial alarm is detected in Live mode, the MV16i does the following: 1.
Installation and Operation Manual 33 Tape Mode Alarm Response When a mechanical alarm occurs in Tape mode, the MV16i pro- cesses the event in the background. It performs tasks required to record the alarm event on videotape but does not indicate the alarms to the user.
34 MV16i Multivision Plus The MV16i detects loss of video at a connected camera input by monitoring the cameras video sync signal. The Video Loss Alarm option controls this feature.
Installation and Operation Manual 35 The MV16i detects recorded alarm events by monitoring the VIS information returned from tape. Each field of recorded video is encoded with alarm status information, camera number, camera title, time and date. The MV16i uses this information to identify camera related alarm events.
36 MV16i Multivision Plus Video Motion Detection The MV16i detects changes in camera video (motion) at any con- nected camera inputs. It responds to motion by increasing the rate at which that camera is recorded and displayed. The goal of motion detection is to prioritize cameras for display and recording.
Installation and Operation Manual 37 Motion Sequencing When no motion is detected, the MV16i samples cameras in cam- era number order. Each time through the sequence, the VCR and the display receive one video field from each camera.
38 MV16i Multivision Plus The features and flexibility of the MV16i make it a powerful tool in special applications where unique capabilities are required. This section describes several ways to use the MV16i. SPECIAL APPLICATIONS Simultaneous Record and Play The MV16i encode and decode circuits operate simultaneously.
Installation and Operation Manual 39 Multiplexed video transmission allows two MV16i sites to moni- tor each others cameras. The operator at each site can display either local cameras or remote site cameras. MV16i operation is normal except that the operator presses the function+tape but- tons to display the remote cameras.
40 MV16i Multivision Plus MV16i Remote Control The MV16i provides two methods of remote control, RS-232 data and a remote control panel. Both methods use the rear panel remote connector. Remote Control Panel The RP1096 remote control panel provides additional control points that can be located up to 1000' from the MV16i.

44 MV16i Multivision Plus APPENDIX B ALARM RECORDING CONTROL Uncontrolled Alarm Recording When alarm recording is not controlled, the VCR records alarm cameras as normal video. Recorded operation is not affected by alarm events. The VCR simply records alarm video output by the MV16i at the set time-lapse speed.
Installation and Operation Manual 45 Controlled Alarm Recording When alarm recording is controlled by the MV16i, the VCR re- sponds to the alarm signal provided by the MV16i. The recorder goes into the alarm recording mode and records at the set alarm record speed.
