CX400 User Guide PN 9001107 Rev. A Page 9 Loading Ribbon The CX400 thermal transfer printer transfers ink from a ribbon to the label to p roduce an image. 1. Lift the top cover . 2. Press the two print head rele ases down to unlock the print head module and expose the ribbon supply spindles.

The sensing method used by the printe r must match to the media being used. If you are using lab el printin g software, it shou ld provide a mean to set up these pa rameters.
CX400 User Guide Page 12 PN 9001107 Rev. A Using the Printer Printing a Self-T est Label Printing a self-test label checks the printer overall operability . T o run a self-test, confirm that the printe r is loaded and connected to AC power and no print jobs are in process.
CX400 User Guide PN 9001107 Rev. A Page 13 Feeding Blank Labels T o feed a label you press the FEED butt on if there is no image in the printer buffer . T o clear the image buffer you must press and hold the FEED button for at le ast 5 seconds and then release the FEED button.

Printing Labels T o print labels, the host computer sends commands to the printer via the serial or parallel communicatio n po rt.

Caution ! Do not clean t he print head or drive r oller using abrasive or metallic objects, ammonia-based cleaners or other harsh chemicals.

A Parallel Input Cable (Centr onics 36 pin) Serial Port Paramet ers CX400 printers are configur ed as Data T erminal Equipment (DTE) equipment, and use Reques t-T o-Send/Clear-T o-Send (R TS/CTS) handshaking or X-On /X-Off flow co ntrol (control characters are DC2 and DC4).
