Assembling 12 Inser t the battery. 3 Replace the back cover . 4 Install the battery If the device is on, press and hold [ 1 ] and select Pow er o → OK to turn it o . Remove the back cov er . 2 Be careful not to damage your ngernails when you remove the back co ver .
Assembling 13 Charge with a tra vel adapter › Plug the small end of the travel adapt er into the 1 multifunction jack. Connecting the travel adapter impr operly may cause serious damage to the device. An y damage caused by misuse is not cover ed by the warranty .
Assembling 14 When the battery is fully charged (the battery icon is 3 no longer moving), unplug the travel adapt er from the device and then from the power outlet . Do not remove the battery before r emoving the travel adapter . Doing this may cause damage to the device.
Assembling 15 Inser t a memor y card (optional) T o store additional multimedia les, you must insert a memory card. Y our device accepts microSD ™ or microSDHC ™ me mory ca rds w ith ma xim um ca pac it ies of 32 GB (depending on memory card manufacturer and type).
Assembling 16 Push the memory card in the memory card slot until it 3 locks in place. Replace the battery and the back cover . 4 Remove the memory card › Before remo ving a memory card, rst unmount it for safe removal. In Idle mode, select 1 → Settings → SD card and device storage → Unmount SD card → OK .
Assembling 17 Attach a hand str ap (optional) Remove the back cov er . 1 Slide a hand strap through the slot and hook it over 2 the small projection. Replace the back cover .

Getting started 23 Get to know the idle screen When the device is in Idle mode, you will see the idle scr ee n. F ro m the id le sc re en, y ou can v iew y our de vi ce ’ s status and access applications. The idle screen has multiple panels. Scroll left or right to a panel of the idle screen.
Getting started 24 Remove items fr om the idle screen › T ap and hold an item to remove. 1 The trash bin appears at the bottom of the idle screen. Drag the item to the trash bin.
Getting started 25 › Add or remo ve panels to the idle scr een Y ou can add or remove panels of the idle screen to organise widgets according t o your prefer ences and needs. In Idle mode, press [ 1 ] → Edit . Y ou can also place your two ngers on the screen and pinch to switch to Edit mode .
Getting started 26 Before using location services, such as map and • navigation applications, or int ernet services, ensure that the wireless connection is active.
Getting started 27 Use the task manager › Y our device is a multitasking device. It can run more than one application at the same time. How ever , multitask ing may cause hang-ups, freezing , memory problems, or additional power consumption. T o avoid these problems , end unnecessary programs using the task manager .
Getting started 28 Switch to Silen t mode › T o mute or unmute your device, do one of the follo wing: Open the notications panel from the top of the screen • and select Sound . Press and hold [ • ] and select Silent mode . Y ou ca n s et the d evi ce to al ert yo u t o var iou s ev ent s in Silent mode.
Getting started 29 › Set a screen lock Y ou can lock the touch screen with an unlock pattern or password to pr event unauthorised people from using the device without your permission. Once you set a screen lock, your device will r equire • an un loc k c od e e ach t ime y ou tur n i t o n or unl oc k the touch screen.
Getting started 30 Set an unlock password In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Settings → Location and security → Set screen lock → Passw ord . Enter a new password (alphanumeric) and select 2 Continue . Enter the password again and select 3 OK .

Entertainment 36 Entertainment Music Learn to listen to y our favourite music while on the go with the music player . The music pla yer supports the following le formats: mp3, ogg, aac , wma, ac. Some le formats are not supported depending • on the software of the device.
Entertainment 37 T o listen to music via a Bluetooth headset, press [ • ] → Via Bluetooth . Y ou cannot use this option when you connect a headset to your device. T o send a music le to others, press [ • ] → Share music via . T o add a music le to a playlist, press [ • ] → Add t o playlist .

Communication 52 C ommunication Google Mail Y ou can retrieve new email messages from Google Mail ™ to your Inbox. When you ac cess this application, the Inbox scr ee n a pp ear s. T he to tal nu mbe r of unr ea d m es sag es displays in the title bar and unread messages display in bold.
Communication 53 Organise email by labels › Y ou can organise your email by labelling your messages or adding stars to mark important messages. Y ou can sor t messages by label lter . Add a label to a message Fr om the Inbox screen, tap and hold a message.

T roubleshooting 103 T roubleshooting Y our device displays netw ork or service error messages When you are in ar eas with weak signals or poor • reception, you ma y lose reception. Move to another ar ea and try again. Y ou cannot access some options without a subscription.
T roubleshooting 104 The battery does not charge properly or the device turns o The battery terminals may be dirty. Wipe both gold- • coloured contacts with a clean, soft cloth and try charging the battery again.
T roubleshooting 105 Error messages appear when launching the FM radio The FM radio applica tion on your Samsung mobile device uses the headset cable as an antenna. Without a headset connected, the FM radio will be unable t o receive radio stations. T o use the FM radio , rst ensure that the headset is properly connected.
