Installing the SIM Card When you subscribe to a cellular netw ork, you are provided with a plug-in SIM card loaded with your subscription details, such as your PIN, available o ptional services, and many others features.
Memor y Car d Y our device supports removable microSD or microSDHC memory card s with maximu m capacities o f 32 GB (not included). Memory cards are used to store music, pho tos, videos, and other files. For more informati on, refer to “Memory Card” on page 87.
Batt er y Y our device is powered by a rechargeable, standard Li-Ion batter y . A Wall/USB Charger (Charging Head and USB cable) are included with the device for charging the battery . Warning! Use only approved charging devices. A pproved accessories are designed to maximize ba ttery life.
2. Insert the USB cable int o the device’ s Charger/ Accessory Port (2). 3. Plug the Charging He ad into a standard AC power outlet. 4. When charging is complete, unplug the Ch arging Head from the power outle t and remove the USB cable from the device.

Back View and Bottom The following items can be found on the back of your device as illustra ted. 1. 3.5mm Headset Jack : Used for headphones. 2. Camera Lens : Used when taking photos or recording videos. 3. Charger/Accessor y P ort : Plug in a USB cable for charging or to sync music and files.
2 7 1 3 5 4 6 Home Screen The Home screen is the starting point for using your device. Note: Unless stated otherwise, instructions in this user m anual start with the device unlocked, at the Home s creen.
Extended Home Screen The Home screen consists of the main Home screen pa ge, indicated by , plus addition al pages tha t extend beyond the display width to provide ad ditional s pace for adding app shortcuts and w idgets. F or mo re information, refer to “Adding and Removing Home Screen Pages” on page 20.
Adding and R emo ving Home Screen Pages Y our device comes with seven Home screen pages. Y ou can customize the Home screen by removing or adding pages.
Naviga ting Y our De vice Use command buttons and the tap screen to navigate. Command K eys Back • Ta p ( Back ) to return to the previous screen, opti on, or step. Home • Press ( Home ) to display the main Home screen page . • Press and ho ld ( Home ) : – A list of recently used a pps is displayed.
Notifications When you receive a Notificati on, a notification icon displays on the left side of the Status Bar . Notifica tions indicate th e arrival of Gmail, Email, ala rms, and more. Notification P anel The Notification Panel displa ys ongoing connections and events, as well as summaries of all curr ent Notifications.
Quick Settings Quick Settings allows you enabl e/disable common features such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, Screen rotation, and more. 1. T ap th e top of the scr een and swipe do wnward. The Notification Panel screen displays. T ap a Quick Setting butt on to enable (green) or disable (grey) a setting or fe ature.
• Hands-free mode : New notifications are rea d aloud. •S m a r t s t a y : Set the screen to stay on as long as you look at it. For more information , refer to “Smart Screen” on pa ge 146. •S y n c : Synchronizes your device with the network.
Notificati ons Icons Notifications display in the St atus Bar and, in some cases, under the Notifications heading on the Notif ications Panel to alert you to activity on the tablet such as new messa ges, applica tion downloads, software updates, and more.

Data Connection : Displays when your connection to a UTMS, HSDPA, HSP A, or HSP A+ ne twork is active. Data Connection : Displays when your connection to a 4G L TE network is active.
W idgets When you first turn on your ta blet, there are various widgets on the center Home screen. They can also appe ar on the Home screens to the left a nd right of the center Home screen. Widgets are self-contained appl ications that you can place on the Home screens to access your favorite fea tures.
Managing Folders T o re name a folder: T ap the folder , ta p the current name, and use the keyboard to enter a new name for the folder . T o add an App Shortcut to a folder: 1. Add the App Shortcut to th e Home s creen that the folder is on. 2. T ouch and hold the App Shortcut, drag it to the folder , and drop it.
Apps Scr een The Apps screen displays all applica tions installed on your device. The Apps icons are arranged in a cust omizable grid. T o arrange the Apps icons in alphabetical order: 1. From a Home screen, tap ( Apps ). 2. Ta p ( Menu ) and then tap Vie w t yp e .
Using the Multi Window This feature allo ws you to run multiple applications on the current screen at the same ti me. Multi Window Tr a y Ta b Note: Only applications found within the Multi window panel can be acti ve atop another current application on the screen.
T o deactivate Multi window: Press and hold ( Back ). This action hides the Multi window T ab from view. Note: Once you have turned the Multi window option on, you only need to press and ho ld ( Back ) to re-activate the Multi windo w feature. Tip : Y ou can also activ ate/deacti vate Multi window using Quick Settings.
T o relocate the Multi window tray: 1. Activate the Multi window feature. 2. T ap the T ab to display the Multi windo w tray . 3. T ouch and hold the Ta b , then drag it toward the ce nter of the screen to detach it (1). Then slo wly drag it to its new location on either the left or right edge of the screen (2) and release.
App #1 Split/Maximize Exit App #2 Bor der Swit ch Bar Posi ti ons Using Multi W indo w to Ru n Multiple Apps on the Same Screen Any of the apps found within the Multi window panel can be run at the same time as a current on-screen app.
T o switch the arrange ment of the applicatio ns: 1. Ta p t h e Split Bar to show the on-scr een icons. 2. Ta p ( Switch ). The two apps are s witched. T o resize a window: T ouch and hold the Split Bar , and then drag it to resize the window . T o maximize the apps: 1.
Screen Ca pture Press and hold both the ( Pow er/Lock Key ) and ( Home ) to capture and save an image of the current s creen. • A white border aroun d the screen will flash to indicate that a screen capture was created . • A copy of the screenshot is au tomatically saved to the clipboard.
T o change to a different text input method while entering text: 1. T ap the top of the s creen and swipe downward to display the Notifications Panel. 2.
Entering Upper and Lower Case Letter s The default case is lo wer case (abc). Enter upper and lower case alphabet letters by tapping the Shift key to toggle the case, befor e tapping the letter ke y(s). • T ap once to s witch from abc to Abc mode. • T a p twice to switch to ABC m ode.
Editing T ext Y ou can edit the text you enter in text fields by cutting, copying, or pasting text. These operations can be performed within and across apps. Howeve r , some apps do not support editing some or all of the text displayed while other s may offer their own way to s elect text.
– or – Enter text by typing or speaking to replace the selection with what you type. – or – Ta p t h e ( Delete ) key to delete the selected text. T o paste previously copied text: 1. T ap the text at the point you want to paste the copied text.
As you write, suggestions are offe red in the word options area in case the correct le tters were not reco gnized. Handwriting settings: 1. While entering text using the Handwriting feature, tap Handwriting tips: the top of the s c reen and swipe downward to display • For u ppercase letters, write the letter larger than the lowercase let ters.
Using Google V oice Typing Y ou can use your voice to enter text using the Google voice typing fe ature. While entering te xt us ing the Samsung keyboard: 1. T ap on the ke yboard. 2. At the Ta p t o s p e a k prompt, tap and speak clearly and distinctly into the microphone.
Section 3: Contacts an d Accounts This section explains how to manage contacts and accounts. Accounts Y our device can synchronize with a variety of accounts. With synchronization, infor mation on your device is updated with any informa tion that changes in your accounts.
Contacts 4. T a p contact fields to display the keyboard and enter informatio n: Store contact information for your frie nds, family , and colleagues to quickly acce ss information or to send a messa ge. • Some fields have preset va lues. T ap the field and tap the desired value.
1. From a Home screen, tap ( Apps ) ( Contacts ). 2. T ap a co ntact in the Contacts list to view it s information. 3. Ta p ( Edit ). 4. T ap the Contact photo, then tap Remove , Image , Pictures b y people , or T a ke picture . Updating Contacts Managing Photo IDs T o update an existing contact: T o remo ve or update a contact’s Photo ID: 1.
Contacts Display Options and Settings There are various ways to display your Contact s using tabs or settings. 1. From a Home screen, tap ( Apps ) ( Contacts ).
T a p a contact in the Contacts list to view it s inform ation. Separating Contacts 1. From a Home screen, ta p ( Apps ) ( Contacts ). 2. 3. Ta p t h e Connecti on area. – or – Ta p ( Menu ) and then tap Separa te contact. A list of Joined contacts dis plays.
Impor ting and Exporting Contacts T o back up and restore your contacts informa tion, you can export your contacts list to a storage device, such as a PC, or import your contacts list (previously exported) from a storage device. 1. Use the USB cabl e to connect your device to the storage device.
1. From a Home screen, tap ( Apps ) ( Contacts ). 2. Ta p t h e Groups tab and then tap the group to which you want to add members. 3. Ta p ( Add member ). The contacts that can be added display . 4. Ta p Select al l or the name of each contact to add.
Favo ri te s Mark contac t records with a go l d star to identify them as favorite s. Adding Fa vorites T o add a contact to your Favorites list: 1. From a Home screen, tap ( Apps ) ( Contacts ). 2. T ap a contact to display it. 3. Ta p t h e ( Star ) next to the contact name so that it tu rns gold .
Section 4: Messaging This section describes ho w to send and receive messages and other features as sociated with messaging. Types of Messages Y our tablet supports these type s of messages: • T ext.
Note: Delete any unnecessary members by tapping their name/number in the recipient area and selectin g Remove . 4. Add more recipients by tapping either the Enter recipient field or and selecting recipients. 5. Ta p t h e Enter message field and enter a messa ge.
3. From the main Messag es screen, touch and hold a message, and then select a n option: •A d d t o c o n t a c t s : Add the sender to either a new or existing Contacts entry . •V i e w c o n t a c t : View the current entry information for the sender .
• Add slide : Convert an SMS messag e into an MMS (multimedia) mes sage and which allows you to attach an existing slideshow . • Remove slide : Remove a previou sly attached slideshow . • Add subject : Enter a subject. • Add recipients : Enter additional recipie nts to the message.
Adding Additional T ext Y ou can copy text such as names, phone numbers, and events from your Contacts, Calendar , or a Memo. 1. While composing a message, tap ( Menu ) and then tap Add text . 2. Select one of the following: •M e m o : Insert text from an e xisting Memo.
Message Recipien t thread My text Recipient’ s text Message T hreads Sent and received messages are grouped into message threads. Threaded messages all ow you to see all the messages exchanged (similar to a cha t program). T o reply to a text message: 1.
T o access additional Bubble options: T ouch and hold the message bubble within an active message conve rsation to display the follow ing options: •D e l e t e : Delete the curren tly selected message bubble from the threa d. •C o p y t e x t : Copy the currently selected m essage bubble from the thread.
T o delete a single message bubble: 1. From the Messages scree n, open a message to reveal the message string. 2. T ouch and hold a message bubble, then select Delete . 3. At the prompt, tap OK to delete or Cancel to exit. T o delete multip le message bubbles: 1.
Signature Setting s • Add signa ture : Create a signa ture at the end of your outgoing text messag es. • Signature text : Enter a desired si gnature for your messa ge. T ext Message (SMS) Settings • Deliver y reports : Set the the network to in form you wheth er or not your mes sage was del ivered.
Push Message Settings • Push messages : Receive push messages from the n etwork. • Service loading : Set the type of service loading notification: Alwa ys, Prompt, or Never . Notification Settings • Notifications : See message notification s on the Status Bar .
There are thre e types of Emergency Alerts: • Alerts issued by the President • Alerts involv ing imminent threats to safe ty of life • AMBER Alerts (missing child alert) Customer s may choose no t to receive Extr eme Alerts, Sev ere Alerts, and AMBER Alerts.
Some incoming messages might not be associ ated with a phone number but rather an email address. I n these cases, the only way to block those messa ges, would be assign a key used term or phrase to ac tivate the Spam block. Ex: “Dear friend”, “Stock Alert”, or “Act No w”.
Accessing your Spam Folder Any messa ge assigned as spam is automatically placed with your Spam messa ges folder . From the Messages screen, tap ( Menu ) and then tap Spam messages . Te x t Te m p l a t e s This screen displays your a vailable text message reply templates.
3. Follow the on-screen ins tructions to set up your email account. 4. Ta p Next to go to the next screen or tap Previous to go to the Apps screen. Note: For E xchange ActiveSync acco unts, the Activate device administrator? s creen may appear . Read the information and tap Activate to continue.
Deleting Email Accounts • Composing and sendi ng : Configure the functions available during both creating and se nding emails. Options include: Quick responses, D efault image size, Delay email sending. T o delete an Email account: 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps ( Email ) .
Composing and Sending Email 1. From a Home screen, tap Apps ( Email ) . 2. If you ha ve multiple accounts set up, choose an account from the menu at the top of the scre en. 3. Ta p ( Compose ), then tap fields to enter recipients and the email text.
R efres h ing Y our Gmail Account Refresh your account to update your devic e from the Gmail servers. 1. From a Home screen, tap ( Apps ) ( Google folder) ( Gmail ) . 2. Ta p ( Menu ) and then tap Refresh . Gmail Settings Use the Gmail Settings to conf igure your Gmail preferences.

( Self - portrait ) , ( Shooting mode ) , ( Tim er ), ( Effects ) , and ( Brightness ) . These five shortcuts can be customized to fit your preference. • E di t shortcuts : Customize your setting s shortcuts. For more information, refer to “Editing Camera Sett ings Shortcuts” on page 69.

R ecor ding Videos 1. From a Home screen, tap ( Apps ) ( Camera ). 2. Slide the ( Mode ) button to ( Camcorder mode ) . 3. T o configure settings, see “Camcorder Settings” on page 71. 4. Using t he display as a view finder , compose your shot by aiming the lens at the subject.
Configuring Camcor der Settings While in Camcorder mode, tap a s ettings shortcut or tap ( Settings ) to configure the following Camcorder settings: • Edit shortcuts : Customize your settings sh ortcuts. For more information, refe r to “Editing Camera Settings Shortcuts” on page 69.
Galler y Use Gallery to view, capture, and manage photos and videos. Note: Photos and videos are stor ed on the device in the /storage/emulated/0/DCIM/Ca mera folder . Photos are stored as jpg files and videos are stored as mp4 fil es. For more informatio n, refer to “My Files” on page 118.
Viewing Groups of Photos and Videos 1. From a Home screen, tap ( Apps ) ( Gallery ) . 2. T ap a categor y and then a group to view it. 3. Ta p ( Camera ) to launch the Camera app.
8. T o delete the photo or vi deo being displa yed, ta p ( Delete ) . 9. T o launch the Camera a pp, tap ( Camera ) . 10. Ta p ( Menu ) to display the followin g options for photos and videos (options vary according to item being viewed): •E d i t : Edit the photo using Pho t o Editor (available for download from Samsung (Apps)).
Setting a Picture As Y ou can use the photos you take as a contact’s photo or as wallpaper for the Home or Lock screen: 1. From a Home screen, tap ( Apps ) ( Gallery ) . 2. T ap a categor y and then a group to view it, and then tap a photo to select it.
Full-screen in ratio view. The video is enlarged as much as possible without becoming distorted. Full-screen view. The en tire screen is us ed, which may cause some minor distor tion. Original size view. The video will be played in its original size. Play a video as a small pop-up while viewing another screen.
Section 6: Connections This sect ion describes the vari ous connections your device can make, including accessing the Internet with your Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Connecting to your PC. Wi -F i Wi-Fi is a wireless networking technolog y that provides access to local area networks.
When you turn on Wi-Fi, your device searches for available Wi-Fi connections, then d isplays them on screen. F rom a Home screen, tap ( Apps ) ( Settings ) . • Network SSID : Enter the name of the Wi-Fi Wireless Access Point (WAP). 1. From a Home screen, tap ( Apps ) ( Settings ) .
Configuring Wi-Fi Settings Set up and configure ad vanced Wi-Fi settings. 1. From a Home screen, tap ( Apps ) ( Settings ) . 2. Under Wireless and networks , tap to turn Wi-Fi ON , and then tap ( Wi-Fi ). 3. Ta p ( Menu ) for options: • Advanced : – Network notification : Have your device alert you to new Wireless Ac cess Points (W APs).
Sharing Information with a Connected De vice T o share videos, photos, or other information with a connected device, follow these steps: 1. View the information that you want to shar e, and then tap the Share, Share via, or Send via option. For example, if you want to share a photo, view the photo in Gallery and tap ( Share via ) .
Bluetooth Bluetooth is a short-range wireless communications technology for exchanging in fo rmation over a dista nce of about 30 feet. Y ou do not need to line up the devices to send information with Bluetooth. If the devices are in range, you can exchange information be tween th em, even if they are in different rooms.
Options for paired devices: T ap next to the de vice in the P aired devices list. • Ta p Rename to change the name d of the paired device. • Ta p Unpair to unpair from the paire d device. Sharing Data with a Bluetooth De vice T o share videos, photos, or other information with a connected device, follow these steps: 1.
Note: Y ou can view a histor y of files received via Bluetooth. From a Home screen, tap ( Apps ) ( Settings ). Under Wireless and networks , tap ( Bluetooth ) , tap ( Menu ) and then tap Received files . Bluetooth Settings 1. From a Home screen, tap ( Apps ) ( Settings ) .
Uninstalling an A pp Many a pps come pre-installed on you r device, and you can download additional apps fr om Google Play Store. If you decide to, you can uninstall a pps you have downloaded from Google Play Store and other sources. Note: Y ou cannot uninstall the apps that are inc luded with Android.
Synchronizing with Windows Media Player Ensure that Windo ws Media Player is installed on your PC. 1. Att ach your dev ice to the com puter with th e USB cable . Y our computer recognizes the connection an d displays the Auto Play screen. 2. Click the option to Sync digital media files to this device to synchronize music files.
Kies via W i-Fi Samsung Kies is a software that enables you t o update your device firmware, synchronize files, and transfer data to and from your device directly by connecting to th e PC. T o learn mo re about Samsung Kies and download the Kies software (for both PC and Macintosh), visit: samsung.
Unmounting an SD Card 1. From a Home screen, tap ( Apps ) ( Settings ) Storage . 2. Ta p Unmount SD card . 3. At the prompt, se lect OK to safely unmount the memory card. 4. Remove the SD card from the slot. Important! Unmounting an SD card will st op some a pplications from function ing.
USB T ethering This feature allow s you to share your device’ s mobile data connection via a direct USB connecti on between your device and a single computer . Note: Y ou can not mount your device’ s microSD card to your computer while using the USB tethering feature.
Mobile HotSpot This feature allows you to share your device’ s mobile data connection, providing wireless Internet conne c tivit y to multiple devices. Important! The Mobile HotSpot service canno t be active when the device is connected to Wi-Fi. Please disconnect your Wi-Fi connection prior to activating this ser vice.
Note: By default, the connection is not secured. Note: Using your Mobile HotSp ot dr ains your device’ s batter y much faster . The be st way to ke ep using the device as a HotSpot is by connecting t o a Charger . T o connect t o the HotSpot: 1. Enable Wi-Fi (wireless) func tionality on your target device (laptop, media device, etc.
T o manage connected devices: This feature allows you to provide MAC filtering on your device. This is similar to a “VIP list ” where only devices on the list are allow ed access. 1. From a Home screen, tap ( Apps ) ( Mobile HotSpot ) . 2. Ta p Mobile HotSpot Allowed de vices .
Section 7: Application s This section cont ains a description of each application that is available on the ( Apps ) screen, its f unction, and how to navigate through that particular application. If the application is already describe d in anothe r section of this user manual, then a cross reference to that part icular section is provided.

Shutting Down a Cur rentl y Activ e Application Press and hold ( Home ), and then tap ( End all ) – or – 1. P ress and hold ( Home ), and then ta p ( Ta s k m a n a g e r ). 2. Fr om th e Active a pplications tab, tap End to close selected a pp lications.
