Getting Started 6 T ext Conv entions This manual provides condensed informa tion about how to use your device. T o mak e this possible, the following text conventions are used to represent often-used s teps: Batt er y Y our device is powered by a rechargeable, standard Li-Ion batter y .
7 1. Insert the USB cable in to the Charging Head. 2. Insert the USB cable int o the device’ s C harger/ Accessory Port. War ni ng ! While the device is charging, if the touch scr een does not function due t o an unstable power supply , unplug the USB power adapter from t he po wer out let or unplug the USB cable from the device.
Getting Started 8 Memor y Car d Y our device supports removable microSD or microSDHC memory cards with ma ximum capacities of 64 GB (depending on the memory ca rd manufacturer and type). Memory cards are used to s tore music, photos, videos, and other files.
9 R emo ving a Memor y Car d Important! T o prevent dama ge to information stored on the memory card, unmount the card before removing it from the device. 1. From a Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Settings ➔ Storage . 2. Under SD card , touch Unmount SD card and then touch OK .

13 Locking and Un locking the De vice 1. Press the Power/Lock Key once to display the Lock screen. The Lock screen displays. 2. Swipe your finger across the screen in any di rection to unlock it. The last screen accessed displays. 3. Press the Power/Lock Key again to lock the screen.

17 Section 3: Kids Mode This section introduces you to the Kids mode tablet and all it’ s functions. Getting Star ted in Kids Mode Kids Mode Home Screen The Kids Mode Home screen is the startin g point for using the device in Kids mode.
Kids Mode 18 Naviga ting the Device Use command buttons and the touch screen to navigate. Command Buttons Back T ouch Back to return to the previous screen or option. Home T ouch Home to display the Kids Mode Home screen. Menu The menu key is not active in Kids Mode.

27 Kids Mode Settings This section explains Settings for c ustomizing your device. Accessing Kids Mode Settings T o access Settings: From the Kids Mode Home screen, touch Menu ➔ Settings . The Settings Screen The Sett ings screen dis plays the Quic k settings me nu, as well as the brightness, Lock s creen, Home screen, and Edit cards options.

Kids Mode 30 Inser ting Frames Y ou can change the frames that surround the Cards displayed on the Kids mode Home screen. 1. Navigate to the Kids Mode Home screen. 2. T ouch Menu ➔ Settings . 3. T ouch Home screen then touch the Frames tab. 4. T ouch a frame to vi ew a sample of what the cards look like using this frame selection.

33 Time mana g er Use the Time manager to s et limits on the amount of time your child uses the tablet. Y o u can set limits in ten minute increments, set a time period for us e, or select No time limit for unlimited use. 1. From the Kids Mode Home screen, touch Menu ➔ Paren tal controls .
Kids Mode 34 Application manager The Application manager controls the apps that display on the Apps screen. When you first access this screen, the a pps that display a red check mark in the upper -right cor ner of the app are enabled and display on the Apps screen.

37 Customizing the Home Screens T o customize the Home scr een s to suit your preferences: 1. Navigate to one of the Home screen panels. 2. T ouch and hold on the screen until the Home screen pop-up displays. 3. T ouch Set wallpaper to change the Home screen wallpaper .

Standard Mode 42 Notifications display in th e System Bar and, in some cases, under the Notifications heading in the Quick Settin gs to alert you to activity on the tablet such as new messa ges, applica tion downloads, softwa re updates, and more. The following tabl e lists those icons.

Standard Mode 44 Primar y Shor tcuts Primary Shor tcuts display at the bottom of the Home screens. Tip : The main Home screen is usually the center Home screen.
45 W idgets When you first turn on your ta blet, there are various widgets on the center Home screen. They can also appe ar on the Home screens to the left a nd right of the center Home screen. Widgets are self-contained appl ications that you can place on the Home screens to access your favorite fea tures.
Standard Mode 46 App Shor tcuts Use App Shortcut s for quick access to applications or features. 1. Navigate to the Home s creen on which you want to place the App Shortcut. 2. T ouch Apps . – or – T ouch and hold on th e screen until the Home screen options pop-up displays and then touch Apps and widgets .
47 Fo ld e r s Place Folders on a Home screen to organize items together . Adding Folders T o crea te a folder on a Home page: 1. Navigate to the desir ed Home screen. 2. T ouch and hold on the screen until the Home screen pop-up displays and then touch Folder .
Standard Mode 48 Wallpapers Y ou can choose a picture to display on the Home Screen, Lock screen, or on both the Home and Lock screens. Choose from preloaded wallpa per images or select a photo yo u have downloaded or taken with the Camera . 1. From a Home screen, touch and hold on the screen.
49 Apps Scr een The Apps screen displays all appli cations installed on your wireless device. Appl ications that you download and install from Google Play or from the web ar e also added to a Home screen. The Apps icons are arranged in a customizable grid.
Standard Mode 50 Application Inf or mation T o view informa tion about an App, such as the amount of storage it uses, force the App to stop, uninstall updates, and clear data: 1. From a Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Setting s ➔ Application manager . 2.

Standard Mode 52 Entering Upper and Lo wer Case Letter s The default case is low er case (abc). Enter upper and lower case alpha bet letters by touchi ng the Shift key to toggle the case, before touching the letter key(s). • T ouch once to sw itch from abc to Abc mode.
53 Editing T ext Y ou can edit the text yo u enter in text fields by cut ting, copying, or pasting text. These operations can b e performed within and across apps. Ho wever , some apps do not support editing some or all of the text displa yed wh ile others may offer their ow n way to select text.
Standard Mode 54 Pasting T ext T o paste previously copied text: 1. T ouch the text a t the point you want to paste the copied text. The Cursor displays at the point you touched. 2. T ouch the Cursor . A pop-up displays. 3. T ouch Pas te in the pop-up.
55 T ask Mana ger Y our device can run appli cat ions simultaneously and some applications run in the background. Use T a sk Manager to see which a pplications are r unning on your device and to end running applications t o extend batter y life.
Standard Mode 56 Contacts and Accounts This section explains how to manage contacts and accounts. Accounts Y our device can synchronize with a variety of accounts. With synchronization, in formation on your device is updated with any informa tion that changes in your accounts.

Standard Mode 60 Sharing Contact Information Y ou can send a contact’ s information by way of Bluetooth to other Bluetooth devices or in Gmai l as an attachment. Note: Not all Bluetooth de vices a ccept contacts and n ot all devices support transfers of multiple contacts.
61 Groups Assign contacts to Groups to make searching for contacts faster or to quickly send messages to group members. Creating a New Group Create a new group when yo u add or edit a contact. 1. T ouch Contacts . 2. T ouch Groups above the Contacts List.

Standard Mode 66 Hangouts Hangouts is Google’ s instant messaging and audio and video chat service. Y ou can use it to communicate, in real time, with other people who also use Hangouts on another Android tablet or phone or on a computer . Tip : Hangouts requires that you have a Google account.
67 Inter net and Social Netw or king This sect ion describes th e various In ternet and soci al networking applica tions available on your device such as Google and Voice Search, Go ogle+, Maps, Go ogle Play Books, Play Magazi nes, and Y ouT ube.

Standard Mode 70 Play Magazi nes Google Play Magazines helps yo u subscribe to your favorite magazines so you can have them available to read on your tablet at your leisure. Play Magazines requires that you log on to your Google account. For more inform ation, refer to “Accounts” on page 142.
71 Music This section explains how to us e the music features of your device including the Music app, the Music Player , and the Music Hub. Listening to Music Y ou can listen to music by using your device’ s built-in speakers, through a wired head set, or through a wireless Bluetooth stereo headset.

85 Using the Image View er After taking a photo or recording a video, use the Image Viewer to view or play , share, delete, or edit your photos and videos. 1. T ouch Image V iewer to view the photo and videos. 2. T ouch the screen to show or hide Image Viewer options.

T ouch the icon ( , , or ) in the lower left corner of the display screen while the video is playing to change the Display Mode from original size to fu ll screen in ratio or ful l screen.
87 Video Player Use Video Player to view and manage videos stored on your tablet. 1. From a Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Vid eo P la ye r . 2. T ouch the Thumbnails , List , or Folders tab. 3. T ouch Search and use the keyboard to enter a search term. The current fo lder is searched and results are displayed.

Standard Mode 92 Playing Videos 1. To u c h Gallery . 2. T ouch a categor y and t hen a group to view it, and then touch a video thumbnail to p lay the video. Note: Videos are marked with a Play button. 3. T ouch Pau se to pause the video. 4. T o resume playing the video, touch Resume .
