Getting star ted 11 Removing the S P en When you r emove the S P en from the slot, the device launches Action memo or displays the air command f eatures depending on the S P en detachment option setting. T o change the setting , open the All apps screen and tap Settings → S P en → Detachment options .
Getting star ted 12 2 Inser t a new nib into the S P en . Be careful not to pinch y our fingers with the t weezers . • Do not reuse old nibs. Doing so ma y cause the S P en to malfunc tion. • Do not press the nib ex cessively when inser ting the nib into the S P en .

Getting star ted 14 2 Inser t the SIM or USIM card with the gold- colour ed contac ts facing down wards. • Do not inser t a memor y card into the SIM car d slot. I f a memor y card happens t o be lodged in the SIM card slot, take the devic e to a Samsung Ser vice Centr e to remov e the memor y card.
Getting star ted 15 4 Replace the back cov er . Removing the SIM or USIM car d and battery 1 Remove the back c over . 2 Pull out the ba tter y . 3 Pr ess the SIM or USIM card with your finger , and then pull it out.
Getting star ted 16 Char ging the ba tter y Using the ba tter y charger Charge the batt er y befor e using it for the first time or bef ore using it after it has been unused for an extended period. Use only Samsung-appro ved chargers , batteries, and cables.
Getting star ted 17 After fully charging , disconnect the device from the charger . F irst unplug the charger from the device , and then unplug it from the electric socket. Do not remov e the batter y before r emoving the charger . This may damage the device .
Getting star ted 18 F ast charging The device has a built -in fast charging f eature. Y ou can use this feature t o charge the battery more quickly while the device or its screen is turned off . About F ast charging • F ast charg ing uses battery charging technology that charges the ba tter y faster by increasing the char ging pow er .
Getting star ted 19 U sing a memor y card Installing a memor y card Y our device accepts memory cards with maximum capacities of 128 GB. Depending on the memor y card manufacturer and type, some memory cards may not be compatible with y our device . • Some memor y cards may not be fully compa tible with the device .
Getting star ted 20 Removing the memor y card Befor e removing the memory card, first unmount it f or safe remo val. On the Home screen, tap Apps → Settings → Stor age → Unmount SD card . 1 Remove the back c over . 2 Pull out the memory card. 3 Replace the back cov er .
Getting star ted 21 T urning the devic e on and off Pr ess and hold the Po wer key f or a few sec onds to turn on the device . When you turn on y our device f or the first time or after per forming a data reset, f ollow the on- screen instructions to set up your devic e.
22 Basics U sing the touchscr een • Do not allow the touchscr een to come int o contact with other electr ical devices . Electrostatic discharges can cause the touchscr een to malfunc tion. • T o avoid damaging the t ouchscreen, do not tap it with an ything sharp or apply ex cessive pr essure to it with your fingertips.
Basics 23 T apping and holding T ap and hold an item or the screen f or more than 2 seconds to ac cess available options . Dragging T o move an item, tap and hold it and drag it t o the target position. Double -tapping Double -tap on a webpage or image to zoom in.
Basics 24 Swiping Swipe to the left or right on the Home screen or the All apps scr een to view other panels. Swipe upw ards or down wards to scr oll through a w ebpage or a list of items, such as c ontacts. Spreading and pinching Spread two fingers apart on a webpage, map , or image to zoom in a part.
Basics 25 Home screen la y out Home screen The Home screen is the starting point for acc essing all of the device’ s fea tures . It displays widgets, shortcuts to apps, and mor e. Widgets are small apps that launch specific app functions to provide inf or mation and con venient access on y our Home screen.
Basics 26 Home screen options On the Home screen, tap and hold an empty area, or pinch y our fingers together to ac cess the available options . Customise the Home screen b y adding, deleting , or rearranging Home screen panels . Y ou can also set the Home screen wallpaper , add widgets to the Home screen, and more .
Basics 27 All apps scr een The All apps scr een displays ic ons for all apps , including newly installed apps. On the Home screen, tap Apps to open the All apps scr een. T o view other panels, swipe to the left or right, or selec t a screen indicat or at the bottom of the screen.

Basics 36 P ow er saving f eature P ow er saving mode Save the ba tter y pow er by limiting the device ’ s func tions. On the All apps screen, tap Settings → P ower saving → P ower saving mode , and then tap the P ower saving mode switch to activate it.
Basics 37 3 Read the on-screen inf ormation about the mode and tap ENABLE . T o deac tivate ultr a power sa ving mode, tap → Disable ultra pow er saving mode → DISABLE . The estimated maximum standb y time shows the time remaining bef ore the batt er y power runs out if the devic e is not used.

S P en features 46 Changing the pen settings When writing or drawing on the scr een, tap once more to change the pen type, line thickness, or pen colour . Open the preset pen profiles list . Save the curr ent setting as a pen profile . Change the line thickness.
S P en features 47 Editing handwritten not es Edit handwritten notes using various editing options , such as cutting, moving , resizing , or transf orming. 1 When there is handwriting or a dra wing on the note, tap . 2 T ap or draw a line ar ound the input to selec t and edit it.

S P en features 49 3 When the border ar ound the subjec t turns blue, tap to take a photo . The device aut omatically applies the Photo not e effect to the photo and inserts it into S Note .
S P en features 50 Editing Photo not es Edit sections inser ted into S Note . 1 T ap and hold a section and tap Con vert to edit . The text image on the section will be vectorised and transformed into c oloured lines f or you to edit . 2 T ap and dra w a line around the section you want t o edit.

Motions & usability features 57 T urning device o ver T urn the device ov er to mute incoming calls or alarms. If this feature is not activat ed, open the All apps scr een, tap Settings → Motions and gestures → Mute/P ause , and then tap the Mute/P ause switch to activate it.

P ersonalising 69 P attern Draw a patt er n by connecting four dots or mor e, and then draw the patt er n again to v erify it. Set a backup PIN to unlock the screen when you f orget the pattern. PIN A PIN consists of numbers only . Enter a t least four numbers , and then enter the password again to verify it.
P ersonalising 70 Adding a My Plac es widget T o add the widget, tap and hold an empty area on the Home screen, tap W idgets , tap and hold the My Places widget, and then drag it to the Home scr een. Select a categor y to set location information and pr efer ences.
