10 Section 1 Activating Y our Phone When you subscribe to a cellular network, you are provide d with a plug-in SIM card loaded with your subscription details, su ch as your PIN, any optional services available, and many others.
Section 1: Getting Started 11 Activating Y our Phone Section 1 Note: When you need to remove the SIM ca rd, slide it, as show n, and take it out of the socket. 4. Place the battery so tha t the tabs on the end alig n with the slots at the bottom o f the phone.
12 Section 1 5. Press the battery down until it c licks into pl ace. Make sure that the battery is prop erly installed befo re switching on the phon e. Charging a Batter y Y our phone is powered by a r echar geable Li-ion battery . A travel adapter comes with yo ur phone for charging the battery .

When charging i s finished, unplug th e adapter from th e power outl et and disconnect it from the phone by pressing the b uttons on both sides of the connector a nd pulling the connector out.

24 Section 3 Making a Call When the idle screen displays, enter the ar ea cod e and phone number , and press the key . Note: When you activate the Auto redial option in the Extra settings menu, the phone will automat ically redia l up to 10 times when the person does not answer the call or is already on the phone.

26 Section 3 Once you have stored a number in the Addr ess Book, you can dial it by pressing a few keys. Y ou can also assign you r most frequently-used numbers to number keys using th e Speed Dial featur e. For further details about th e Phone book featur e , see "Finding an Addr ess Book Ent ry" on page 71.
Section 3: Call Functions 27 Call Log Section 3 Note: T o reject an incoming call, press and hold the V olume keys on the left side of the phone before opening the phone, or press the Reject soft key or key . 2. End the call by closing the p hone or pressing th e key .

Press the key to perfor m the option’ s function. Viewing Calls Made Y our phone retains information about the last 20 outgoing calls and stor es them in the Calls M ade log.

Section 3: Call Functions 31 Recent Calls Section 3 Call Time Call T ime allows you to view the duration of your Last Call, T otal Made, and T ota l Received duri ng the life cycle of your phone. Call T ime is not for billing purposes. 1. In Idle mode, press t he Menu soft key to access Menu mode.
32 Section 3 Silent Mode Silent mode is convenient when you wish to stop the phone fr om making noise, in a theater for example. In Idle mode, press and hold the key until the “Silent Mode Activated” message and the Mute icon () display .

58 Section 5 Changing the T ext Entry Mode When using your ph one, you wi ll often need to enter text, such as when storing a na me in the Addr ess Book, creating your person al greetin g or sche duling events on your calendar . Y ou can enter alphanumeric characters by using your phone’s keypad.

Changing the T ext Input Mode When you are in a field that allows characters to be entered, you will notice the text input mode indicator on the display .

Enter your Logo n ID (this field title will change reflec t the name used in each instant message application) and your Password and press Options soft key and select Sign On and press the Select soft key .
84 Section 7 Messaging Service (EMS ), which enables you to include simple pictur es, melodies, and animated images in your messages. T o use this feature, you mu st subscribe to your service provider ’ s message serv ice. When the Message icon ( ) a ppears, you have r eceived new text messages.
Section 7: Messaging 85 T ext Messages Section 7 • Add Media: allows you to add a picture, melody , or animation to your message. Select the category of the item to be added. In each category , you can select from the various factory-set items or choose an item received from other sources, such as the Internet or other phones.

Section 7: Messaging 87 T ext Messages Section 7 • Extract Addre ss: allows you to e xtract the sender’ s number and URL, e-mail addresses or phon e numbers from the message text, so that you can save them in your phone’ s memor y. Outbox This message box is used to stor e messag es that you have sent or will send.
88 Section 7 • Send: allows you to send the text message. • Move to SIM: all ows you to move the message from the phone’ s memory to the SIM card. This option is only a vailable for messages stored in the SIM card. Delete All This menu allo ws you to delete al l of the text messages in each message box.
Section 7: Messaging 89 Multimedia Message Section 7 Creating and Sending a Multimedia Message 1. In Idle mode, press t he Menu soft key to access Menu mode. 2. Select Messaging . Highlight M ultimedia Message and press the Select soft key or the key .
90 Section 7 • Send: allows you to send message to specified number . • Add Page: allows you to add an additional page(s). • P age Timing: page timing allo ws you to set how long each pa ge of the Picture Messaging mes sage is displayed. The de fault time is 5 seconds, maximum 99 seconds.
Section 7: Messaging 91 Multimedia Message Section 7 Retrieving an MMS Message When you receive a new MMS message, the display shows the MMS Message icon ( ) and a notifying text message. 1. Press the Vie w soft key or the key to view the sender’ s phone number .
92 Section 7 • Replay: allows you to replay the message from the begi nning. • Send: allows you to send/res end the message. • Properties: shows you information about the message, such as the time and date, to (recipient number), size, priority , and cla ss .
Section 7: Messaging 93 Multimedia Message Section 7 Options for SMS Messages • Reply: allows you to reply to the message received • Forward: allows you to for ward the message to another destination. • Delete: deletes the currently selected message.
94 Section 7 • Properties: shows you information about the message. Browser Message This menu allows you to receive web messages fr om the server , or to set the phone not to receive W eb messages. The following options ar e available: • Inbox: allows you to read the messages received from the web server .
Section 7: Messaging 95 Broadcast Messages (SIM Dependent) Section 7 Broadcast Messages (SIM Dependent) This network service allows you to r eceive text messages on various topics, such as th e weather or traffic. Cell Broadcast (CB) messages display as soon as they ar e received, pr ovided that: • the phone is in Idle mode.
96 Section 7 • Validity P eriod (SIM dependent): allows you to set the length of time your text messages are stored at the message center while attempts are made to deliver them. • Message T ype (SIM dependent): allows you to v iew the type of messa ge sen t.
Section 7: Messaging 97 Checking Memory Status Section 7 Receive Settings • Msg. Reception: you can set your ph one to automatically receive or reject incoming messages. • Anonymous Reject: you can set your phone to automatically reject or receive anonymous messages.
