Your p hone 12 Ends a call. When pr essed and held, switches the phone on or off. In menu mode, cancels your input and returns to idle m ode. When pr essed and held in idle mode, quickly accesses yo ur voice mail server . Enter n umbers, letters, and some special characters.
You r phon e 13 Displ ays Main display The ma in display has three areas : Area Descripti on First line Displays v arious icons. See page 14. Middle Displays m e ssages, instructions , and any information that you enter , such as a num ber to be dia lled.
Your p hone 14 Icons Icon Des cripti on Shows the receiv ed signal strength. The more ba rs, the stronger the signal. Appears when a call is in progress. When your SIM card s upport s ALS (Alter nate Line Service), this icon may appear with the number 1, 2, or both.
You r phon e 15 Appears when y ou set the alarm(s) to ring at a specified tim e. Appears when the call diverting feature is activated.W hen your SIM card supports ALS (Alternate Line Service), this icon may appear w i th the number 1, 2, or both. Fo r example , , or .
Your p hone 16 Back li ght o n mode The displays and the keypad are illuminated by a backlight. When y ou press any ke y or open the folder , the backlight il luminates. It turns off if no key is pre ssed wi thin a give n peri od o f time, dependi ng o n the Backlight option settings.
You r phon e 17 When you press and hold either of the vo lume k eys with the folder closed, the external display will illuminate. When the ear-microphone is connected, you can also use its bu tton to turn on the external display . Built-in antenna Y our phone has a built-in antenna.
18 Getting started Inserting/Remo ving the SIM card When y ou subscribe to a cellular network, you are provided w ith a SIM card loaded with your subscription details, such as your PIN, any optional services av ailable, and so on. • K eep all S IM cards out of the reach o f small children.

Getting starte d 24 Selecting functions and options Y our phone offers a s et of functions that allows you to customise y our phone. These functions are arranged in menus and sub-m enus, accessed vi a the two soft keys marked and . Each menu and sub-menu allows you to view and alter the settings of a particular function.

Viewing missed calls If you have a subscription that includes Caller Line Identification (CLI) and you are unable to answer a call, you can find out who was calling you so that you can call the person back.
Call functions 29 Speed-dialling from Phon ebook Once you have stored numbers in Phoneb ook, you can dial a number simply by pressing one or two keys. F or further details, see pa ge 62. Ending a call When y ou want to finish your call, briefly press the key or close the folder .
Call functions 30 Adjusting the volume During a call, if you wish to adjust the earpiece volume, use t he vol ume keys on th e l eft s ide of the phon e. Press the key to increase the volum e l evel and the key to decreas e i t. In idle mode with the folder open , you can adjust the ke y tone v olume using the and ke ys.
Call functions 31 Accessing options during a call Y our phone prov ides a number of contro l functions that you can use during a call . Switching the microphone off (M ut e) Y ou can temp orarily switch y our phone’s microphone off so that the person with whom y ou are speaking cannot hear you.
Call functions 32 1. Press the Options soft key . 2. If necessary , press the Up or Dow n key to high ligh t the Phoneboo k option. P ress the Select soft key . 3. Select the Find name option and press the Select soft key . The Phoneboo k entries are listed.
Call functions 33 Sending DTMF tones Y ou can send the DTMF(Dual T one Multi-Frequency) tones of the number on the d isplay during a call. This option is helpful for entering a password or account number when you call an automated system, like a b anking service.
Call functions 34 Us ing the SI M-A T (S IM Ap plica tion Toolkit) If you use a SA T card that provides additional services, the S AT m enu displays. F o r further details, see your SIM card instructio ns. Putting a call on hold Y ou can place a cal l on hold whenever you want.
Call functions 35 2. Make the second call i n the normal w ay . T o switch betw een the two calls, simply press the Swap soft key . The current call is placed on hold and the call on hold is reactivated so that you can conti nue conv ersing with the other person.
Call functions 36 Tran sferri ng a call Y ou can transfer the current call to the call on hold if this service is supported by the network, so that the callers can talk to each other . Y ou are disconnected from b oth of them. 1. During a call, answer or make a call i n the normal wa y , and press the Opti ons soft key .
Call functions 37 Geting a secon d call du ring a multi-pa rty call T o make a call when you are on a multi-party call: See ‘Making a second call’ on page 34. T o answer a call when y ou have th e multi-party call: 1. Press the key to answer the incoming call.

Entering text 40 Changing the text input mode When y ou are in a field that allows characters to be entered , you will see the tex t input mod e indicator at the bott om of the disp l ay . Example : Entering a name in Phonebook Y ou can change between Chinese and Engli sh input methods or to numbers and sym b ols input.
Entering text 41 4. The selected text input m ode indicator appears at the botto m of the display . Usin g Ch ine se Piny in m ode Pinyin is a system writing Chinese words using the English alphabet. This system is based on the pronunciation of the Chinese word.
Entering text 42 2. If there are more th an one Pinyin spelling corresponding to your key strok e s, press the Left or Right key to select the spelling you w ant. 3. If yo u cannot find the characte r you want from those displayed , press the Up o r Down key to scroll through choices in the character selection map.

51 Using t he menus The phone offers a range of functi ons that allows you to tailor th e phone to you r needs. These functions are arranged in menus and sub-menus. Accessing a menu function The menus and sub-menus can be accessed by pressing the Menu or Phoneb ook soft key in idle mode , then scrolling with the na vigation k eys.

Phonebook menu 60 Editing SIM mem or y entries T o change SIM mem o ry entry information, press the Options soft key . The fo llowi ng opt ions are avail able : Edit number This option allows you to change the number . Y ou can also add a new number if none has bee n stored for the selected entry .
Phonebook menu 61 Add entry (Pho nebook 1. 2) Y ou can store phone numbers and the corresponding nam es in the memory of yo ur SIM card. In addition, you can store up to 1000 names in the phone’s m emory , and each name can be associated with up to five numbers.

Messages 88 Delete : delete this messa ge. Delete all : delete all m essage on the list. Recei ve : allows yo u to turn the reception of broadcast messages on o r off . Channel : a check mark inside the All check box indicates th at the channel is enabled.
Mess ag es 89 Message type : allows you to set th e type of messages y ou want to receiv e, either Tex t , Fax , Voice , ERMES , X400 , or E-Ma il . The net work can conv ert the messages into the selec ted format.
Messages 90 Delivery report : wh en this option is set to On , the network informs you whether o r not your message has b een del iver ed. Re ad r e p l y : when this op tion is set to On , a recipient’s pho ne sends a m essage to inform you o f when your messag e was opened.

Messages 92 Short mess age (Menu 1. 7.1) Y ou can check how many messages are stored on the SIM card and phone’ s memory . When y ou have finished, press the soft key or the key to e xit. Multimedia message (Men u 1. 7. 2) Multimedia messag e boxes and Media box share a given amount of memory in your phone.
93 Call rec ords Via this menu, you can view the: • calls you have missed, rece ived, or dialled. • cost of your calls. • length of your calls. Note : Y ou can access the phone numbers that are in the three t ypes of cal l records by pressing the key i n idl e mode.
Call records 94 By pressing the Opti ons soft key , you can also: • delete the current call record fro m the list. • delete all of the calls. • paste the n umbe r into Ph onebook . Dialled calls (Menu 2. 3) This option lets you view the last 20 dialled numbers.
Call records 95 Call time (Menu 2 .5) This option lets you view the timers for calls made and receiv ed. Notes: • If your SIM card s upports ALS (Alt ernate Line Service) , you must f irst select the approp riate line.
Call records 96 Call costs (Menu 2.6) This feature lets you view the cost of calls. Notes : • Shown only if it is supported by your SIM card. • This feature is not intended to be used for billing purpo ses. • AOC (Advice Of Charge) information may display in idle mod e, de pendin g on y our SIM card or se rvice provi der .
97 Sound setting s Y ou can use the Sound sett ings feature to customise v arious settings, such as the: • ring tone, volume, and type fo r incoming calls or messages. • sounds made when yo ur call i s connected or when you press a key . • quiet mode to which your phone switches whe n you hold down the key .
Sound set tings 98 Alert type : lets you specify how you are informed of incoming calls. Melo dy : the p hone p lays the melody selecte d via the Melody option. S ee above . Vibra tion : th e pho ne vib rates , b ut do es not rin g. Vibra tion t hen melody : the phone first vibr ates and then plays the melody selecte d via the Melody opti on.
Sound set tings 99 Power on/off (Menu 3. 3) This option allow s you to select th e melody th at the phone sound s when y ou switch it on or off . Y ou can choose eith er Basic or Cheerful . If you don’t want the phone to play any sound at all when turning on or off , select Off .
