6 Section 1 Activating Y our Phone When you subscribe to a cellular network, you are provide d with a plug-in SIM card loaded with your subscription details, su ch as your PIN, any optional services available, and many others.
Section 1: Getting Started 7 Activating Y our Phone Section 1 3. Slide the SIM card into the SI M card socket so that the card locks into place. Make sure the gold contacts of th e card face into the phone. Note: When you need to r emove the SIM card, slide it as shown, and take it out of the socket.
8 Section 1 4. Place the battery so that the tabs on th e end align with the slots at th e bottom of the p hone (1). 5. Press the battery down until it cl icks into place (2). Make sure that the battery is prop erly installed befo re switching on the phone.

Low Battery Indicator When the battery is weak and only a few minutes of talk time remain, a warning tone sounds and the “Battery low” message repeats at r egular intervals on the display .

Backlight A backlight illu minates th e display and the keypad. When you press any key or slide the phone open, the backlight comes on.

Press the key to increase the volume lev el and the key to decrease the level. In Idle mode, you can also adjust the ring volum e using these keys while the phone is open.

If the Anykey answer option in the Extra Settings menu is activated, you can press any key to answer a ca ll except for the key and the Reject soft key .
26 Section 3 All calls This menu lets you view the 90 most recent calls you receiv ed, sent, and missed. The number or name, i f already stored in your Phonebook, displays with th e number of occurr ences of each number .

Press the Options soft key for the following options: • Details : displays de tails of th e number includin g name, number , and da tes and times of calls.
28 Section 3 Delete all This menu allows you to delete all of the records in each call recor d separately , or you can delete all of your call recor ds at one time. 1. Highlight the type of call s you want to delete and press the Select soft key or the key to make a check mark.
Section 3: Call Functions 29 Silent mode Section 3 Note: The password is preset to “00000000” at the factor y . T o change this password, see "Cha nge password" on pa ge 108. Silent mode Silent mode is convenient when you wish to stop the phone fr om making noise, in a theater for example.

Section 3: Call Functions 31 Selecting Functions and Options Section 3 Options During a Call Y our phone provides a number of control functions that you can use durin g a call. Putting a Call on Hold Y ou can place the current call on hold whenever you want.
32 Section 3 When you want to finish, end each call normally by pres sing the key . Switching off the Microphone (Mute) Y ou can temporarily switch your phone’s microphone off, so that the other person cannot hear you. Example: Y ou wish to say something to a person in the r oom but do not want the person on the phone to hear you.

46 Section 5 Changing the T ext Input Mode When using your ph one, you wi ll often need to enter text, such as when storing a name in your Phonebook, creating your personal greeting or scheduling events on your calendar . Y ou can enter alphan umeri c characters by using your phone’s keypad.

54 Section 6 Storing a Number in the Phone’ s Memor y The default for saving phon e numbers to your phonebook is your phone’s memory . Y ou can al so save it to your SIM card or you ca n set your default so that whenev er a new phonebook entry is created, you will be pr ompted to choose between Phone or SIM card .

66 Section 6 Copy all to phone This option allows you to copy all contact s from your SIM card to your phone. For mor e information, see "Copying all SIM Phonebook Entries" on page 62. Section 7: Messages 85 Sentbox Section 7 Sentbox This message box stores messages that you have sent. When you enter this menu, the list of messages in the box displays with the r e cipients’ phone numbers or names, if available in your Phonebook.
86 Section 7 Outbox This message box stores messages that you have attempted to send but have not actually been sent yet. When you enter this menu, the list of message s in the box displays with the recipients’ phone numbers or names, if available in your Phonebook.
Section 7: Messages 87 Drafts Section 7 Drafts This message box stor es messages that you may want to edit or send at a later time. When you enter this menu, the list of messages in the box displays. Note: By pressing the Left or Right Navigation keys, you may scroll between Inbox, Sentbox, Outbox, and Drafts.

Section 7: Messages 91 Broadcast Messages (SIM Dependent) Section 7 Send Settings • Delivery repor t : when this option is enabled, the network informs you whether or not your message has been de livered. • Read reply : when this option is enabled, your phone sends a request for a reply along with your message to the recipient.

Section 8 94 Time & Date Settings This menu allows you to chan ge the current time and date displayed. The following options ar e available: • Set time: allows you to change the ho ur and minute. • AM/PM: allows you to set either AM or PM. • Time format: allows you to select whether your time is displayed in 12 hour or 24 hour format.

Use the Up or Down Navigation key to select the option you wish to change. 5. To s e t Set time or Set date , use the Left or Right key to position the cursor over the number you wish to cha nge.
Section 8 96 Slide settings This menu allows you to set how your phone will function when you slide your phone open or closed. The following options are available: • Up : select Accept call if you want the call to be answered when you slide your phone open.
Section 8: Changing Y our Settings 97 Display Settings Section 8 3. When you have fini shed changing your settings, pr ess the Save soft key to save your settings. Otherwise press the Cancel soft key . Display Settings In this menu, you can change various settings for the display or backlight.
Section 8 98 Interior display Y ou can select the color of the menus displayed. Ther e are two diffe rent patte rns to choose fr om. Brightness control Y ou can adjust the display brightness to see it better in diffe rent lighting co nditions. Press the Left or Right Navigation key or press the Vo l u m e keys to adjust the brightness.
Section 8: Changing Y our Settings 99 Display Settings Section 8 Dialing display This menu allows you to select the size and color of your dialing font. Y ou can also set your background color . T o change the size of the font: 1. Highlight the Font size option and press the Select soft key or the key .
Section 8 100 Calendar This menu allows you to set a calendar to display over the top of your wallpaper in Idle mo de. Choose between On or Off . The Calendar is set to Off by default.
Section 8: Changing Y our Settings 101 Sound Settings Section 8 Use the Right or Left key to incr ease or decrease the volume. Alert type This menu allows you to specify how you ar e to be informed of incoming c alls. Use the Ri ght or Left key to select a ring tone.
