Getting Started 4 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section explains how to st art using your phone by first configuring yo ur hardware, activati ng your service, and then setting up your voic e mail.
5 4. Carefully sli de the SIM card into the SI M card socket u nti l the card locks into place. Make sure that the card’ s gold contacts fac e into the phone and that the upper-le ft angled corner of the card is positioned as shown. Note: If the card is not inserted correctly , the phone does not detect the SIM card.

Replace the ba tter y: • (1) Slide t he batter y back in to the compartment so that the tabs on the en d align wit h the slot s at the bott om of the phone. • (2) Pr ess t he ba ttery do wn u n til it clicks into p lace. 6. Reinstall the ba ttery cover by slidi ng it back onto the phone until y ou here it securely click.
7 Char ging a Batter y Y our phone is powered by a rechargeable Li-ion batter y . A wall charger , whic h is used for charging the battery , is included with your phone. Use only approved batteries and chargers. Ask your local Samsung dealer for further details.
Getting Started 8 Note: The previous illustration displays the incorrect method for connecting the charger . If attemp ted, damage to the accessory port will occur therefore voiding the phone’ s warranty. 2. Plug the adapter’ s power plug into a standard AC wall outlet.
9 Setting Up Y our V oice Mail For new users, follow the instructio ns below to set up voice mail: 1. In Idle mode, press and hold the key on the keypad. Y ou may be prompted to enter a password. 2. Follow the tutorial to cre ate a pa ssword, a greeting, and your name.

13 Display Layout Y our display screen pro vides a wealth of information ab out the p hone’ s status and opti ons. The display has 3 areas: Icons This list identifies the sy mbols you’ll see on your phone’ s display screen: Displays the received si gn al strength.
Understanding Y our Phone 14 Missed Messages Tab When you rec eive new messages, ic ons display in two loca tions: on the phone’ s screen, Missed messages tab, and in the icon ba r at the top of the sc reen (see “Display Layout” on page 13.) Displays when Call Forw arding is active.
15 Missed Messages T a b icons: Following are the icons that displ ay on the view tab: Backligh t A backlight il luminates the in te rnal display and the keypad. When you press any key, the backlight comes on . It goes off when no key s are pressed within a g iven period of time , depending on the setting wi thin the Backlight menu.
Understanding Y our Phone 16 Brightness After you set the backlight duration, set the brightness levels. 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Settings ➔ Display settings and press the Select soft key or the key . 2. Highlight Backlight ➔ Brightness and press the Select soft ke y or the key .
17 Section 3: Call Functions This section de scribes how to ma ke or answer a call. It also explains the f eatures and f unctionality associated with making or answeri ng a call. F or more information on Ringtones s ee “Ring tone” on page 77. F or more information on Call Forward ing see “Call Forwarding” on page 87.
Call Functions 18 Re dialing the Last Nu mber The phone stores the numbers of the calls you’ve diale d, received, or missed if the c aller is iden tified. T o recall any of th ese numbers: 1. If you typed characters on the display , pr ess the key to return to Idle mode.
19 Answ ering a Call When somebody calls you, the phone rings and display s the incoming call image. The caller’ s phone number , or name if stored in Phonebook, displays.
Call Functions 20 Viewing Missed Calls When you are un able to answer a call for any reason, you ca n find out who is call ing you, if this serv ice is availa ble, so that you can return the call. The number of calls you missed displays on the id le screen immediately after a call is missed.
21 Outgoin g calls This menu lets you view the 30 mo st recent calls you dialed. The name and numbe r , if already store d in your Phoneb ook, displays with the numbe r of occurrences for each number . Delete all This menu allows you to dele te the records in each call re cord separately , or you can dele te all of your call rec ords at one time .
Call Functions 22 Vibration Mode Vibration Mode is convenient when yo u wish to stop the phone from making an y noise, in a theat er for example. In Idle mode, press and hold the key until the “Vibration Mode On” message and the Vibration icon ( ) displays.
23 Selecting Options T o view the variou s functions an d options avai lable, you must select the one you want by: 1. Press the appropriate s oft key . 2. T o select the function displayed or the option highlighted, press the Select soft key or the key.
Call Functions 24 Putting a Call on Hold Y ou can place the current call on hold whenever you want. Y ou can also make another call while you ha ve a call in progress if your netw ork supports this s ervice. T o place a call on hol d: 1. Press Options ➔ Hold , then p ress the Select soft key or the key .
25 Searching for a Number in the Phonebook Y ou can search for a number in Phonebook during a call . 1. Press Options ➔ Phoneb ook and press . With the Phone book entrie s displayed: 2. Enter the name that you wish to find in the textbox located a bove the entrie s.
Call Functions 26 Note: The number of people that can participate in this multi-party call can var y and depends on available network parameters. Setting up a Multi-Par ty Call 1. Call the first particip ant in the normal way . 2. Press Options ➔ New call .
27 Dropping One Par ticipant 1. Press Options ➔ Remove then press the Right Navigation key . 2. Highlight the number you wish to remove fr om the multip arty call and press the Select soft key or the key . The rema ining participant on hold is highli ghted.
Menu Navigation 28 Section 4: Menu Na vigation This section explains the menu navigati on for yo ur phone. It also inc ludes an outline of all the availab le menus associated with your phone. Menu Naviga tion Y ou can tailor the phone’ s range of functions to your needs using menus an d sub-menus.
29 Using Shortcuts The menu items, such as menus, sub-me nus, and options , are numbered and can be accessed qui ckly by using their shortcut numbers. For th e main menus, you can access any one of them by pressing the number keys (1 to 0 or * and #) corresponding to their location o n the screen.
Entering T ext 30 Section 5: Entering T e xt This section outlines how to se lect the desired text input m ode when enteri ng characters into yo ur phone. This section also describes how to use the T9 predicti ve text entry system to reduce the nu mber of key stroke s associated with entering text.
31 1. T o change the te xt input mode, pres s the key . Each time you pr ess the key, the text mode indicator changes to displ ay one of the fol lowing: • T9 (English) Ab • T9 (English) AB • T9 .
Entering T ext 32 Example: T o enter “Hello” in T9 mode, press the 4, 3, 5, 5, and 6 keys. The word that you are typing displays on the scr een . It may change wit h each consecutiv e key that you press. 2. Enter the whole word before editing or deleting the keystroke s.
33 • T o shift case in T9 mode, use the key . There are 3 cases: Initial capital, Capital lock, and Lower case. • Y ou can move the cursor by using the Navigation keys. T o delete letters, press the Right soft key . Press and hold the Right soft key to clear the display .
Entering T ext 34 Ke ys By default, the first le tter of an entr y is capita lized and all consec utive letters are kept i n lowercase (unless y ou press the Shift key). After entering a character , th e curs or automatically advances to the next space after two seconds or when you enter a ch aracter on a different key .
35 Section 6: Understanding Y our Phone book This section expl ains how to use and manage your Phonebook. Y ou can save pho ne numbers to your phone’s memory on to your SIM card. Using Contacts List Use the following procedures to st ore a new contact to your Phone.

37 If your phone is set up to store co ntacts to yo ur SIM card, follow this pro cedure to store a number . 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Phonebook ➔ Add new contact and press the Select soft key or the key . 2. Enter a name for your contact into the Name field.
Understanding Y our Phonebook 38 Finding a Phonebook Entr y Y ou can store phone numbers and thei r corresponding names onto either your SIM card or phone’ s built-in memory . They are physically separ ate but are used as a single entit y , called Phonebook.
39 • Copy to phone/SI M card : allows y ou to copy t he selected contact entr y or al l contact entries to t he Phone or SIM card. Depends on where the entr y was origin ally creat ed. • Select language : allows you to sel ect between English, Français , and Espa ñol.
Understanding Y our Phonebook 40 Adding a New Caller Group 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Phonebook ➔ Groups and press the Select soft key or the key . 2. Press Options ➔ Create new group and press the Se lect soft key or the key . 3. Enter a name for the new group in the Name field.
41 The following opti ons are available: • Down loaded im ages : allows you to choose a phot o from your Downloaded images folder . •I c o n s : allows you to choose from pre-defined ico ns. 6. T o change the ringtone associated with the Ca ller group, press the Down key to highlight the Ringtone icon.
Understanding Y our Phonebook 42 Block list The Block list menu allows you to add or remove cont acts from the blocked list of c allers. Creating a Block list 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Phonebook ➔ Block list and pre ss the Select soft key or the key .
43 Management The Management menu allows yo u to select where your conta cts save, copy your SIM contacts to your phone, delete your contacts, or check your memory status. 䊳 In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Phonebook ➔ Management and press the Select soft key or the key.
Understanding Y our Phonebook 44 Memor y Status Y ou can check how many names and numbers are stored in the Phone book, on the SIM card, or the FDN list. Y ou can also see the capac ity of all three memori es. 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Phonebook ➔ Management ➔ Memory s tatus and press the Select soft key or the key .
45 FDN List FDN (Fixed Dial Number) mode, if supported by your SIM card , allows you to rest rict your outgoing calls to a limited set of phone numbers. The FDN list allo ws you to set up a list of numbers that your phone may di al. Note: FDN mode must first be enabled in the Security settings.
Messages 46 Section 7: Messages This section describe s how to send or receiv e different type s of me ssages. It also ex plains the featu res and functional ity associated with me ssaging.
47 There are three Missed messag e tabs that display icons: Y ou can search through missed call s or unviewed messages by using the Right and Left navigation keys to select the associated message tab, and then press the Vie w , Play or Connect soft key .

The following o ptions are availa ble: • Input mode : allows you to select the text input mode (ab, Ab, AB, T 9ab, T9Ab,T9AB, numer ic, or Symbols). • Insert from : allows you to inse rt from the text T emplate, Phonebook , or Bookmar k.
49 Picture Messa ges This menu allows you to use the Mu ltime dia Message Service (MMS). Picture Messaging i s a messaging ser vice that provi des delivery of personal multimedia message s from phone to phone or from phone to email.
Messages 50 Note: For more information about entering characters, see “Using ABC Mode” on page 33. 5. T o add a picture, highlight the Image option and press the key .
51 • My Album : allows you to send t he messag e to My Album. 17. The number or address you selected enters in the To text box. 18. Press the Send key to se nd the messa ge. V oice Notes In this menu, you can record a voice note of up to one minu te long and then immediately send it via Picture Messaging.

Messages 56 Viewing a Push M essage in the Inb o x A Push Message is a me thod for your service provi der to deliver co ntent (e.g. images, ri ngtones, software upgrades, information, etc.) to mobile phones that are WAP enabled . Y ou cannot initiate or reply to WAP Push Messages.
57 5. While viewing a draft message, you c a n choose different options, depe nding on the type of message, by pressing the Options soft key . Sentbo x This message box stores messages that you have sent or messages tha t you attempted to send but were not actually sen t.
Messages 58 V oice Mail This menu provides you with a way of access ing your voice ma ilbox, if prov ided by your network. 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Messages ➔ Voice m ail and press the Select soft key or the key . 2. Press the Call soft key to call Voice mail.
59 Picture message The following options are use d to set Send and Receive se ttings for Picture messages. Send Settings • Delivery report : when this option is enabled, th e network informs you whether or not y our message was delivered.
Messages 60 Memor y Status Y ou can check th e amount of the memor y used and the memor y remainin g for multimedia messa ges. The display shows the total space inc l uding the used and free space.
61 Section 8: t-zones This section outlines the t-zones service on your phone. F or more information, contact T -Mobile. t-zones Y our phone is equipped with a WAP (W ireless Applic ation Proto col) browser which provides you wirel ess access and navigation to the Web using your phone.
t-zones 62 • Initial-capital mode (A) : allows you to enter English characters with the first letter as a capital letter and subsequent letters as lower -case. • Lower -case character mode (a) : allows you to enter lower -case English characters. Note: Y ou can enter symbols in upper-case or lower -case character mode by pressing the key .
63 – Page detail s : allows you to view details about the curre nt page such as: Title, URL, Mimetype, and Size. – Browser settings : Various s ettings are available, see “Browser Settings” on page 64. – Exit browser : exits the browser page y ou are viewing and returns to the Home page.
t-zones 64 Bro wse r Sett ings Various settings are available when you are using the t-zones browse r to navigate the wireless web. Clear Cac he Y ou can c lear the info rmation stored in t he cache, wh ich is the phon e’ s temporary memory that stores th e most recently accessed Web pages.
65 Section 9: Files This section outlines the va rious applica tions that are availa ble on your phone. Files Files allows you to manage your sounds, images, and memory status in one conv enient location. 䊳 In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Files and press the Select soft key or the key .
Files 66 V oice list 䊳 The Voice list contains your recorded audio messages. Highlight an item and press the Select soft key or the key . The following o ptions are avai lable: • Send via : allows you to send the audio message via Pict ure message.
67 2. Highlight the My Albu ms option and press the Select soft key o r the key . The t-zones browser is then launched and the T -Mobi le Web page displays. 3. Scroll down to a desired album link and press the Select soft key or the key . 4. Select soft key or th e key to view the photos.
Files 68 • Set up to 3 alarms to ring at specified times. • Set the phone to switch on automatically and ring the alarm e ven if the phone is switched off. The following opt ions are available: – Alarm 1 : set the day , time, and tone for this alarm.
69 • Set schedules and note anniversa ries • Make a tasks list. • Write memos to keep track of your sche dule. • Set an alarm to act as a reminder , if nece ssary .
Files 70 Week view When you select this opti on, the cale ndar displays the selected week with today’ s date and time highl ighted. The following options a re available when y ou press the Options soft key: – Vie w m od e : takes you to the D ay view or Month view of the selected day .
71 2. Press the Options soft key . 3. Highlight Create new , and press the key . 4. Enter the occasion in the Occasion text box then press the Down Navigation key . 5. Continue to en ter other in formation inc luding Date, Alarm, before, A larm time, AM/P M, and Repeat every year .
Files 72 Memor y status This menu item shows the numbe r of calendar events you presently have and how many more you memory space for . It breaks down your events by Sc hedule, Anniversaries, or Miscellaneous. Ta s k s This feature allows you to enter a list of tasks.
73 Calculator With this feature, y ou can use the phone as a calculator . The calculator provides the basic arithmetic functions; addition, subtra ction, mult iplication, and div ision.
Files 74 Wo r l d T i me This feature allows you to find out what time it is anot her part of world, using the Left and Right Navigation ke ys. 䊳 Press the Set DST soft key to set to Daylight saving time.
75 Data to Sync This feature allows you to sync hronize your Contacts, Calendar ev ents, and T a sk list with your T -Mobile account on the network. 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Organizer ➔ Synchroniz ation and press the Select soft key or the key .
Files 76 Unit Co nv ersi on The conversion menu provides the following conversion ca tegories: – Currency – Length – Weight – Volu me – Area – Te m p e r a t u r e T o convert a currency , length, weight, volume , area, or temperature, do the following: 1.
77 Section 10: Changing Y our Settings This section explains the sound and phone settings for your phone. It in c ludes such settings as : display , security , memory , and any extra settings associated with your phone. Sound Settings Y ou can customize v a rious sound settings.
Changing Y our Settings 78 Aler t type This menu allows you to specify ho w you are informed of incoming calls. Use the Right or Left key to sele ct a Ring tone type. The following opt ions are available: – Melody : the phone rings u sing the ring melody selecte d in the Ring tone menu.
79 Extra tones Y ou can customize a dditional tones for the phone. 1. T o turn a given t one on, press th e key . A check mark displ ays in front of t he option. Pr ess the Save soft key to save the setting. 2. T o turn a given tone off, press th e key .
Changing Y our Settings 80 Info display This menu allows you to se t text st yle (Outline, Shadow , or Normal) and text c olor (White, Y ellow , Blue, Green, Red, or Black). 1. Press the Left or Right Navigation key to change the settings. 2. Press the Save soft key to apply yo ur changes, or the Cancel soft key to cancel.
81 Greeting mess age In this menu you enter the text wh ich displays on the main screen when the phone powers on. Backligh t A backlight illumi nates the internal display and the keypad.
Changing Y our Settings 82 Contrast Y ou can adjust the co ntrast value on t he Main LCD to make it easier to see them under different lighting conditions. 1. Highlight the Contrast option and press the Select soft key or the key. 2. Press the Up or Down Navigation ke ys to change these settings.

85 The following opti ons are available: – Disable : the phone connec ts directly to the netw ork when you switch it on . – Enable : you must enter th e PIN each time the p hone is switched on. Chang e PIN code This feature allows you to c hange your curren t PIN, provided that th e PIN check feature i s enabled.
