Getting Started 1 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section explains how to start using your pho ne by first configuring your hardw are, activatin g your service, and then setting up your voice mail. Setting Up Y our Phone Prior to use it is ne cessary to install both the battery and SIM into their corresponding in ternal compartments.
2 Installing the SIM Card When you subscribe to a cellul ar net work, you are provided with a plug-in SIM c ard loaded with your subsc ription details, such as your PIN, availa ble optional services, and many others features.
Getting Started 3 2. Gently press down to secure the battery (2). R emo ving and Installing the Mem or y Car d Y ou can use a microSD (SD) or microSDHC card to expand available memory space if you desire. This secu re digital card enables you to exchan ge images, music, and data between SD-compatible devices.
4 Installing the Back Co ver 1. Place the battery cover onto th e back of the phone (1) and press down (2). 2. Press along the ed ge of the back cover (3) un til you have a secure seal. Important! When placing the cover back on the phone, press down firmly along the edges to ensure th at the cover is flush with the phone.
Getting Started 5 3. Use a coin or other object inserted in the slot on the back cover (A) and turn it clockwise to lock the battery cover (B). Note: Make sure the battery is properly ins talled before switchin g on the phone. Charging a Batter y Y our device is powered by a rechargeable Li-ion battery .
6 1. Plug the flat end of the T ravel Charger into the Power/ Accessory Interface connec tor and the other end into a standard AC wall outlet. 2. When charging is finished, re move the flat end from the interface connector jack on the phone. Wa rning! A touch screen respon ds best to a light touch from the pad of your finger .
Getting Started 7 Switching the Phon e On or Of f 1. Press and hold until the phone switches on. 2. Sweep your finger across the scree n to unlock the phone. Note: The display language is preset to Englis h at the factory . T o change the language, use the Language menu.
8 5. At the Samsung A ccount screen, you can cre ate a new account, sign in to an exis ting account, or tap Skip to proceed without linking your phone to a Samsung Account. A Samsung Accoun t is required to access services provid ed by Samsung, such as Samsung Apps .
Getting Started 9 Creating a Samsung Account An active Samsung account is required to b egin accessing applications such as ChatON and AllShare Play . 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Settings ➔ Accounts and sync ➔ Add account ➔ Samsung account.

32 Creating Application F older s Y ou can create application folder s to hold similar applic ations if you wish. T o create a folder follow these steps: 1. Press to activate the main Home screen. 2. T ap to display y our current applications. 3. Ta p t h e Apps tab at the top of the screen if it is not already selected.

34 5. Press to return to the main Home screen. Adding and Deleting Home Screens Y ou can delete Home screens and then add Home screens later if you want. T o delete a Home scre en, follow these steps: 1. Press to activate the main Home screen. 2. Press and tap Edit page .

T ouch and hold the Home screen that contains and drag it to the new location. Note: The icon will only be displayed if a Home screen has previously been deleted.
36 Clearing Notifications T o clear all notifications from the Notification pane l: 1. From the Home screen, touch and hold the Notification Bar until the pull-down displays, then drag down vertically . 2. Ta p t h e Clear button. The notifications are clear ed and the panel closes.

Call Functi ons 4 1 1. From the Home screen, tap . 2. Enter the emergency number (e x: 91 1) and then tap . 3. Complete your call. During this type of call, you will have access to the Speaker mode, Keyp ad, and End Call features.
42 Making a Call from the Addr ess Book Y ou can store phone numbers that you use regularly on the SIM card or in the ph one’s memory . These entries are collective ly called the Address Book . For further details about the Address Book feature, see “Finding an Address Book Entry” o n page 63.
Call Functi ons 4 3 Dialing Options From the Home screen and Applica tion menus, you have the option to acc ess the Dialer and initiat e a call by tappin g ➔ Keypad . From the Dialer and t he Contacts screen, the following tabs are located at the top of your screen: • Keypad : dials the current number entered using the on -screen keypad.
44 Note: If there is a voicemail sent by the same number , associated icons are displayed and can then be selected. 2. The Call log is displaye d. Missed calls are identifi ed by the icon next to the number . Calling Bac k a Missed Call T o call back a missed call number: 1.

46 Adding a Call to the R eject List 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ Logs . A list of rece nt calls is displayed. 2. T ouch and hold the call you want to add to the Reject List. 3. Ta p Add to reject list . 4. At the Add to reject l ist prompt , tap OK .
Call Functi ons 4 7 • Speaker : routes the phone’ s audio through either the speaker or through the earpie ce. – Ta p Speaker to route the audio through the spe aker . (Y ou can adjust the speaker volume using the volu me keys.) A green line will appear under the Speaker button.
48 Switching Betw een Calls When you have a n active call and a call on hold, you may switch between the two calls, changing the one on hold to active and placing the oth er on hold.

50 Switching off the Microphone (Mute) Y ou can temporarily switch your phone’ s microphone off, so that the other person cannot hear you. Example: Y ou wish to say something to pers on in the room, but do not want the person on the phon e to hear you.

52 A uto scr een off during calls This option turns on the proximity se nsor during calls so that your phone will know to tu rn the screen off to save power . From the Home screen, tap ➔ ➔ Call settings ➔ Auto screen off during calls to create a checkmark a nd enable the feature .
Call Functi ons 5 3 • Forward wh en unreacha ble : allows you to forwa rd voice calls to a designated numb er instead of your voicemail number when you are not in an are a covered by y our service p rovider or when y our phone is switched off. Additional settings 1.
54 Change PIN2 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ ➔ Call settings ➔ Additional settings ➔ Fixed Dialling Numbers . 2. Ta p Change PIN2 . 3. At the prompt, enter your old PIN2 code. 4. At the prompt, enter a new PIN2 code. 5. Confirm your PIN2 code.
Call Functi ons 5 5 Accounts SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) is an Int ernet protocol used for live communication sessions suc h as phone calls. This menu will allow you to set up your SIP account s for Internet calling. 1. From the Home screen, tap ➔ ➔ Call settings .
56 Section 4: Entering T ext This section describes how to select the de sired text input method when ent ering characters into your phone. This section als o describes the pred ictive text entry s ystem that reduces the amount of key stro kes associated with entering text.
Entering T ext 57 Changing the T ext Input Mode - K eypad There are two main keypad layo ut keys that will change the on-screen keys within the QWERTY keypad. The available T ext Input modes are: Sym and Abc . Note: When in Abc mode, the Sym button will appear .

If you want to add a phone number that is not a mobile number , tap the Mobile button and select from Mobile, Home, Work, Work fax , Home Fax, Pager , Other , Custom (add your own label), or Callback.

72 Deleting Address Book Entries from the Phone Y ou can delete Phone or SIM entries from your phone’ s memory . 1. From the Home screen, tap Contacts . 2. Within the Contacts list, touch an d hold a contact that you want to delete . 3. Ta p Delete on the displa yed list.
Multimedia 73 Section 6: Multime dia This section explains how to use the multimedia features of your phone, including Music Player , Video Player , Play Movies, Gallery , Camera, and Camcorder . Music Player The Music Player is an applicati on that can play music files.
74 Music Play er Options T o access additional options, follow these steps: 1. While in the Music Player , press . 2. The follow options are available: • Add to quick lis t : adds the current music file to the Quick li st. • Via Blueto oth : scans fo r devices and pairs wi th a Blueto oth headset.
Multimedia 75 •L y r i c s : when acti vated, the lyrics of t he song are displayed if availabl e. • Music auto off : when activated, music will automat ically turn off af ter a set in terval. Using Playlists Playlists are us ed to group songs in lists for later playback.
76 Video Player The Vide o Player application pl a ys video files stored on your phone or microSD card. 1. Ta p ➔ Video player . 2. All videos that you have on your phone and memory card will be displayed. T ap the video that you want to play . 3. The video will begin to play .
Multimedia 77 Galler y The Gallery is where you view photos and play back videos. For photos, you can also perform basic edit ing tasks, view a slideshow , set photos as wallpaper or contact image, and share as a picture message. 1. T ap ➔ Gallery .
78 Camera This section explains h ow to use the camera o n your phone. Y ou can take photographs and shoot vid eo by using the built- in camera functionality . Y our 5 megapixel camera produces photos in JPEG format. Important! Do not take photos of people without their permission.
Multimedia 79 6. Press the Camera key ( ) until the lens focuses (focus brackets turn g reen) then release the key to take the pictur e. The picture is auto matica lly stored within your designated storage lo cation. If no microSD card is installed, pictures are stored on the Phone.
80 • Panorama : takes a landscape ph oto by combining several images. Press the Camera key to take the initial image and move the phone slowly in one direction. Each time the green frame is centred in the screen, an additiona l photo is taken automatically .
Multimedia 81 Resolution : allows you to se t the im age size to either: 5M (2560x1920), W4M (2560x1536), 3.2 M (2048x1536), W2.4M (2048x1232), W0.4M (800x480 ), or 0.3M (640x480). White balance : allows you to set the white balance for various types of lighting: Auto, Daylight, Cloudy , Incandescent, or Fluore scent.
82 Viewing y our Pictures After you t ake a photo, you c an access various opt ions from the Image Viewer . The Image Viewer uses your Gallery . For more information, refer to “Gallery” on page 77. Using the Camcorder In addition to taking photos , the camera also doubles as a camcorder that also allows you to record, view , and send videos.

Camcorder Options Options are represent ed by icons across both sides of the screen. Camera / Camcorder Mode : switches the camera between camera and camcorder mode.
84 Viewing y our Videos After you take a video, you can ac cess various options from the Image Vie wer. The Im age Viewer uses your Gallery and the Video Player . For more information, refer to “Gallery” on page 77. Also, see “V ideo Player” on page 76.
Messaging 85 Section 7: Messaging This section describ es how to send and receive dif ferent types of messages. It also includes t he features and functionality associated with messaging.

88 Adding Additional T ext Y ou can copy text such as names, phone numb ers, and events from your Contacts , Calendar or a Memo. 1. While composing a message, press ➔ Add text . 2. At the Add text screen, sele ct one of the following: •M e m o : allows you to inse rt text from an existing Memo.
