Y our Phone 4 Phone Layout Open View of Y our Phone The following illu strations show the main elements of your phone: 1. The LCD Display screen displays the time and date, messages and numbers, as well as the current function of the left and rig ht soft keys.
Y our Phone 5 5. In Idle mode, press and hold the key is used to acti vate/ deactivate Quiet mode. In te xt entry mode, the key is used to insert a space. Pr ess and hold the key to swit ch to Symbol mode. 6. The Alphanumeric keys enter numbers, letters, and some special characters.

Y our Phone 10 Memor y Card Y our phone allows you to use a microSD card and an adapter to expand the phone’ s availa ble memor y space. This memor y card and adapter enables image s, music, and voice data to quick ly and easily be exchanged between SD-com patible device s.
Getting S tarted 11 Getting Started Activating Y our Phone When you subscribe to a cellular ne twork, a plug-in SIM card loaded with your subscription details, such as your PIN and other optional serv ices. Removing the Batter y 1. If necessary , power -off the phone by holding down the key until the power-off imag e displays.
Getting S tarted 12 3. Remove the battery by lifting up, as shown. Installing the SIM Card Note: Important! The plu g-in SIM card and its co ntacts can be eas ily damaged by scratches or bending. Use caution when inser ting or removing the card and keep all SIM cards out of reach from children.
Getting S tarted 13 Removing the SIM Card T o remove the SIM card, slide it awa y from the handset. See the following illustration. Installing the Battery 1. Align the battery so that the 3 br ass tabs on the end align with the 3 brass prongs at the bottom of the battery compartment.
Getting S tarted 14 2. Press the battery down until it c licks into place. Make sure that the battery is properly insta lled before switching on the phone. Charging a Battery Y our phone is powered by a rechar geable Li-ion battery . Use the travel adapter to charge the ba ttery , and use only Samsung approved batteries and chargers.

Getting S tarted 16 4. If the phone asks for a PIN, enter the PIN and press the OK soft key . For further details, see “PIN Check” on page 143. The phone searches for your network and, after finding it, the idle screen appears on the display . Y ou can now make or receive a call.
Call Functions 17 Call Functions Selecting Functions and Options The roles of th e soft keys vary depending on the function you are currently using. The labels on th e bottom line of the display just above each key in dicate their current role. The Left soft key can be used in several differ ent ways.
Call Functions 18 Back option. This action is shown in the bottom right corner of the Display Screen. ♦ In some functions , you may be as ked for a password or PIN. Enter the code and press the OK soft key . Note: When you access a list of options, your phone highligh ts the current option.
Call Functions 19 Making a Call When the idle screen displays , enter the area code and phone number , then press the key . Note: When you activate the Auto Redial option in the Extra Settings menu ( Menu 9.2.5 ), the phone automatically redials up to te n times when the person does not answer the call or is already on t he phone.
Call Functions 20 Redialling the Last Number The phone stores the nu mbers you have dialed, rece ived or missed if the caller is identified. See “C all History” on page 58 for further details. T o recall any of these numbers: 1. If you have type d characters on th e display , press either the Back soft key or t he key to return to Idle m ode.
Call Functions 21 Making a Call from Contact list Y ou can store the phone numbers th at you use regula rly in the SIM card or the phone’ s memory , which are collectively called Contact List . Simply select a name to recall the as sociated number .
Call Functions 22 ♦ T o reject the call, press and hold one of the side Volume keys , or press the Reject soft key or key . A quick press of the side V olume keys silences the ringer for the incoming call. 3. End the call by pressing the key . Note: You can answer a call while using the Contact list or menu f eatures.
Call Functions 23 Saving a Missed Call Number Note: When the number for the missed ca ll is not available, the Edit option does not display. 1. Press the View soft ke y . 2. Press the Up or Down key to highlight the number you wish to save and pr ess the Options soft ke y .

Quiet mode Quiet mode is convenient when you wish to stop the phone from making noise, such as when you are in a thea ter , for example.
Options During a Call 25 Options During a Call Y our phone provides a number of fe atures that you can use during a call. Putting a Call on Hold Y ou can place the current call on hold whenever you want. Y ou can make another call while you have a call in progress if your network supports this service.

Entering T ext 30 Entering T ext When using your pho ne, you will ofte n need to enter tex t, such as when storing a name in the Cont act list, creating your personal greeting or scheduling events on you r calendar . Y ou can enter alphanumeric characters by using your phone’ s keypad.

It could result in loss or damage of data. Note: If you remove your memory card, the location to save images will automatically default back to In Phone .

Messages 73 ♦ Service Center : allows the recipi ent of your message to send you a reply through your message center , if your network supports this serv ice. ♦ Default Destination : allows you to set a destination address for any replies to your text message.
Messages 74 ♦ Report Allowed : when this option is enabled, the sender of an incoming message receive s a de livery report from the network. ♦ Auto Download : when this option is enabled, you r phone will automatically download receiv ed multimedia messages.

Games 76 Games Y ou can play games already stored on your phone. Get Games This option allows you to downl oad games from your se rvice provider . Follow the online instru ctions shown on your display screen. Once you have downloaded games, they are added to your phone’ s list of games.
Games 77 Viewing Game Information 1. In Idle mode, select Menu 3 for Games . 2. Highlight My Games and press the key . 3. Scroll to the game you want, press the Options soft key and select Proper ties . The display shows information about the game, such as the Si ze, Version, Vendor and website.
To o l s 78 T ools T ools enable you to: ♦ set an alarm so that the phone rings at a specific ti me, such as to remind you of an appointment. ♦ view the calendar and organize your schedule. ♦ use the phone as a calculator for basic mathematical equations or currency exchange operations.

To o l s 81 Writing a Calendar Entry Y ou can create up to 300 calendar entr ies. T o write or edit a calendar entry on a specific date : 1. Select a timeslot on the current view (month, week or day), using the Navigation keys and press the key .

To o l s 86 Ti me r The Timer application ( Menu 4.5.3 ) allows you to create a digital countdown. T o start the timer: 1. Press the Set soft ke y . 2. Using the numeric ke ys, enter the amount of time that you wish to countdown from and press the OK soft key .

Rogers Mall 88 Get TV/Video This menu ( Menu 5.5 ) allows you to download new video clips from your service provider . Follow the online instructions shown on your display screen. Once you have downl oaded the video clips, they are added to your phone’ s list of videos.
Rogers Mall 89 Navigating the In ternet Browser Entering T ext in the Internet Browser When you are prompted to enter text, the current text input mode is indicated on the screen.

Media 91 Media The Multimedia menu ( Menu 6 ) provides access to the following features: ♦ take pictures and video clips using the Camera. ♦ play music with the MP3 player . ♦ record audio clips. ♦ use the hands-free V oice Co mmand feature. Camera Using the camera menu ( Menu 6.
Media 92 3. Apply the desired effects and opti ons using either the left soft key or the keypad shortcut s (see “Using the Camera Op tions” on page 92). 4. Press the key to take the photo. ♦ T o discard the photo and return to th e capture mode , press the Options soft key and select Delete .
Media 93 ♦ Frames : allows you to use a decorated frame. Select a fr ame from the list using the Naviga tion keys and press the View soft key . If you wish to keep t he selected frame press the Select soft key . T o return to the list , press the Back soft key .
Media 94 • Wallpaper : allows you to set the photo as your wallpaper for the idle screen. • Caller ID : allows you to set the photo as a caller ID image for Contact li st entries. ♦ Delete : deletes the photo. ♦ Rename : allows you to change the name of the photo.
Media 95 ♦ Tim er : allows you to set a ti me delay before the camera start s recording a video. Select the le ngth of delay you want. When you press the key . The camera begi ns recording a video after the specified time. ♦ Go to Video : allows you to go to the Video menu.
Media 96 ♦ Share for Bluetooth: allows other Bluetooth-enabled devices within range to download copies of your video. ♦ Protection : prevents a video in your video album from being accidentally dele ted. Y ou must unprotect a video before it can be deleted.
Media 97 1. Press Menu 6.2 to st art the MP3 player . 2. Press the Options sof t key and select Add Music From to add music from your Phone or Memory card . 3. Using the navigation keys , scroll through the folders and/or list of music. Press to check or unche ck individual songs, or check All to select all songs.
Media 98 2. Y ou can use the navigation keys to control the player: ♦ Press to play or pause the current song. ♦ Use the side volume key to change the song volume. MP3 Player Op tions Press the Options soft key to access the following options: ♦ Play/Pause : allows you to listen/pause to the currently highlighted song from your playlist.
