5 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section explains how to st art using your phone by first configuring your hard ware, activating your service, and then setting up your voice mail. Setting Up Y our Phone Prior to use it is neces sary to install both the battery and SIM into their corresponding internal comp artments.
Getting Started 6 Note: If the card is not inserted correctly , the phone does not detect the SIM card. Re-orient the card back into the slot. Inst allin g the Memor y Card Y our phone also supports the use of a memor y card (microSD™) for data storage of such things as data, music, pictures, and video fil es.
7 3. Replace the batter y cover onto the back of the phone (3). 4. While applying pressure, slide the top portion towards the camera area (4) until you hear a li ght click. Note: Make sure the battery is properly installed before s witching on the phone.
Getting Started 8 2. Plug the flat end of the T ravel Adapter into the Power/ Accessory Interface conn ector and the ot her end into a standard AC wall outlet. 3. When charging is finish ed, fi rst unplug the adapter’ s power plug from the A C wall outlet an d then remov e the flat end from the interface c onnector jack on the phone.
9 Switching the Phone On or Off 1. Press and hold or until the phone switches on. The phone launches the activati on splash screen and then proceeds to search for the ne twork. On ce the network h as been found, you can ma ke or receive calls. Note: The display language is preset to English at the factory.

Note: Y ou can also access your voicemail from the onscreen keypad by touching then pressing or touch Call . 2. Follow the tutorial to crea te a password, record a greeting, and record your name.

13 Side Views of Y our Phone 1. Vol ume k ey s allow you to adjust t he ringer volume while in standby mode or adjust the voice volu me during a call . When receiv ing an inco ming call, brie fly press down eit her volume key ( ) to mute the ring tone.

This menu provides ready acc ess to some of the most commonly used features such as : Call, Music Player , Main menu, MEdia Net, and Messaging. 7. 15 Widget bar The Widget bar provides quick ac cess to those functions you use most frequently (Ana log Clock, Digi tal Clock, Dual Clock, TV , T oday, Calen dar , Photo, Birthday , Sound Profile, Alarm, Bluetooth, Calculator , Music player and Even t).

17 Using the Multitasking Menu This key ( ) launches the Mu ltita sk menu that can be activated f rom within any a ctive window or page on the phone. There is now no need to stop wh at you are doing, if you quickly want to jump out and activa te another co mmon feature.

19 Section 3: Menu Naviga tion This section explains the menu na vigation for your phone. The A867 has done away with the n eed for navigati on wheels or keypads. The A867 is co mpletely navigable by either an onscreen touch or scroll. • T ouc hing an onscreen option acti vates the fea ture.

21 Note: Scrolling requires that you press firmly on the screen then drag. When scrolling through a list (see below) make sure not to touch or press individual entries on the list as this will open the list entry. 23 W idgets The Widget bar pro vides quic k access to mini-programs (widgets). This bar (loc ated at the left of th e Idle screen) give s you information a t a glance and provides easy acce ss to freq.
Menu Navigation 24 Analog Clock : displays the current time on an analog clock. • T ouch, drag and drop the Analog clock onto the desktop to view the time in an analog format. Digital Cl ock : displays the curren t time on a digit al clo c k. • T ouch, drag and drop the Digital clock onto the desktop to view the tim e in a digital forma t.
25 Birthday : displays an o nscreen alert for a birthday occurring today on the cale ndar . These dates ha ve been previously entered for an entry within the Address Book on the day a ssigned for that person's birthday . • For more information, refer to “Adding a New Contact” on page 87.
Menu Navigation 26 W idget Bar Naviga tion Y ou can drag the widgets to the de sktop to use the application or feature, then drag it back t o the Widget Bar when you are finished. Note: Many widgets can be used directly from the widget bar without dragging them onto the screen (ex: Bluetooth and Alarms).

Call Functions 28 Section 4: Call Functions This section describes how to make or answer a c all. It also includes the features and functional ity associated with ma king or answering a call . For more informat ion, refer to “Call Settings” on page 66.
29 Dialing a R ecent N umber All incoming, outgoing and miss ed calls are recorded in t he Calls menu. If the number or caller is list ed in your Address B ook, the associated name also displayed.
Call Functions 30 Answ ering a Call When a call is receiv ed the phone rings and displays the caller’s phone number , or name if stored in the Address Book. 1. From t he Incomi ng ca ll screen, press . • If the Any Key op tion is activate d ( Settings ➔ Calls ➔ General ➔ Call Answ er ), you can press any key to answer a call except .

Call Functions 32 Video Share (In-Call) Y ou can begin a Video Share call during an existing call by touching V ideo Share ➔ Live . Play a V ideo Sh are Recordi ng During a call (while not in a Live Video Share session ) you can share a recorded video for the recipient.
33 Viewing Missed Calls The number of calls yo u have missed is disp layed on the Idle screen. 1. T ouch the onscreen Missed Ca lls dialog. The mo st recently missed call s are display ed. Note: If there is a voicemail sent by the same number , associated icons are displayed and can then be selected.
Call Functions 34 Saving a Missed Call to y our Address Book 1. T o uch the Missed Ca lls dialog. A list of the most recently missed calls is displayed. 2. T ouch the desired missed call. Note: Y ou may see different choices depending upon the settings for your “Save New Contacts to” option.
35 Call Time 1. T ouch ➔ T ools ➔ Recent Calls ➔ Call Manager ➔ Call Time . 2. Choose from one of the follo wing options: • Last Call Duration : shows the len gth of ti me for th e last ca ll. •T o t a l D i a l e d : shows the tota l length of time for t he call s made.
Call Functions 36 3. T o set the se counters back to zero, touch Reset . • Place a checkmar k adjacent to t hose individu al fields y ou would like reset. • To u c h All to place a checkmark adjacent to all fie lds. 4. Enter the password and touch Confirm to reset all counters.

Placing a Call on Hold Y ou can place the current call on hold at any point during a conversa tion. Y ou can al so make another call while you have a call in progress if your ne twork supports this service.
Call Functions 38 Using the Spe ake rphone During an Activ e C all While in an ac tive call, it is possible to enable the spe akerphone feature. 1. Dial the nu mber and press . 2. Once the call is answered, touc h Spkr On to activate the speakerphone.
39 Call W aiting The Call W aiting feature al lows you to answer an incoming call while you have a ca ll in progress, if this ser vice is supported by the network, and you have set the Settings ➔ Call s ➔ Voice Call ➔ Call Wai ting Menu to Activated .
Entering T ext 40 Section 5: Entering T ext This section outlines how to sele ct the desired te xt input mode when entering characters into your phone. This section also describes how to use the T9 pred ictive text entry syst em to reduce the number of key strokes associated with en tering text.
41 Changing the T ext Input Mode - K eypad When using your phone, you ofte n need to enter text, such as when storing a name in your Contacts List, creating your personal greeting or scheduling ev ents on your calendar . Y ou can enter alphanumeric characters by using your phone’ s keypad .
Entering T ext 42 Example: Both the words “Of” and “Me” have the 6 and 3 keys. The phone displays the most commonly used choice first. 4. Insert a space by touching Space and start entering the next word. Note: has some punctuation marks associated with it.
43 Multitap Key s By default, the first lette r of an entry is ca pitalized and all consecutive l etters are kept in l owercase (unless you t ouch the Shift key). After e ntering a character , the cursor automatica lly advances to the next space afte r two seconds or when you enter a characte r on a diffe rent key .
Entering T ext 44 4. Select the othe r letters in the same way . • T o enter a peri od, @, or comma touch . ABC mode a pplies grammar rule s to ensure correct pu nctuation. Y ou can m ove the cu rsor by touching Space . T o delete letters, touch . T ouch and hold ke y to clear the display .
45 Changing the T ext Input Mode - Handwriting Y ou can write your message using the Handwriting mode but if at any time you f eel you can’t reme mber how to input text, you can touch the Input Select field and se lect Key pad. The available T ext Input modes are: abc , Abc , ABC , Numeric , and Symbols .
Entering T ext 46 Handwriting Mode-Entering Character s 1. T ouch the T ext Input Mode bu tton at the bottom of the screen and select Abc . The input mode indicator then changes to which activates th e Initial uppercase function. 2. Write the desired text using the stylus.
47 • Draw a lin e ( ___ ) across the screen to insert a space. Since there is no let ter that matches this icon, th e A867 inserts a n empty space. • Y ou could als o touch the Input Select fie ld and choose Keypa d to then touch and insert an empty space.
Entering T ext 48 Using the QWERTY K eyboard From a screen where you can ente r text, rotate your phone to a Landscape orientation. Regardless of the current setting with the Input Select field (page 44), the onscreen QWERTY keyb oard will display .

This is onl y available within 123 and Emot op tions. 4. T ouch OK to complete the message and return to the previous screen.

59 T ransition Effect Allows you to acti vate/deactivate the default transition effec t (wipe) during transitions between menu/options pages. 1. From Idle mode, touch ➔ Settings ➔ Display and Light ➔ T ransition Effect. 2. T ouch either On (activate) or Off (deactivate).

The illumination bar will a ctivate during any of the following situations: • When an incoming call is received • When an incoming message is received • When the al arm rings • Power is turned On or Off.

T ouch the Date field then adjust t he Month , Day , and Ye a r values by using either the up/down inpu t arrows or by quickly sliding your fingertip over the numbers to scroll through their avai lable values.

63 Lock Phone When the Phone Lock phone fea ture is enabled, the phone is locked and you must enter the 4 to 8 digit phone password each time the phone is switched on. Note: Y ou will be prompted to create a password the first time this feature is enabled.

65 Change PIN code This feature allows you to change y our current PIN, provided th at the PIN chec k feature is enab led. The Check Pin Code field must be active before you can acce ss this function (page 63). Note: This code is provided by A T&T .

69 Bluetooth Secure Mode When the Bluetooth Vi sibility is turned on, your phone is wirelessly transmitting its phone name and st atus to every device within its range. This transmissi on can pose a security risk and incite unauthorized connection to your phone.
Changing Y our Settings 70 Configuring Y our Phone’s USB Settings This menu selects the method of co mmunication for the USB port. Note: The Bluetooth feature must first be disabled b efore initia ting a USB connection with the phone. Prior to connecting the USB cable to the phone, install the latest version of the PC Studio application.

Select the parameter you want to edit: • Set Name : enter a pr ofile na me. • Access Name : edit the acc ess point na me. • Auth T ype : select the t ype of authen tication used for this WAP connection: None, Normal, or Secure.

Video Features 76 Section 7: Video F eatures There are a number of available vide o services on your A867: • Cellular Video (CV) allows you to view pre-recorde d video clips of news stories, weather forecasts, sports highlights, m ovie trailers, music videos and more from popular content providers.

Video Features 78 Paren tal Contr ols Y our phone can be configured to block both purchased and streamed media cont ent. Before fi ltering, you must first establish a pin/password and a contact e-mail address.
79 Music Video O ptions While playing a music video channel, touch Guide to view the channel guide listing. Note: This service requires a subscription. Y ou will have a trial period, after which a fee will be applied. 1. T ouch ➔ AT & T M u s i c ➔ Music Videos ➔ Guide .
A T&T Mobile TV 80 Section 8: A T&T Mobile TV A T&T Mobile TV The A T&T Mobile TV service al lows you to watch an exciting lineup of live full-length e pisod es of entertainm ent, news.
81 Subscribing to A T&T Mobile TV Y ou need to be in an A T&T Mobile TV coverage area to subscribe. 1. In Idle mode, touch ➔ . 2. T ouch Subscribe now . The Review Base Package screen then appears. – or – If you decide to Subscribe later , you can access the Subscribe now option each time you launch Mobile TV .
A T&T Mobile TV 82 Using the Mobile TV Player While in the Mo bile TV application, yo u will receiv e visual notification f or incoming calls and calendar/alarm events. For all other incoming a lerts, you will receive only an audible ton e. T ouch any of the followin g onscre en buttons to navigate within the Player .
83 Activating Full-Screen Mode Y ou may view Mobile TV prog ramming using the entire video screen by touching after selecting a program. Note: The default resolution for program viewing is 320 x 240. 䊳 From a current onscreen pr ogram, touch . This resizes the onscreen video window to full-screen mode (400 x 240).
A T&T Mobile TV 84 Using the Options menu Y ou can change your subscription, set parental controls, check for updates, and refr esh your subscription by accessing the Options menu. 1. From t he Program Guide screen, touch . 2. Follow the onscreen options and make yo ur selection by touching the correspond ing onscreen butto n.

A T&T Mobile TV 86 Checking for updates 1. From t he Program Guide screen, touch to launch the Options menu. 2. T o uch Check for updates . The system searches for updates to your A T&T Mobile TV service and automati cally downloads any new software versions.

T ouch and touch a phone number from the list to reveal the Entry Options page (shown below) for the phone entry .
93 Finding My Own Phone Number This function is a memory aid, which you can use to check your own phone number if you need to do so. 䊳 In Idle mode, touch ➔ Address B ook ➔ Address Book Settings ➔ Own Number ➔ <voice line #> .

97 Deleting all entries fr om the SIM 1. In Idle mode, touch ➔ Address Book ➔ SIM Management ➔ Delete Contacts from SIM . T ouch the All field to place checkm arks alongside all the current Address Book entries. 2. T ouch Delete . 3. When you are finished, press to return to the Main menu.
