5 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section describes the first steps to operating you r phone. SIM Card Infor mation When you subscribe for 3G cellul ar network services, you receive a plug-in SIM (Subscriber Identity Modu le) card loaded with your subscription details, such as yo ur PIN, and available option al services.
Getting Started 6 Inst alli ng and Remo vi ng the SI M Car d Import ant!: The plug-in SIM card and its contacts can be easily damaged by scratches or bending. Use caution when inserting or removing the card, and keep all SIM cards out of reach of children.
7 3. T o remove the card, push it ba ckward until it clears the brackets in the slot, then lift and remo ve it (refer to illustration). Replaci ng the Batter y 1. T o rein stall the bat tery , wi th the batter y cover open, align the batter y tabs with the slots a t the bottom of t he phone.
Getting Started 8 Char ging the Batter y Y our phone is powered by a rechar geable Li -ion batter y . Use the travel adapter to charge the b atter y , and use only Samsung approved batteries and chargers. Note: Y ou must fully charge the battery before using your phone for the first time.
9 Important!: The battery charging function may stop if you are on a call or viewing a streaming-video while charging your battery. Note: During charging, you must unplug the adapter before removing the battery from the phone to a void damage.
Getting Started 10 Setting Up Y our V oice Mail Note: If your service provider did not pre-configure your voicemail server number , store the voicemail server number before accessing the server . Y our service provider can give you the number . For more information, refer to “Changing the Voice Mail Name an d Number” on page 10.

13 8. Special Function keys : Asterisk/Shift key-e nters the [ * ] character for calling features . In text mode, press to change the character input type. Pound/Space key-enters the pound [ # ] character for calling features. In tex t entry mode, press to enter a space between characters.

15 Main Display Layout The display has 3 areas: Icons Shows the received signal strength. The greater the number of bars, the stronger the signal. Displays the level of your batte ry . The more bars you see, the more power you have remaining. Displays when the phone is a ccessing services in a GPRS network.
Understanding Y our Phone 16 Note: The default phone profile is Normal, the profile is editable and the displayed icons may vary according to the setting. Displays when the phone is set to Mute. Displays when your incoming phone call s are being forwarded to another number .
17 Selecting Functions and Options Y our phone offers a set of functi ons that can be customized for your ease and specific needs. These functions are arranged in menus and sub-menus, accessed u s ing the two soft keys. Each menu and sub-menu allows you to view and alter the settings of a particular functio n.
Understanding Y our Phone 18 When you access a list of opti ons, your phone highlights the currently active opt ion. If, however , there are onl y two options, such as On/Off or Enable/Disable , your phone highlights the option that is not currently acti ve, so that you can select it directly .
19 Left Soft Key Some functi ons of the left soft ke y are as follows. • In the Idle screen , press the Options (left) soft key to open the My Menu screen. See ‘Selecting Functions and Op tions” on page 17. When in a menu mode, the left soft k ey function is Select .
Understanding Y our Phone 20 Na vigation K ey Use the directio nal keys on the Navigat ion key to bro wse menus, sub menus, and lists. Press the Up or Down Navigation keys when jumping to highlighted links on the web. Each key also ac ts as a shortcut to launch applications from the Idle screen.
21 Section 3: Call Functions This section describes how to make or answer a ca ll. It also includes the features and function ality associated with ma king or answering a call. Making a Call When the Idle screen displays, enter the a rea code and phone number , and press the key.
Call Functions 22 Dial ing a Nu mber From th e Recent Call s Menu All incoming, o utgoing and missed ca lls are listed in the Recent Calls Menu. If the caller is liste d in your Address Book, the name associated displays. T o acce ss the Recent Calls menu: 1.
23 Video Share The Video Share featur es allows you to place a call and share live or recorded video while o n the call. Y ou can initiate or rec eive video by using the following steps. Initiating an d Rece i ving a Video Share Se ssion T o initiate and receive a Video Share session: 1.
Call Functions 24 Tip: T o stop the video share call press the Options soft key and press the Select the “ Video Share End ” soft key . 9. A pop-up message displays “ V ideo Sharing has been Stopped. Save the Recorded V ideo? ” If accepted, the recorded vid eos are stored in the My Stuff ➔ Vid eo folder .
25 Recent Calls All incoming, out going and missed calls are li sted in the Recent Calls Menu. If a number is associated with a name in your Address Book, the asso ciated name displays. T o ac cess the Recent Calls menu: 1. In Idle mode, press the key .
Call Functions 26 Viewing the Details of a M issed Calls T o view the details of a select ed missed call, use the following steps: 1. Press the Vie w soft key . The most recently missed call displays. 2. Scroll through the li st of missed calls. 3. With the missed call selected, press the Options soft key .
27 Deleting a Missed Call T o delete a missed call entr y: 1. Immediately after mis sing a call, press the Vie w soft key . 2. Press the Options soft ke y. Use the Navigation keys to select Delete and press the Select soft ke y or the key . 3. Select the items to delete: • Selected : This opti on allows you to d elete only select ed call entries.
Call Functions 28 Options During a Call Y our phone provides a number of control functions that you can use during a call. Adjusting the Call V olume During a call, if you wa nt to adjust the ear piece v olume, use the Volume keys on the left side of the phone.
29 • The curre nt call (caller #2) is pl aced on hold and th e previous call on hold (caller #1) is reactiva ted so you can continue convers ing with that person. 2. Press the key to end th e currently active call. T o end a specific call: 1. Press the Options soft key .
Call Functions 30 Using the Spe akerphone During an Activ e Call While in an ac tive call, it is possibl e to enable the speakerp hone feature. 1. Dial the nu mber a nd press the key . 2. Press the key to activate th e speakerphone when the call is answer ed.
31 Searchi ng for a Number i n Ad dres s Book Y ou can search for a number from the Address Book during a call. 1. Press the Options soft ke y. Use the Navigation keys to highlight Address Book and press the Select soft key or the key . 2. Highlight the Address Bo ok entry by using the Up or Dow n Navigati on key .
Call Functions 32 3-Way C alling (Multi-Par ty Calling) The 3-Way or Multi-Party feature allows you to answer a series of incoming calls a nd place them on hold. If this ser vice is supported by the network, all call s can be joined together . Y ou are notified of an incoming call by a call w aiting tone.
33 Section 4: Menu Naviga tion This section explains the men u na vi gation for yo ur phone. It also includes an outline of all the a vailable menus associa ted with your phone. Some menu optio ns are controlled by the SIM provided by your servic e provider .
Menu Navigation 34 1. In Idle mode, press the Menu . 2. Press the key for Settings . 3. Press the key for Phone 4. Press the key for Languag e . 5. Press the key to display the li st of available languages.
35 Section 5: Entering T e xt This section outlines ho w to select the desi red text input mode when entering characters into yo ur phone. This sec tion also describes how to use the T9 pred ictive text entr y system to reduce the amount of key strokes associated with entering text.
Entering T ext 36 Changing the T ext Input Mode When you are in a fiel d that holds charact ers (such as in a text message), the text input mode indicator disp lays. Use the following steps to change the text input mode: 1. T o change the text inp ut mode, press the key .
37 4. When the word displays co rrectly , go to step 5. If the word doesn’t display correctly , press the key to display alternativ e word choices. Example: Both “Of” and “Me” use the and keys. The phone displays the most commonly used choice first.
Entering T ext 38 Ke y s Using the Symbols Input Method The Symbol input method enabl es you to insert symbols and punctuation marks into text. 1. T o enter symbol mode press and hold the key . 2. Use the Navigati on keys to select an on screen symbol group.
39 Section 6: Understanding Y our Address Book This section allows you to manage your daily contacts by storing their name and number in your Address Book.

41 Note: The Save New Con tacts to setting must be set to Phone to automatically store numbers in the phone’ s memory. 2. Select the type of entr y , either a New contact or Update to an existing contact.
Understanding Y our Address Book 42 does not support additional fields on the SIM card, this additional information may not be available. 1. In Idle mode, enter the phone number . 2. Press the Options soft key an d select the Save to Address Book option.
43 2. Press the Up or Down Navigation ke y to find other numbers on the list. 3. Press the Call soft key , the key , or the key when you select the number to call. Group Settings Editing a Caller Group 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Address Book ➔ Group and press the Select soft key or the key.

45 3. Press the Right Navigation key , select one of the fo llowing options and press the Select soft key or the k ey . • Number : allows you to ente r a number to add to the Re ject List. • Address Book : allows you to sel ect a contact from the Address Book to th e Reject List.
Understanding Y our Address Book 46 Addr ess Book Settings Using the Address Bo ok you can create a business card, determine where to save new contacts, view all the contacts, find your phone number , use the FDN li st to restrict phone access, and view the space used and available.
47 Y ou can assign a name to each of your own phone numbers registered on your SIM card. Y ou can also edit the names and numbers. Any changes made here do not in any way affect the actual subscriber numbers on y our SIM card. 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Settings ➔ Phone Information and press the Select soft key or the key.
Understanding Y our Address Book 48 Used Space is listed f o r the following units: • Phone : tells you how ma ny Address Book entries (out of a possible 1000) are in use. • SIM Card : tells you how many entries are in use on your SIM card (out of a possible 250, depe nding on your SIM card).
49 Copying Con tacts from the SIM Card to the Phone 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Address Book ➔ SIM Management ➔ Copy Contacts from SIM , and press th e Select soft key or the key . Note: Only the contacts currently stored on the SIM card display.
Push to T alk 50 Section 7: Push to T alk This section describe s the Push to T alk (PTT) fea ture which allows you to contact your family , friends, and co-workers (also using PTT) instantly . Initializing Push to T alk Ser vice 1. From t he Idle screen, press the Push to T alk (PTT) key .
51 PTT Contact Av ailability This section covers the icons whic h appear next to individuals and groups in your PTT Contacts li st indicating thei r availability . Individuals Unavailable : This becomes your avai labi lity state if you power-off your phon e, turn PTT off, or if the system detects you have move d out of coverage.
Push to T alk 52 Group s Add Contact Note: The maximum numb er of contacts is 99. 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Push to T alk (PTT) ➔ Add Contact and press Select soft key or the key . 2. Select Add Con tact then press the Select soft key or the key .
53 4. The handset sends an invitation to the ne w contact and the Invitation In Prog ress icon displays. 5. An invite response pop-up di splays informing you that an invitation was sent to the new contact. Viewing Push T o T alk Contacts 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Push to T alk (PTT) ➔ PTT Contacts .
Push to T alk 54 PTT Group Opti ons 1. Press the PTT key . The PTT Contacts list displays on the screen. -Or - Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Push to T alk (PTT) ➔ Add Group and press th e Select soft key or the key.
55 Note: When the call completes, “Quick Group Call” displays in your PTT Call Log. Although this call is logged with your other PTT calls a call can not be placed to this entry. 6. Press the key to return to Idle mode. Dynamic Ca ll The Dynamic Call option allo ws you to make a call with onl y select members of your group.
Push to T alk 56 2. Enter a name for the group in the Enter Name field an d press the OK soft key or th e key . The followi ng options display: • Select in Contacts : allows you to choose fr om current contacts in your P TT Contact s phonebook. Tip: Press the key to place a check mark displays beside each contact to be added to the new group.
57 Deleting a Mem ber from a Group Note: When deleting a member from a group, the deleted member receives a PTT Message that they were deleted. 1. Press the PTT key . The PTT Contacts list displays on the screen. 2. Highlight the desired grou p and press the key .
Push to T alk 58 Alternatively , select the indi vidual or group you want to call. Make sure an available icon is displayed beside the individual or group. 2. Press and hold the PTT key to initiate the call and begin speaking after the tone. Release the PTT key when y ou are done speaking.
59 PTT Settings 1. In Idle mod e, press Menu ➔ PTT and press the Select soft key or the key . 2. Select PTT Settings and press the Select soft key or the key . Choose from the foll owing options: • My A vailability : this optio n allows you to change your Av ailability status.
Push to T alk 60 Pe nding Invitations This menu displays the unanswered contact list invitation. Y ou can accept or reject th e pending invitation late r . If you accept or reject a pending invitat ion, the invitatio n is removed from the Pending invitati on list.
61 Section 8: Messaging This section describes how to send or receive diffe rent types of messages. It al so includes the features and functi onality associated with messaging.
Messaging 62 – Record Audio : allows you to tem porarily exit the message, record an audio clip using the phone’ s microphone, and then add the new a udio clip to your mess age. – Record V ideo : allows you to tem porarily exit the message, reco rd a video clip using th e phone’ s camera, and then add the new video clip to your message.
63 • Back : prompts you to save your me ssage to the Draf ts folder , closes your message, and returns you to the previo us menu or to Idle m ode. 4. Press the Send T o soft key . The Recipients screen displays. Note: A multimedia message should only be sent to a phone that can support the receipt and display of this message type.
Messaging 64 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Messaging ➔ Create New Message and press the Select soft key or the key. 2. In the text field, begin creating your text message. 3. Press the Options soft key , select Add Items, then press the Right Navigation ke y.
65 The following icon s indicate the message type. 2. Press the Vie w soft key (in the case of V oicemail, the soft key displays Dial , and di als your Voicemail) or t he key . The Messaging , Recent Calls , or Voice Mail screens display with th e details of the incoming c ommunication.

Press the Options soft key , highlight Properties , a nd pre ss the Select soft key or the key to view brief information about the message, such as the sender’ s number , the message si ze, and the subject. If you want to view the messa ge later in the Inbox, press the Back soft key .
67 Note: When storing an Address Book entr y into the SIM card, onl y the Name, Number , Group, and Slot loca tion display initially. T o save additional information for a particular contact, such as other phone numbers, or e-mail, it is important to add new fields to that Contact information.
Messaging 68 Signing into Y our IM Account Although eac h acco unt type differs, the initia l sign in procedure is common to all supported types. Before be ginning the sign in procedure, you must complete the previous proc edures for selecting your defa ult IM Community .
69 Drafts This message box stores unsent me ssages that you want to edit or send later . 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Messaging ➔ Drafts and press the Select soft key or the key. My F older My Folder allows you to or gani ze and save messa ges. Y ou can create custom folders and save your messages to these folders for access at a la ter time.
Messaging 70 • Outbox : allows you select the your Outbox folder and mark its files for deletion. • Drafts : allow s you sele ct the your D rafts folder and mark its files for deletion . • My Folder : allows you select the your My Fold er and mark its files for deletion.
71 – Request Delivery Report : when this option is enabled, the network informs you whethe r or not your message was delivere d. – Request Read Report : when this option is enabled, your ph one sends a request for a reply along with your message to the recipient.
Messaging 72 V oic e Mail The following opti ons are available: • Voicem ail : you can specify the default pho ne number used for access of phone’ s remote voicemail. Import ant!: Changing the Voicemail number can affect your ability to access your voicemail.

MEdia Net and WAP 7 4 Section 9: MEdia Net and WAP Y our phone is equi pped with a WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) browser which al lows you to access the Internet. This section explains how to access the WAP services of your ser vice provider and navigate the WA P browser .
75 – Edit Categories : allows you to ed it those category entries which appear on the MEdia N et homepage. Although the first four entr ies (WHA T’S HOT , T ones, Games, Pics, and Cellular Vid eo) cannot be removed, the remaining en tries can be toggled on or off.
MEdia Net and WAP 7 6 Entering T ext in the WAP Browse r When you are prompted to enter te xt, the currentl y active text input mode is indica ted on the screen. The following mo des are availa ble: • Upper -Case Al phabet Mode (A) : allows you to enter upper -case characters.
77 • Enter URL : allows you to manually enter the URL address of a W AP site. After entering an address, press the Go to soft key to go there directly . • Copy URL to Message : send the URL of the current page to another party as a message. • Save : saves either the image of the current web page or the current page itself.
MEdia Net and WAP 7 8 Stori ng a URL Addr ess a s a Fav or ite 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ MEdia Net and press t he Select soft key or the key. 2. Select Enter URL and press the Select soft key o r the key . 3. Enter the URL addres s and press the Down Navigation key .
79 4. Select Delete and press the Ri ght Navigation key . 5. Highlight Selected or All and press the Select soft key or the key . 6. Press the Ye s soft key or the key to conf irm the deletion. 7. Press the key to return to Idle mode. Sav ed Pages The Saved Pages option allows yo u to view the pages from URLs that you saved.
MEdia Net and WAP 8 0 Emptying the Coo kies A cookie is a small f ile which is placed on your phone by a web site during navigation. In addition to containing some site-specific informat ion, it can also co ntain some personal information (suc h as a username and password) which can pose a securit y risk if not properl y ma naged.
81 3. Use the Up or Down Navigation key t o highlight one of these optio ns: • MEdia Net • AT & T M M S • AT & T I M S 4. Press the Options soft key . Important!: The WAPs are pre-configured and cannot be altered on this screen. The MMS connection option can be edited, renamed, or deleted.
MEdia Net and WAP 8 2 – Server 1/Ser ver 2 : enter the Domain Name Server (DNS) addresses. – T raffic Class : select the traffic class. Note: The WAP settings may vary depending on the service provider .
83 Section 10: MEdia Mall The MEdia Mall topics covered in this section are shopping for T ones, Games, Gra phics, Multimed ia, Applica tions, and Vi deos as well as accessing the MEdia Home site. Shop T ones The Shop T ones menu option allo ws you to shop for audio tones using the built-in browser .
MEdia Mall 84 Shop Graphics The Shop Graphics menu option allows you to shop for graphic images using the built-in browser . Y ou can download new images to your Graphics folder . T o access this menu option, use the following steps: 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ MEdia Mall and press the Select soft key or the key.
85 Shop Applications The Shop Applications menu option allo ws you to shop for application files using the built-i n browser . Y ou can do wnloa d the new applicatio ns to your Games and Apps folder . T o access this menu option, use the following steps: 1.
MEdia Mall 86 Acce ssin g the ME dia Ne t Hom e The MEdia Net menu option allows you to quickly access your MEdia Net homepage using the bui lt-in browser . This page gives you quick access to in formation such as local weather , sports scores, horoscope informa tion an d quick links to the previously mentioned shopping sites.
87 Section 11: My Stuff This section inc ludes informa tion on both on-board applications (such as camera, camcorder , cale ndar , and alarms) as we ll as applications tha t are purchased via the MEdia Mall.
My Stuff 88 Games and Apps The Games and Apps menu option allows you to shop games using the WA P bro wser . Y ou can download new , and save to the My Games and Apps folder . T o access the Games and Apps menu option, use the following steps: 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ My Stuff ➔ Games and Apps and pre ss the Select soft key or the key.
89 Selecting and U sing the Graphics Folder If you enter the Graphics fold er through menu options, and press the Options soft key before selecting an exis ting graphic, the following options l ist: • Download : allows you to download a graphic from MEdia Mall.
My Stuff 90 in the Graphics folder found within the My Stuff (Phone) location. These images can be used as wallpapers or included into mult imedia messages. 3. Select an image ent r y and press the key . 4. When you are read y to purchase the i mage, press the Buy Now button to complete the transaction.

My Stuff 92 Photo size : allows you to set the si ze of the re sulting photo. Options are: • 1280x960 (results in a 1.3M size) • 640x480 • 320x240 White Balance : allows you to set the white balance for the camera. Choose Auto , Daylight , Incandescent , Fluorescent , or Cloudy .
93 Camera Options afte r T aking a Photo After you ha ve taken a photo, yo u can use various options by pressing the Options soft key . Highlight an option and press the key . The followin g options are a vailable: • T ake photo : allows you to go back to the camera a nd take another photo.
My Stuff 94 Editing a Phot o Once you have selected and loade d a photo, the following options are availa ble for editing and manage ment of the photo. • Zoom : allows you to zoom in on the image or zoom out. • Send : allows you to attach the graphic to a message, send it to a Bluetooth device, or send it to HP’ s Sna pfish ® .
95 Using the Camcorder Shooting Vide o Tip: When shooting video in d irect sunlight or in b right conditions, it is recommended tha t you provide y our subject with sufficien t light by havi ng the light source behind y ou. 1. In Idle mode, press the Options soft key to ope n the My Menu screen.
My Stuff 96 White Balance : allows you to set the white balance for the camcorder . Ch oose Auto , Daylight , Inca ndescent , Fluorescent , or Cloudy . Effects : allows y ou to choose a custo m color tone for your video clip. Choose from t he follow ing: • No Effects : a utomatically adjust the vid eo for the best quality avai lable.
97 Camcorder Options afte r a Video is T aken After you have shot a video, press the Options soft key to select various options. Highlight an op tion and press the key . The followi ng options are a vailable: • Record video : allows you to record another video c lip.
My Stuff 98 Once the vide o completes playing , or you select the Stop option , the follo wing opti ons are availa ble: • Play : allows you to replay the video c lip. • Send via : allows you to send the video c lip via a multimedia mes sa ge or a Bluetooth device.
99 • Set as : all ows you to set the audio f ile as a call ringto ne, a r ingtone for a speci fic caller, or an alarm tone. • Delete : allows you to delete th e memo.
