Getting Started 5 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section explains how to start using your phone by first configuring your hardware, activa ting your service, and then setting up your voice mail. Setting Up Y our Phone Prior to use it is necessar y to install both the ba tter y and SIM into their corresponding int ernal compartments.
6 Note: If the card is not inserted correctly , the phone does not detect the SIM card. Re-orient the card back into the slot. Installing the Mem or y Card Y our phone also supports the use of a memor y card (microSD) f or data storage of such th ings as data, music, pictures, and video files.
Getting Started 7 4. Slide the cover in the direction shown while pressing down until you hear a light click (2). Note: Make sure the battery is properly installed before s witching on the phone. Char ging a Battery Y our phone is powered by a rech argeable Li-ion batter y .
8 2. Plug the flat end o f the T ravel Adapter into th e Power/ Accessor y Interface connector an d the other end into a standard AC wall outlet . 3. When charging is finished, remove the flat end from the interface connector jack on the phone .

16 Section 3: Menu Naviga tion This section explains the men u na vi gation for your phone. It also includes an outline of all the a vailable menus associa ted with your phone. Some menu optio ns are controlled by the SIM provided by your servic e provider .
Menu Navigation 17 Using Shortcut Numbers Numbered me nu items, such as menus, sub-menus, and option s can be quickly accessed by us ing their shortcut numbers. In Menu mode, Main Menus can be accessed by pressing the number keys (1 to 0, * and #) co rrespondin g to their location on the screen.
18 Section 4: Entering T ext This section outlines ho w to select the desi red text entry mode when entering characters usin g the Q WERTY ke yboard-style keypad. This section also describes how to use the T9 predictive text entry system to reduce the numb er of key strokes needed to enter text.
Entering T ext 19 Changing the T ext Input Mode The available T ex t Input modes are: Fn ( 123 numeric), Abc , and Symbols (Sym) . Refer to the T ext Input mode in the upper right corner of the screen t o identify the mode. • Abc : activates the default alphabet keys.
20 Section 5: Call Functions This section describes how to make or answer a ca ll. It also includes the features and function ality as sociated with maki ng or answering a call. Call Functions 23 When you have an ac tive call and a call on hold, yo u may switch between the two calls, changi ng the one on hold to acti ve and placing the other on hold. T o switch between t wo calls: 䊳 Press Options ➔ Swap . T o end a specific call: 䊳 Press to end the current call.
24 If you are enga ged in a call, you can plac e the active call on hold by selecting the New Call option and either diali ng another number or answering another in coming call. Once the second call is activa ted, the follo wing options are a vailable: • Swap : Places the active call o n hold and then re-activates the call on hold.

Highlight the Ringtone Volume field and press Change . 9. Use the Left or Right navigation key to adjust the volume level (range is 1-7).

32 Note: Light settings can affect the length of time before battery recharge is necessary. – Brightness : allows you to adjust th e display brightness for the LCD t o see it better in differen t lighting conditions. Press the Lef t or Ri g ht Navigation keys to adjust the brightness.
Changing Y our Settings 33 4. Highlight the Daylight Saving checkbox and press Check if Daylight Saving time applies. Note: The Time Zon e field does not display when Time Zone Updating is set to Automatic . 5. Select the Time field and enter the time in the f ollowing format: HH/MM.
34 Shor tcuts The Shortcuts op tion allows yo u to change the applicat ions assigned to your Navigation keys. 1. In Idle mode, select Menu ➔ Settings ➔ Phone ➔ Shortcuts . 2. Use the Navigation ke ys to se lect the Up, Down, Right, or Left key .
Changing Y our Settings 35 Lock Phone When the Lock Phone feature is enabl e d, the phone is locke d and you must enter the 4- to 8-digit phone password each time the phone is powered on. Note: Y ou are prompted to create a password the first time this feature is enabled.
36 The applications options are: – All – IM – Messaging – Recen t Calls – My Stuff – Calendar – Ta s k s – Notes – Address Book Set FDN Mode FDN (Fixed Dial Number) mode, if supported by yo ur SIM card, allows you to restrict the outgoing calls to a limited set of phone numbers.
Changing Y our Settings 37 APN Co ntrol Allows you to turn control of Acc ess Point Names (APN) On or Off . APNs are a method by which you can access advanced communication using your handset. This adv a nced communication can in clude instant messa ging, multimedia messaging, email, and internet access.
38 Airplane Mode Airplane Mode allows yo u to use many of your phone’ s features, such as Games, Voice notes, and more, when you are in an airplane or in an y other area where making or rec eiving calls or data transmission is prohibited. When your phone is in Airplane Mode, it cannot send or receiv e any call s or access online information.
Changing Y our Settings 39 – Call Connect T one : allows you to ac tivate an alert tone which sounds every time a call is connected. – Minute Minder : allows you to a ctivate an alert tone which sounds every minute the call is active. • Alerts on C all : activates an alert to ne for new mess ages being received dur ing an active call .
40 Activation T o use the Bluetooth option you m ust first activate it. W hen the Bluetooth is deactiva ted, you cannot send or receive informatio n via Bluetooth. T o save batt ery life or in situations where Bluetooth use is prohibited, you can tu rn off the Bluetooth wireless technology headset.
Changing Y our Settings 41 My Devices The My Devices option provides a list of Blueto oth wireless technology devices discov ered by your handset. 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Settings ➔ Connectivity ➔ Bluetooth ➔ My Devices and press the Select soft key or the key .
42 Search for New De vice This option allows you to sear ch for new Blue tooth devices. 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Settings ➔ Connectivity ➔ Bluetooth ➔ Search for New Device and press the Select soft key or the key . The phone searches for available devi ces.

48 Section 7: Understanding Y our Addr ess Book This section allows you to manage your contac ts by storing their name and number in your Addr ess Book. Y ou ca n sort Address Book entries by na me, entr y , or group. Y ou can also synchronize your phone Address Book with A T&T Address Book, the ne twork backup service.

50 Note: Ringtones assigned to a contact will not be synchronized to A T&T Address Book. Adding More Fields to a Number While in the process of creating a new entr y or editing a n existing contact, you can add additional fields to the entry’ s list of information.

72 Section 10: Mobile Video Y our phone is equipped with a WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) browser which allows yo u to access the Internet and download media f iles directly t o your phone. These media files display using the built-in Media Pl ayer .
Mobile Video 73 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Mobile V ideo ➔ Customize Mobile Video ➔ Edit My Favorites . The screen is composed of two sect ions: • Manage My Favorites: lists the current Favorites list and gives you the option of openin g the page or deleting it from you r Favorites .
74 Section 11: Messaging This section describes how to send or receive diffe rent types of messages. It al so includes the features and functi onality associated with messaging.
Messaging 75 • Groups : to select a recipien t from the Group l ist. • Recent Contacts : to select a recipient from a list of recentl y sent messages. 3. Select the message field and use the QW ERTY keypad to enter a message. For more information, refer to “Entering Te x t ” on page 18.
76 Using Message Options Message options at the Inbox level diffe r according to the message type, what you have done with the messa ge, and whether you are viewing the message. 䊳 While viewing the list of me ssages highlight a message and press the Options soft key to ac cess the following: •V i e w : allows you to view the message.
Messaging 77 Deleting Messages When your phon e’s me mor y is full, an not ification m essage displays and you cannot receiv e any new messages. Use the Delete option to eras e obsolete messages, freeing m emory for new messages. Y ou can delete th e messa ges eith er individually or all at one time.
78 R eceiving Options This option specifies the catego ry of messages you want to receive and allo ws you to set the f ollowing: • Send Deliver y Report : when this option is enabled, the phon e informs the network whether or not your message was rece ived.

82 Shop Applicat ions 1. Press Menu ➔ My Stuff ➔ Applications ➔ Shop Applications to launch AppCenter . 2. Foll ow the on-screen instruct ions to purchase t he new application. The file is do wnloaded and stored in the Applications folder . 3. T o access a new appli cation, press t he entry from the available list.
AppCenter 83 Section 13: AppCenter The AppCenter allows you to shop for Ringtones, Games, Cool T ools/A pps, Videos, Color Graphi cs, Themes, and Answer T ones using the built-in browser . 84 The me s This menu option allows you t o shop for new themes so you can customize your phone. 1. Press Menu ➔ AppCenter ➔ Color Graphics . 2. Foll ow the on-screen instruct ions to purchase a theme. Answ er T ones This menu option allows you to shop for answer tones using the built-in browser .
A T&T Music 85 Section 14: A T&T Music A T&T Music is a music ser vice which provides you access to Music Player , Shop Music, MusicID 2, XM Radio, Music Videos, Community , and Music Applications. Note: The Music Player does not necessarily support all features of a particular file format nor all the variations of those formats.
