4 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section describes how to start using your phone by activating your ser vice and setting up your voice mail. Activating Y our Phone When you subscribe to a cellular network, a plug-in SIM card is provided with your subscription details, such as your PIN and other optional ser vices.
Getting Started 5 Inst alli ng the SIM Car d Import ant!: The plug-in SIM card and its contacts can be easily damaged by scratches or bending. Use caution when inserting or removing the card and keep all SIM cards out of reach of children.
6 3. With the batter y in position on the phone , place the cover back on the hands et (1) and slide it in until it c licks (2). Charging a Batter y Y our phone is powered by a rechar geable Li-ion battery . Use the travel adaptor to charge the batter y , and use only Samsung approved batteries and chargers.
Getting Started 7 Note: When the travel adaptor is plugged in, the charging indicator may not appear for a few minutes, however the batter y is charging properly . Warn ing!: If your handset has a touch screen display , please note that a touch screen responds best to a light touch from the pad of your finger or a non-metallic stylus.

12 Selecting Functions and Options Y our phone offers a set of f uncti ons that can be customized for your ease and specific needs. These functions are arranged in menus and sub-menus, accessed u sing the two soft keys. Each menu and sub-menu allows you to view and alter the settings of a particular functio n.
Understanding Y our Phon e 13 • T o move back up one level in the menu structure, press the Back soft key or the C key . • T o exit the menu structure without changing the settings, press the key . Command K eys Functions for the soft keys are defined by what appears above each in the di splay .
14 Send K ey The Send key is used to answer calls, dial calls, and to recall the last num ber(s) dialed, receiv ed, or missed. • Press and hold the Send key to turn on your phone. • Press once to answer calls. • Enter a number and briefly press to make a call.

18 Adjusting the Call V olume During a call , if you want to adjust the ea rpiece volume, use the Up or Down Navigati on keys. Answ ering a Call When a call is received, the pho ne rings and dis plays the caller ’ s phone number , or name, if st ored in the Address Bo ok.
Call Functions 19 Viewing Missed Calls The number of calls you have miss ed display s on the Idle scre en when a call is misse d. T o vi ew the number de tails, use the following steps: 1. If the phone is close d, open the phone. 2. Press the Vie w soft key .
20 Data V olume 1. From the Idle Screen, press Menu ➔ Recent Calls ➔ Data Volume and press th e Select soft key or the key . 2. Use the Up and Down navigation ke ys to view the following info rmation: • Last Sent Data : shows the size of data sent last .
Call Functions 21 Putting a Call on Hold Y ou can pl ace the current call on hold whenever you want. Y ou can also make anothe r call while you ha ve a call in progress if your network supports this service. T o put a call on hold: 1. While on a call, press the left sof t key Options .
22 Switchin g off the Microphone (M ute) Y ou can temporarily switch your phone’ s microphone off, so that the other person cannot hear you. Example: Y ou wish to say something to a person in the room, but do not want the person on the phone to hear you.

24 Section 5: Entering T e xt This section outlines ho w to select the desi red text input mode when entering characters into yo ur phone. This sec tion also describes how to use the T9 pred ictive text entr y system to reduce the amount of key strokes associated with entering text.
Entering T ext 25 Mode Indicator When you are in a te xt entry f ield, the text input mode indicator displays. Changing T ext Input Mode 1. Press the key. 2. Choose from th e following opti ons: • A long press of th e key to ggles betwee n ABC mo de and T9 mode.
26 4. If the word does no t display correctly , press the key to display alternative word choices for the keys pressed. Example: Both “Of” and “Me” have the and keys. The phone displays the most commonly used choice first. 5. Insert a space by pressing the key and enter the next word.
Entering T ext 27 Ke y s Entering Symbols Symbol mode enables you to insert symbols and punctuation marks into text. 1. T o enter symbol mode press and hold the key . 2. T o select a symbol, press the corresponding number key . 3. T o display more sy mbols, press the Up or Down navigation key .
28 Section 6: Messaging This section describes how to send or receive diffe rent types of messages. It al so includes the features and functi onality associated with messaging.
Messaging 29 • Input Mode : allows you to change the input mode for you r text message. •B a c k : returns to the Messaging me nu with the option to save the message to the Drafts f older . 5. Press the Send T o soft key and enter the recipient information.
30 9. When you have finished composing your Multimedia Message, press the Send T o soft key and ente r the recipient informatio n. Y ou can press Options ➔ Contact List to find the recipie nt if it is in your Contact List. 10. Press the Send soft key to se nd the message.
Messaging 31 With a multim edia message hig hlighted in th e Inbox, press th e Options soft key to access the f ollowing options : • Vi ew : allows you to view the message. • Reply via : allows you to reply to this mess age via T ext Message or Multimedia Message.
32 3. Select the message folders yo u want to empty by using the Navigation keys to highlight the folder and press the Select soft key or the ke y to mark the folder for deletion. Note: T o delete all of the messa ges in all folders, select All Messages .

Agree to the term s and conditions of use for this service and pre ss the I Accept soft key or th e key . 7. Follow the on-screen instru ctions to read, reply to, compose, send, and ma nage your Instant Messaging account.
34 Message Settings Y ou can set up vario us options for using messaging services. 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Messaging ➔ Messaging Settings . 2. Press the Select soft key or the key . • T ext Message : – Send Settings : allows you to set the options for sending text messages.
Messaging 35 Used Space The Used Space option display s th e memory used for various types of message s displayed as well as the a vailable o r remaining memor y . 1. When the Idle screen displays, press Menu ➔ Messaging ➔ Used Space , and press the Select soft key or the key .
36 Section 7: Understanding Y our Address Book This section allows you to manage your daily contacts by storing their name and number in your Address Book. Addres s Book entries can be sorted by name, or entry . Using Contact List Tip: From the Idle screen, press the Down Navigation key to access the Contact List.

40 Deleting Speed Dial Entries 1. When the Idle screen displays, press Menu ➔ Addres s Book ➔ Speed Dial List and then press the Up or Down navigation key to highlight th e entry you wish t o Delete. 2. Press the Options soft key . 3. Highlight Remove .

42 4. The Copy Successful screen displays. Press the OK soft key . 5. Press the key to return to the Idle sc reen. Copy an en tr y to t he Phone Y ou can copy a SIM entry to the Phone b y using the Duplicate option. When you copy entries to the phone, duplicate entries are created.

44 Sound Settings This list describes the sou nd settings for the following categories (tabs): • Call : – Call Alert T ype : allows you to select the way in which the se lected ringtone is played w hen a call comes in o n the phone. • Melody : the phone sounds the se lected melo dy .

46 Idle Screen Display • Te x t p o s i t i o n : allows you to select the position of the te xt displayed in Idle mode . – Press the Left or Right navigation keys to m ake your selection . Choose from To p , Bottom , or Off . – Press the Save soft key or the key to make your selection.
Changing Y our Settings 47 Time & Date This menu allows you to change the current time and date displayed. Y ou can also find out what time it is in another part of the world. Note: Before setting the time, you must specify your time zone in the World time menu.
48 Langua ge Y ou can select a displ ay language. When the language option is set to Automatic , the language is automaticall y selected according to the language of the SIM card used. Depending on your countr y , service provider , or the software version of the phone, the Auto ma tic option may not display .
Changing Y our Settings 49 Loc k SIM Card When the SIM Lock feature is enab led, your phone only works with the current SIM. Y ou must ente r the SIM lock code to unl ock the SIM so you can use a differen t SIM card. The first time you access this featu re, you will be prompted to enter a new password.
50 Set FDN Mode FDN (Fixed Dialing Number) mode, if supported by you r SIM card, restricts your outgoing calls to a limited set of phone numbers. When this feature is enabled, you ca n make calls only to phone numbers stored in the FDN list on the SIM card.
Changing Y our Settings 51 Re store Phone The Restore Phone optio n allows you to reset your phone to its default settings and de lete all user data. 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Settings ➔ Phone ➔ Restore Phone and press the Select soft key or the key .
52 3. Press the Up or Down key until t he network you wa nt highlights and then press the Select soft key or the key . The phone scans for that network and you are connected. Calls 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Settings ➔ Calls and press the Select soft key or the key.

54 Call Waiting This network service informs yo u when someone is trying to reach you during another call. Y ou can specify individual call wa iting opti ons for voice calls or data calls. T o set your call wait ing options : 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Settings ➔ Calls ➔ Voi c e C a l l ➔ Call Waiting .

56 Calendar Setti ngs Y ou can set up various opti ons for using your Calendar . 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Settings ➔ Applications Settings ➔ Calendar Settings . 2. Choose from the follo wing options: • Starting Day : allows you to choose the week start da te.
T ools 57 Section 9: T ools The T ools menu provides access to and allows you to set Alarms, use the Calendar and features, use the Calculator , use the Tip Calculator , use the Converter (f or currency , length, weight volume, area, and te mperature), set the Timer , use the Stopwatch, and view World T ime.
58 • Alarm Day : Press the key to choos e from the fo llowing options: Ever yday, Once Only , Sunday - Saturday. Use the Up or Down Navigation key to highlight an occurrence of the day(s) you wish your alarm to sound. Press the soft key to select your option.
