6 Section 1 Activating Y our Phone When you subscribe to a cellular network, you are provide d with a plug-in SIM card loaded with your subscription details, su ch as your PIN, any optional services available, and many others.

Make sur e the g old co ntacts of th e card face into the phone. Note: When you need to remove the SIM ca rd, slide it, as show n, and take it out of the socket.

22 Section 3 Making a Call When the idle screen displays, enter the ar ea cod e and phone number , and press the key . Note: When you activate the Auto redial option in the Extra settings menu, the phone will automat ically redia l up to 10 times when the person does not answer the call or is already on the phone.

Adjusting the Call V olume During a call, if you want to adjust the earpiece volume, use the V olume keys on th e left side of the phone.

Note: Y ou can access the call records of incoming, outgoing, and missed calls by pressing the key in Idle m ode. Note: The number of call records the ph one can store may var y , depending on your SIM card.
Section 3: Call Functions 29 Call Records Section 3 The number and name, if already stored in your Phonebook, displays with the time and date the call w as made. Delete all This menu allows you to delete all of the records in each call recor d separately , or you can delete all of your call recor ds at one time.

48 Section 5 Changing the T ext Input Mode When using your ph one, you wi ll often need to enter text, such as when storing a name in Phonebook, creating your personal gree ting or scheduli n g e v e n t s o n y o u r c a l e n d a r . Y ou can enter alphanumeric characters by using your phone’s keypad.

They are physically separate but ar e used as a single entity , called Phonebook. Depending on your particular SIM card, the maximum number of phone numbers the SIM car d can stor e may diffe r .

In addition, your phone supports the Enhanced Messaging Service (EMS ), which enables you to include simple pictur es, melodies, and animated images in your messages.

Section 7: Messaging 73 Picture Messages Section 7 Picture Messages This menu allows you to use the Multim edia Message Service. Picture Messaging is a messag ing service that pr o vides delivery of personal multime dia messages from phone to phone or from phone to e-mail.

Section 7: Messaging 81 Broadcast Messages (SIM Dependent) Section 7 Broadcast Messages (SIM Dependent) This network service allows you to r eceive text messages on various topics, such as the weather or traffic. Please contact y our service provider for further details.
82 Section 7 When you select Uni-code, the maximum number of characters that can be in a message is reduced to approximately half. If your r ecipient’s phone does not support Uni-code characters, he/she may no t be able to read your message corr ectly .
Section 7: Messaging 83 Memory Status Section 7 Memory Status Y ou can check the amount of the memory being used and the memory remaining for multimedia messages. The display shows the total sp ace including the used and free space. Y ou can also view how much space is currently occupied by each message box.

Section 8 86 Sound Settings Y ou can customize various soun d set tings. My MegaT ones This menu allows you to select di ffer ent ringtone melodies that you have downloaded from the Internet. Get More MegaT ones This menu allows you to download dif fe rent ringtone melodies from the Internet.
Section 8: Changing Y our Settings 87 Sound Settings Section 8 • Vibration then melody : t he phone first vibrates 3 times and then starts ringing u sing the ring melody selected in the Ringtone menu. Keypad T one This menu allows you t o select the sound that the phone will make when you press a key .
Section 8 88 • Once : the phone alerts you to a new message just once at the time of receipt. • Per i o di c : the phone alerts you to a new message ever y 2 minutes until you open the message. Picture Message This menu allows you to select how the phone informs you that a new m ultimedia mess age has been r eceived.

The following options ar e available: • Off : the phone doesn’t actively alert you to incoming messages or alarms.

Section 8: Changing Y our Settings 91 Phone Settings Section 8 1. Select the city correspondi ng to your time zone by pressing the Left or Right key one or more times. The local time and da te display . 2. Press the Set soft key or the key . • Set time : allows you to enter the current time.
Section 8 92 • Animations : you can select a backgroun d animation to be displayed on the idle screen. • Get More Wallpapers : you can also select any images downloaded from the Internet, t-zones SM browser , optional EasyGPRS program, or received in messages.
Section 8: Changing Y our Settings 93 Phone Settings Section 8 Select either Main LCD or Front LCD . Press the Up or Down key or press the Vo l u m e keys to adjust the brightness. Dialing Font Color This menu allows you to select the co lor of your dialing font.
Section 8 94 Security The Security feature enabl es you to restrict the use of your phone by others and to restrict the types of calls. V arious codes and passwords are used to pr otect the features of your phone. PIN Check When the PIN Check feature is e nabled, you must enter your PIN each time you switch on the phone.
Section 8: Changing Y our Settings 95 Phone Settings Section 8 The passwor d is preset to “00000000” at the factory . T o change the phone password, see "Change Passwor d" on page 95. Once the correct password has been enter ed, you can use the phone until you switch it off.

Y ou must enter the current PIN2 before you can specify a new one. Once y ou have entered a new PIN2, you ar e asked to confirm it by entering it again.
Section 8 98 Reject soft key . When this option is uncheck ed, you must press the key or Accept soft key to answer a call. Reset Settings Y ou can easily reset your phone to its default settings. The following options ar e available: • Sound settings : you can res et all sound settings to th e default settings.
Section 8: Changing Y our Settings 99 Phone Settings Section 8 Call Forwarding This network service enables incom ing cal ls to be rer outed to the number that you specify . Example: Y ou may wish to forward yo ur business calls to a collea gue while you are on holiday .

Section 8: Changing Y our Settings 101 Phone Settings Section 8 Network Selection The Network Selection feature enables you to automatically or manually se lect the network used when roaming outside of your home ar ea. Note: Y ou can select a network other th an your home network only if ther e is a valid roaming agre ement between the two.
Section 8 102 • Hide number : your number does not display on the other person ’ s phone. • Send number : your number is sent e ach time you make a call. Band Selection This menu option provides th e ability to set the band for your phone. Choose from GSM 850/1900, GSM 1800, or Automatic.

104 Section 9 Alarm This featur e allows you to: • set the alarm to ring at a specific time. • set the phone to switch on automatically and ring the alarm even if the phone is switched off. The following options ar e available: • Wake-up Call : the alarm rings to wake you up in the morning.
