Y our Phone 18 Icons Icon Description Shows the receiv ed signal strength. The greater the number of ba rs, the better the signal. If this icon is gra y , you are outside your network area and are restr icted to emergency calls only . Appears when you are connected to the GPRS network.
Y our Phone 19 Appears when a new v oice mail message is received. Appears when a new multimedia message has been rece ived. Appears when Mute mode is active . Appears when Silent mod e is active or you set the Alert T ype menu ( Menu 6.4 ), so that the phone vibrates when you receiv e a call.
Y our Phone 20 Backlight A backlight illuminates the displa y and the k eypad. When you press an y ke y or open the folder , the backlight turns on. It turns off when no keys are pressed within a giv en period of time, depending on your setting in the Bac k Light men u ( Menu 9.

Getting Star ted 23 Getting Started Installing the SIM Card When you subscribe to a cellular network, y ou are provided with a plug-in SIM card loaded with y our subscription details, such as your PIN, an y optional ser vices av ailab le and many others.
Getting Star ted 24 3. Slide the SIM card into the SIM card sock et so that it loc ks the card into place . Make sure the gold contacts of the card face into the phone . Note: When you need to remo ve the SIM card, slide it , as shown, and take it out of the soc ket.
Getting Star ted 25 4. Replace the ba tter y so that the tabs on the end align with the slots at the bottom of the phone. 5. Press the batt er y until it cl icks into p lace. Mak e sure that th e battery is properly installed before s witchi ng the phone on.
Getting Star ted 26 Y ou can use the phone while the batter y is charging, but this causes the phone to charge more slowly . Note: Y ou must fully charge the battery bef ore using your phone f or the first time. A discharged battery is fully recharge d in approximat ely 200 minutes.

Selecting Functions and Options 37 Selecting Functions and Options Y our phone offers a set of functions that allow y ou to customize y our phone. These functions are arr anged in menus and sub-menus , accessed using the two soft ke ys marked and . Each menu and sub-men u allows y ou to view and alter the settings of a particular function.
Selecting Functions and Options 38 T o view the various functions and options av ailab le and to select the one you w ant: 1. Press the appropriate soft k ey . In some functions, y ou may be ask ed f or a passw ord or PIN. Enter the code and press the OK soft ke y .
Phonebook 39 Phonebook Y ou can store phone numbers and their corresponding names in your SIM card and phone’ s memor ies. The y are ph ysically separate but are used as a single entity , called Phonebook.
Phonebook 40 The maximum length you can enter for a name depends on your S IM ca rd. Note : When you change phones, any num bers stored in your SIM card memory are automatically available w ith the new phone, whereas any numbers stored in the phone’s m emory must be reentered.

Using Phoneboo k Entry Options While accessing any Phonebook entry , press the Options soft ke y to use the options f or the entr y . The f ollowing options are a vailab le: P aste : allows you to paste the number into the nor mal dialing mode.
Phonebook 42 Caller Group : allo ws you to organize y our Phonebook entr y in caller groups so that the phone alerts you in a specific wa y when a person from one of your g roups calls you. Select one of the ten groups av ailab le. T o remov e an entry from a group, select the No Group option.

Entering T ext 49 Entering T ext When using your phone , you often need to enter te xt, such as storing a name in Phonebook, creating your personal greeting or scheduling e vents on y our calendar . Y ou can enter alphanumeric characters b y using your phone’ s ke ypad.
Entering T ext 50 Changing the T ext Input Mode When you are in a field that allo ws characters to be entered, you will notice the te xt input mode indicator on the displa y . Example : Writing a text message T o select Press the soft key until T9 mode displays .
Entering T ext 51 Using T9 Mode T9 is a predictiv e text input mode that allows you to ke y in any char acter using single keystrok es. This te xt input mode is based on a built-in dictionary . T o enter a word in T9 mode: 1. When yo u are in T9 mode , star t entering a word by pressing the to keys .
Entering T ext 52 ♦ T o enter full stops, h yphens or apostrophes, press the key . T9 mode applies grammar rules to ensure that the cor rect punctuation is used. Example : The key is used twice to display two punctuation marks: ♦ T o shift the case in T9 mode, use the ke y .
Entering T ext 53 Using the Upper/Lower-Case Alphabet Mode Use the to ke ys to enter your te xt. 1. Press the ke y labeled with the letter you w ant: - Once for the first letter - T wice f or the second le tter - And so on 2. Select the o ther letters in the same w a y .

Recent Calls 71 Recent Calls In this menu, you can view and edit the: ♦ calls you missed, received or made. ♦ voice mail ♦ length of your calls. Note: Y ou can access the numbers in the three types of call records by pressing the ke y in Idle mode.
Recent Calls 72 Calls Made This menu lets y ou view the last 20 n umbers you dialed. The number and name displa y , together with the date and time when the call w as made. By pressing the Options soft ke y or the key , y ou can: ♦ delete the number .

Messaging 81 messages. The number of setting g roups av ailable depends on the capacity of your SIM card. Note: The last setting you accessed is au tomatically activ ated for sendin g messages. Ser vice Center : allows y ou to store or change the number of your message center , which is required when sending messages.
Messaging 82 Bearer Selection : allows y ou to choose either GSM or GPRS , depending on your network. Character Suppor t : allows y ou to choose a character type from GSM-Alphabet , Uni-Code or A utomatic . If y ou select Uni-Code and you r recipient’ s phone does not suppor t it, your recipient ma y not be ab le to read your message.
Messaging 83 T o delete messages in each message box, use the Delete All option. Broadcast This network ser vice allows you to receiv e text messages on various topics, such as the w eather or traffic. Cell Broadcasting (CB) messages displa y as soon as they are received, pro vided that: ♦ the phone is in Idle mode.
Messaging 84 Language : allo ws you to select y our preferred language to be used when displa ying cell broadcast messages. Please contact your service provider f or more information. Multimedia Messa ges Multimedia Message Service (MMS) is a messaging ser vice very similar to Shor t Message Ser vice (SMS).

Messaging 92 When a confirming message displays, press the Ye s soft ke y to confirm. Memory Status Y ou can check the amount of memor y being used and the memor y remaining for m ultimedia messages. The display sho ws the total space, including the free and used space.
Expiry Date : When this option is selected, you can select the e xpir y time limit you would like the message to displa y . Delivery time : you can set a time dela y bef ore the phone sends your messages . Report Allowed : when this option is enabled, the sender of an incoming message receiv es a delivery repor t from the network.
Messaging 94 User name: User ID required to connect to the MMS ser v er . P asswo rd : P ass word required to connect to the MMS ser v er . APN : Access point name used f or the address of the MMS ser ver . For fur ther details, contact y our ser vice provider .

Messaging 102 Outbox When you select this menu, the list of the e-mails y ou sent or fa iled to send displays along with the e-mail status and subject.
Messaging 103 Edit E-Mail : allows y ou to change the e-mail subject or contents. Add Attachments : enab les you to attach another item to the e-mail. Draft In this menu, you can retrieve th e e-mails you sa ved. When you select this men u, the list of the e-mails you sav ed displa ys.
Messaging 104 • Add Attachments : enables you to attach one of your Phone Book entries, memos stored on y our calendar , photos you took, pictures or sounds. After selecting the file typ e you w ant to add , choose a n item from the list. After adding, press the soft key or the C key to go ba ck to the W rite Option screen.
