G ETTING S TART ED 1.2 Setting Up Your Machine Unpacking Re move the m a chine and all accessories from the packing carton. Mak e sure that the machine has been packed with the f ollowing it ems.

G ETTING S TART ED 1.8 Installing the Toner Cartridge 1 Open the front cover . 2 Remo ve the starter toner cartridge from its bag. Gently roll t he cartridge 5 or 6 times to distribu te the toner evenly inside the cartridge. Thoroughly rolling t he cartridge will assure the maximum copies per cartridge.

T o load a s tack o f Lette r-sized pa per: 1 Pull open the paper tray and remove it from the machine. 2 Push down on the pr essure plat e until it locks into place. 3 F an the edges of the paper stack to separate the pages.
G ETTING S TART ED 1.10 Changing the Paper Size in the Pape r Tray T o load longer sizes of paper , such as Legal-sized paper , you need to adjust the paper guides to extend the paper tray . 1 After pressing and unlatching the guide lock, slide the paper length gu ide o ut co mp letely to exte nd the pa per tr ay to its f ull leng th.
G ETTING S TART ED 1.11 1 Connecting the Telephone Line 1 Plug the tel ephone line cord into t he LINE jack and the other end into the wall jack. 2 T o connect a telephone and/or an swering machine to your machine, plug the cord of your extension phone or answering machine into the EXT jack.

G ETTING S TART ED 1.18 Using the Sav e Modes Toner Save Mode T oner Sa ve mode allows y our machine to use less t oner on e ach pag e . Acti v ating th is m od e ex ten ds t he lif e of the toner ca rtridge long er than normal, but it reduces the print quality .
G ETTING S TART ED 1.19 1 Power Save Mode Pow er Save mode allows yo ur machine to reduce power consumption when it is not i n actual use. Y ou can turn th is mode on by select ing the length of tim e for w hich the m ach ine w aits a fter a job is pr inted before it swi tches to a reduced power state.

B ASIC F UNCTIONS 2.2 Sending a Fax Preparing a Document Usi ng the ADF ( Automat ic Docume nt Feede r), you ca n loa d up to 20 documents ( 47~90 g/m 2 , 12 .5~ 24lb) f or o ne jo b. When y ou use t he ADF: • Do not load do cuments smaller than 142 x 148 mm or larger than 216 x 356 m m.

B ASIC F UNCTIONS 2.5 2 Redialing the Las t Number T o redial the n umber you last called: Press Redial/Pause . If a doc ument is lo aded in th e ADF , the machine automati cally begins to send. Confirming Transmission When the last pa ge of your docum e nt has been se nt successfully , the machine beeps and re turns to Standby Mode.
B ASIC F UNCTIONS 2.6 Receiving a Fax About Receiving Modes •I n Fax mode, the machine a nswers an incoming fax call and immediately goes into the fax reception mode.
B ASIC F UNCTIONS 2.7 2 Receiving Automatically in Fax Mode Y our machine is preset to F ax mode at the factory . If you have cha nged the receiving mode, take the following steps to receive faxes automatically: 1 Press Receiv e Mode . 2 Press and hold Receiv e Mode until “F ax” displays on the bo t tom line.
B ASIC F UNCTIONS 2.8 N OTES : • When you ha ve set your machine to Ans/ F ax mode and your answering machine is switched off or no answer ing machine is connected to the EX T jack, your ma chine automatically goes in to F ax mode after a p redefined number of rings.
B ASIC F UNCTIONS 2.9 2 To s e t u p t h e D R P D m o d e : 1 Press Menu until “F a x Setup” appears on the top line of the display . The first available menu item, “Receive Mode, ” displays on the bot tom line. 2 Press the scroll button ( W or X ) until you see “DRPD Mode” on the bottom line and pr ess Enter .
B ASIC F UNCTIONS 2.10 Making a Copy Loading Paper for Copying The instructions f or loading print materi als into the paper t ra y are the same whether you are faxing or copying.
B ASIC F UNCTIONS 2.11 2 3 Open the rear cover to use the rear outp ut slot. CAUTI ON : • The fusing area inside the rear part of your machine becomes hot once the machine is turned on. Be care ful when you access this area. 4 After copying, close the rear cover .
B ASIC F UNCTIONS 2.12 T o clear the setti ngs, use the Stop/Clear button. 3 Press Start Co py/Fax . Setting Copy Options The buttons on the control panel let you make a ll the basic copy options; darkness, document type, copy size and number of copies.
B ASIC F UNCTIONS 2.13 2 Reduced/Enlarged Copying Using th e Reduce/Enlarge button, you can reduce or enlarge the size of a copied image from 50% t o 150%. T o select from the predefi ned copy sizes: 1 Press Reduce/Enlarge . The default setti ng appears on the bottom line of the display .
B ASIC F UNCTIONS 2.14 N OTE : While you set cop y options, pressing Stop/Clear cancels the changed settings and restores their default status. Sett ing the Time Out Opti on Y ou can set the time the machine wa its befor e it restores t he default copy settings, i f you do not start copying after changing them on t he control panel.
B ASIC F UNCTIONS 2.15 2 Automatic Dialing One-touch Dialing The 20 one-touch butt ons on the con trol panel lets you store frequently- used f ax numb ers an d dial a num ber autom atically w ith a touch of a button . Storing a Number for One-touc h Dialing 1 Press and hold one of the one-touch dial buttons for about 2 seco nds.
B ASIC F UNCTIONS 2.16 Speed Dialing Y ou can store up to 80 freque ntly dialed numbers in one or two-digit speed dial locati ons (0-79). Storing a Number for Speed Dialing 1 Press Phone Bo ok on the co ntrol panel. 2 Press Phone Bo ok or the scroll button ( W or X ) to d ispl ay “Store&Edit” on the bottom lin e of the display .
B ASIC F UNCTIONS 2.17 2 Group Dialing If you frequently send the same document to several destinati ons, you can create a group of these desti nations and set them under a one or two-digit group dial location. Thi s enables you to use a g roup dial number setting to send the same docu ment to all the destinations in the group.
B ASIC F UNCTIONS 2.18 Editing Group Dial Numbers Y ou can delete a specific speed dial number from a selected group or add a new num ber to the selected group. 1 Press Phone Bo ok on the co ntrol panel. 2 Press Phone Bo ok or the scroll button ( W or X ) to d ispl ay “Store&Edit” on the bottom lin e of the display .

A DVANCED F AX 3.2 Sending Broadcasting Faxes Using th e Broadcasting button on the control pane l, you ca n use the broadcasting fax feature, which allows you to send a documen t to multiple locations. Documents are automatically stored in the memory and sent to a remote station.
A DVANCED F AX 3.3 3 3 Press Menu until “F ax Feature” appears on the top line of th e display . The first available menu item, “DelayF ax, ” displays on the bottom line. 4 Press Enter . 5 Enter the number of the remote machine using the number keypad.
A DVANCED F AX 3.4 Se ndin g a Pr ior ity Fa x Using the Priority F ax feature, a high pr iority document can be sent ahea d of reserved operations. The document is scanned into the memory and transmitted when the current operation is finished. In addit ion, the priority transmission interrupts a broadcast operation between stations (i.

A DDITIONAL F EATU RES 4.2 Using Secure Rece iving Mode Y ou may need to prevent your recei ved faxes from being accessed by unauthorized people. Y ou can turn on Se cure R eceiving mode to restrict printi ng out all of the received faxes when the machine is unatte nded.
A DDITIONAL F EATU RES 4.3 4 5 T o return to Standby mode, press Stop/Clear . Printing Report s Y our m achine can print reports containing usefu l information. If the line quality is poor , it takes more tim e to s end a fa x when you are usi ng th e ECM.

M AINTENANCE 5.2 Clearing the M emory Y ou can selectively clear information stored in your m a chine’ s memory . 1 Press Menu on t he co ntr ol pa nel unti l “ Main te nanc e” ap pea rs on t he top line of the display . 2 Press the scroll button ( W or X ) until you se e “Clear M emory” on the bottom line and press Enter .
M AI NTEN AN CE 5.3 5 Adjusting Shading When the scan un i t becomes dirty , it can alter the shading value. If you r copy has black lines or is blurred, adjust the shading setting. 1 Load a sheet of white paper in to the ADF . 2 Press Menu on t he co ntr ol pa nel unti l “ Main te nanc e” ap pea rs on t he top line of the display .

M AI NTEN AN CE 5.5 5 3 Disassemble the white roller as fol lows: The right end of the white roller has a plastic bushing that is snapped shut with small tab on it. Pull the bush ing sl igh tly i nw ard, th en rota te the bushing until it reach a slot (1).
M AINTENANCE 5.6 Maintaining the Toner Cartridge Toner C artridge S torage T o get the most from the toner cartri dge, keep the following guidelin es in mi nd: • Do not remo ve the ton er cartrid ge fro m its pack age until read y for use. • Do not refill th e toner c art ridge .
M AI NTEN AN CE 5.7 5 Repl aci ng the To ner Cartr idge When the toner eventually runs out, only blank pages print when a print job is sent or when a fax is received. At this stage, the toner car tridge needs to be replaced. The di splay on the control panel shows the warning message, “T oner Empty” a nd the machine stop s printing.
M AINTENANCE 5.8 4 When the display asks you to confirm your selection, pr ess Enter . The machine prints a cleaning page. T oner particles on the drum surface are affixed to the paper .

T ROUBLES HOOTING 6.2 Clearing Docu ment Jams When a document jams while it passes through the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder), “Document Jam” appears on the display . Input Misfeed 1 Re move the rem a ining do cume nts from the ADF . 2 Pull the jammed document gently out of the ADF .
T ROUBLESHOOT ING 6.3 6 Clearing Paper Jams When a paper jam occurs, “Pa per Jam” appears on the display . R efer to the table below to locate and clear the paper jam. T o avoid tearing the paper , pull the jammed paper out gently and slowly . Follow the steps on the next pages to clear the jam.
T ROUBLES HOOTING 6.4 2 Gently pull the paper out of the front output tra y . Skip to step 6. If there is any resista nce and the paper does not mov e wh en you pull or if you cannot see the paper in the front output tray , continue to step 3. 3 Open the rear cover .
T ROUBLESHOOT ING 6.5 6 In the Manua l Feed er “ ” appears on the display when you try to print using the manual feeder a nd the machine does no t detect paper , due to no paper or improper paper loading. The error message may also occur when the paper is not properly fed into the machine through the man ual feeder .
