Getting Started 7 Installing the 4G L T E SIM Card 1. Open th e SIM card slot cover on the top of the device. 2. With the Veri zon Wireless logo facing up, carefully insert th e 4G L TE SIM Card into the slot , pressing gen tly until it locks into place (1).
8 Batter y Y our device is po wered by a re chargeable, standard Li-Ion battery. A W all/USB Charger (Charging Head and USB cable) is included with the device, for charging the battery .
Getting Started 9 Batter y Indicator The Batter y Icon in the St atus Bar shows the ba tter y power level. When ba ttery po wer is 15% or less, your device prompts you to charge the battery . If you continue t o operate the device without charging, the device powers off.
10 Setup W izar d The first time you turn your device on, Setup Wizard will guide you through the b asics of setting up your device. Follow the prompts to choose a defaul t language, set up accounts, enable location ser vices, and learn more about your device.

External Speakers : Used in music or video playback, notification tones, and for other sounds. 2. Light Sensor : Used to control screen brightness automatically and when taking photos with the front-facing Camera.

Pressing the Pen button then touch and hold the screen for 2 seconds takes a screen s hot. 3. With the screen capture sho wn, use the pen to draw or write on the screen.
20 Other S P en Gestures Y ou can perform other function s with S P en, for example: • Go back : Press and hold the S Pen button, then draw on the screen. • Open me nu : Press and hold the S Pen button, then draw on the screen. • Screen captur e: Press and hold the S Pen button, then touch and hold S Pen on the screen.

30 Status Bar The Status Bar is part of the S ystem Bar and displays icons to show network status, ba ttery pow er , and other details. Wi-Fi networks av ailable : An open Wi-Fi network is in range. Wi-Fi Connected : Y our de vice is connected to a Wi-Fi network.

34 Wallpaper Choose a picture to display in the background of the Home screen. Y ou can choose fr om pre-loaded wallpaper images, or select a picture you’ve taken with the Ca mera or downloaded. 1. Understanding Y our Device 35 Mini App Tray There are shortcuts available that link to apps that you might need while working in other a pps, such as Alarm, Calcula tor , Calendar , Email, Music Player , T ask manager , and World Clock.
36 T ask Mana ger Y our device can run a pps simultane ously , with some apps running in the background. Use T ask Manager to see which apps are running on your device , and to en d running apps to extend battery life. Y ou can also uninstall apps from your device and check memory usage.

38 Using Google V oice Typing from the Samsung Keyboard When you enable the Voice input setting for Samsung keyboard, you can access Google Voice T yping from the Samsung keyboard. For more inf ormation about en abling V oice i nput, se e “Google Voice T yping” on page 145.
Understanding Y our Device 39 Using Swype Swype allows you to enter a wo rd by sliding your finger or stylus from letter to letter , lif ting your finger be tween words. Swype uses error correcting algo rithms and a language model to predict the next word .
40 Section 3: Contacts and Accounts This section explains how to manage contac ts and account s. Accounts Y our device can synchronize with a variety of accounts. With synchronization, information on your device is updated with any information that changes in your accounts.

Contacts and Accoun ts 47 Linked Contacts Y our device can synchronize with multiple accounts, inc luding Go ogle, Cor porate Exchange, and other email providers. When you synchr onize contacts from these accounts with your device, you may have multiple contacts for one p erson.
48 Sharing Contact Information Y ou can send a contact’ s information using Blu etooth, Email, Gmail, or Wi-Fi Direct. Note: Not all Bluetooth devices accept contacts and not all devices support transfers of multiple contact s. Check the target device’ s documenta tion.

50 R enaming a Group T o rename a group that you created: 1. From a Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Contacts . 2. T ouch Groups above the Contacts List and then touch the group you want to rename. 3. T ouch Menu ➔ Edit . 4. T ouch the Group name field and use the keyboard to enter a new Group name.

Server settings: • Exchange ser ver setti ngs : Configure incoming server settings.
60 Gmail Send and receive emails with Gmail, Google’s web-based email. Setting Up Y our Gmail Account If you did not set up a Google account during t he initial configuration, the first time yo u launch Gmail, your device prompts you to set up your Google account.

64 Music Player Music Player plays music and othe r audio fil es that you copy from your computer . 1. From the Home screen, select Apps ➔ Music Player . The Music Player ap plication searches y our device’ s internal storage for music and playlists.

All songs are displayed. 3. To u c h next to each song you want to add or next to Add all to add all songs to the pla ylist.

68 Playing Music T o play a song: 1. From the Home screen, select Apps ➔ Music Player . 2. T ouch a song in your l ibrary to list en to it. – or – While viewing a list of albums or genres, touch the album thumbnail and then touch a song in the list of songs on the album.
Multimedia 69 Using the Music Play er Music Player plays music and other audio files that yo u copy from your computer . 1. From the Home screen, select Apps ➔ Music Player . 2. T ouch a song or playlist to begin playback. The music player displays below (portrait mode) or to the right (landscape mod e) of the music listing.
70 5. During playback, use the sou nd and playlist controls: •F a v o r i t e : T ouch the star to mark the current song as a favorite. •V o l u m e : T ouch to toggle Silent mode and Sound mo de, then touch a nd drag on the sc ale to s et volume.
Multimedia 71 Options While Playing a Song There are various options and controls a vailable while a song is playing: 1. From the Home screen, select Apps ➔ Music Player , touch a song or an album, and then touch a song. 2. T ouch the music player to enl arge it.
72 Accessing the Music App 1. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Play Music . The Play Music app searches your online librar y and your device’ s internal storage for music and playlists. This can take from a few seconds to sever al minutes, depending on the amount of new music added since you last opened the application.

T ouch on the keyboard to remov e the keyboard. Matching songs are displaye d in a list belo w the search box.
74 • Choose on-device music : In addition to playin g the music that you add to your online library , you can play music stored on your device’ s internal storage. Then you can lis ten to music when you have no Intern et connection. T o do this, make some of your online m usic available offline.
Multimedia 75 Options While Selecting a Song The following options are a vailable for playing songs, albums, or playlist, finding mo re information abo ut artists, finding more music, and deleting songs: 1. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Play Music .
76 Note: If you navigate away from th e Now playing screen in the Music application, the No w Playing bar displays at the bottom of the screen. Y ou ca n use this to control playback o r touch Menu ➔ Hide now playing bar . Displaying the Now Playing Screen T ouch the Now playing bar to display the Now playing screen.

78 Creating a Playlist 1. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Play Music . 2. T ouch the Playlists library view. 3. T ouch Menu ➔ New playlist . The New playlist pop-up displays. 4. T ouch the NAME field to enter a na me for the playlist. 5. T ouch OK to save the new playlist.

80 4. T ouch the gray pi n next to each item you want to make available offline. – or – T ouch a white pin to stop making it available offline. Y ou can s witch to other views of your librar y to make other kinds of items available offl ine as well.

T ouch the icon in the upper left corner of the display screen while the video is playing to change the Display Mode from original size to full screen in r atio or full screen.
82 •D e t a i l s : Provides details about the video, such as Name , Size, Resolution, Duration , Format, and Date modified. • Video auto off : Automatically turn off the video . Options are: Off, After playing, After 15 min, After 30 min, After 1 hour , After 1 hour 30 min, or After 2 hours.

88 T aking Photos T o take a photo: 1. From the Home screen, touch Camera . 2. Using the display as a viewfinder , compose your picture by aiming the lens at the subject. T o configure settings, see “Camera Settings” on page 88. 3. T o ta ke the photo, touc h the Camera button.

90 • Metering : Set how the camer a measures or meters th e light source. Opt ions ar e: Matr ix, Cent er -weight ed, or Sp ot. • Outdoor visibility : Make the display brighter to increase visibility while outdoors. • Guidelines : Enable or disable an on-scree n grid to aid in photo composition.
Multimedia 91 7. T o delete the photo being displayed, touch Delet e and then touch OK to delete the photo or Cancel to exit. 8. T ouch Menu ➔ Set as to assign the photo as a Contact photo, Home and lock screens, Home s creen wallpaper , or Lock screen wallpaper .
92 R ecording Videos 1. From the Home screen, touch Camera . 2. Slide the Mode button to the Camcorder setting. 3. Using the display as a viewfinder , compose your shot by aiming the lens at the subject. T o configure settings, see “Camcorder Settings” on page 92.

94 Viewing Videos with the Image View er After recording a video, use the Image Viewer to play, share, or delete your video. 1. T ouch Image V iewer to view the video. 2. T ouch the screen to show or hide Image Viewer options. 3. Swipe across the screen to d isplay the next or previous video.
