Getting Started 6 Special T ext In this manual, you’ll find text that is s et apart from the rest . These are intended to point ou t important info rmation, share quick methods for activati ng fe atures, to define terms, and more.
7 SIM Card Y our device uses a 4G L TE SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) . The 4G L TE SIM is a small, re ctangular plastic card th at stores your device number , in formation about your w ireless service, and may contain ot her information such as messages an d contacts.
Getting Started 8 Batt er y Y our device is powered by a rechargeable, standard Li-Ion batter y . A Charging Head and USB cable are included with the device, for charging the batter y . Note: The battery comes partially charged. Y ou must fully charge the ba ttery before usin g your device for the first time.
9 T ur ning Y our Device On and Off T ur ning Y our Device On Press and hold the Powe r / Lock Key . While powering on, the device connects with the network, then displays the Home screen and active alerts. T ur ning Y our Device Off 1. Press and hold the Pow e r / Lock Key .
Getting Started 10 Y our Google Account Y our new device uses your G oogle account to fully utilize its Android features, incl uding Gmai l, Google T alk and Android Market. When you turn on your device for the first time, follow the prompts to set up a connection with your existing Google account, or create a new Google account.
11 Securing Y our Device Use your device’ s screen lock fe atures to secure your device. Note: Unless stated otherwise, inst ructions in this User Manual start with the device unlocked, at the Home s creen. For lock screen options, use the Configure lock screen setting under Location and security sett ings, at Apps ➔ Settings ➔ Security .

17 Extended Home Screen The Home screen con sists of the Home page, plus pages that extend beyond the display width to provide more space for adding shortcuts, widgets and fo lders. Slide your finger horizontally across the screen to scrol l to the left or right side pages.

19 Action Bar Action Bar is always a vailable at the top of the screen, and updates automa tically to provide access to it ems related to the current application or scree n. Google Search T ouch to enter cr iteria to search th e web. T ouch to speak your criteria.
Understanding Y our Device 20 Quick launc h / Screen capture Quick launch is a multifunctional soft key on the System Bar , to allow you to quickly launch a favorite app or feature. By default, it is set to Screen Capture , to take a picture of the current screen and save it to the clipboard.
21 Quick Settings Quick Settings and Notification s display the current date and time, network and battery status, Wi-Fi st atus and notifications. T ouch Status in the System bar to display Quick Settings. T ouch items to open them, or touch X to dismiss the notifica tion.
Understanding Y our Device 22 New Gmail Messag e : Y ou have new Gmail. T ouch the icon for additional information. Configure input methods : When the keyboard is displayed, touch for a menu of quick keyboard settings. Bluetooth Active : Bluetooth is turned on.

Y ou can choose fro m pre-loaded wallpapers, or select a picture you’ve taken with the Ca mera or downloaded. 1. T ouch and hold on the Ho me screen, then choose Add to Home s creen .
25 Entering T e xt T ext Input Methods Y our device offers several text input methods: • Samsung keyboard : Enter text by touching keys on a virtual QWERTY keyboard. Samsung keyp ad includes optional predictive text, which matches your key to uches to common words so you can select a word to inser t it into your text.
Understanding Y our Device 26 Entering T ext Using the Samsung K eyboard The Samsung keyboard is a custom virtual QWER TY keyboard, featuring optional pred ictive text. Input characters by tapping the on-screen keys with you r finger , or use speech recognition.
27 Using Google voice typing Enter text by speaking. Google voice typing recognizes your speech and enters text for you. T o enable Google voice typing: To u c h Apps ➔ Settings ➔ Language and input ➔ Google voice typi ng . For more information , see “Keyboards and input methods” on page 99.

29 Copying or cutting text 1. T ouch and hold on the text you want to select to display the selector cursors, then touch and drag the cursors to high light the text you want to cut or copy. 2. T ouch Cut or Copy from the Action bar . Pasting copied or cut text 1.
Understanding Y our Device 30 T ask Manager Y our device can run apps sim ultaneously , with some apps running in the background. Use T ask Manager to see which apps are r unning on your device, and to en d running ap ps to extend battery life. Y ou can also unin stall apps from your device and check memor y usage.
31 Section 3: Accounts and Conta cts Accounts Y our device provides the ability to synchronize infor mation from a variety of accounts, including Google, a Corporate Exchange server , and Email acco unts. With synchronization, you can ensure that information on you r device is updated with any informa tion that changes in your accounts.
Accounts and Contac ts 32 Remo ving an account Important! Removing an account also deletes all of it s messages, contacts and other da ta from the device. 1. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Settings ➔ Accounts and sync . 2. T ouch an account to display its settings, then touch Remove account .
33 Contacts Creating Contacts 1. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Contacts ➔ . 2. At the prompt, select an account for saving the contact (options depend on the acco unts you have set up, and whether a memor y card is installed). Y ou can also add a new account here.
Accounts and Contac ts 34 Marking Def ault Infor mation Y ou may have many different methods for contacting a contact, such as phone numbers, email ad dresses, and IM names. Y ou can set a default, so t hat interactions w ith the contact automatically use one of the se methods.
35 My Profile My Profile contains your own contact information, displayed as ME in Contacts. Y ou can se nd My Profile to friends via Bluetooth, as an attachment in Email or Gmail, or to a Wi-Fi device via Wi-Fi Direct. 1. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Contacts .

37 J oining Contacts Y our device can synchronize c ont acts with multiple accounts. When you synchroniz e contacts with your device, you may have multiple contacts for one person. When you join contacts, all the contact’ s informa tion displays in one Contact record.
Accounts and Contac ts 38 Impor ting and Expor ting Contacts T o back up and restore your contact in formation, you can export your contact list to devi ce memory (USB st orage) or a memor y card. Y ou ca n import co ntacts (pr eviously exported) from device memory (USB sto r age), a memor y card or the SIM card.
39 Groups Assign contacts to Groups to make searching for contacts faster . For more information abo ut displaying contacts by group, see “Choosing contacts to display” on pa ge 36. Creating a new gr oup 1. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Contacts ➔ Groups ➔ .

41 Merging Contacts with Google If you have contacts stored on your device, you can merge those contacts with your Goo gle account, to back them up and have them avai lable from any dev ice. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Contacts , then touch Menu ➔ Merge with Google .
Messaging 42 Section 4: Messaging This section describes ho w to send and receive messa ges, and other features as sociated with messaging. Types of Messages Y our device supports these t ypes of messages: • Email • Gmail • Google T alk • Google+ Messenger Note: Messaging ser vice availability depends on your network and service plan.
43 Composing and Sending Email 1. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Email . 2. Select an account, then tou ch Compose . 3. T ouch fields to enter reci pients, a subject, and the email text. Y ou can also attach files, and set options f or Priority and T racking options.
Messaging 44 Gmail Send and receive emails via Gmail, Google’s web-based email. Setting Up Y our Gmail Account The first time you launch Gmail, your device will prompt you to set up your Google accoun t, if you hav en’t already se t it up. 1. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Gmail .

Apps 46 Section 5: Apps Managing A pplica tions The Apps screen holds all a pplications installed on your wireless device. Applica tions that you do wnload and install from Android Market or from the web are displayed on the My apps tab. 1. From the Home screen, touch Apps .
47 Customizing the Apps Screen Configure the Apps screen to suit y our preferences. Choosing a view 1. From the Home screen, touch Apps . 2. T ouch Menu ➔ Vie w ty p e to choose an option: • Customi zable g rid : The default view , which allows you to touch and hold on app s to move them from screen to screen.
Apps 48 Alar m Set alarms for reminders, or for wake-up times. Note: Alarms you set in Alarm are also av ailable in the Analog clock widget. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Alarm . AllShare Use AllShare to share multimedi a content from your device, via Wi-Fi, with other DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) certified devices.
49 AllShare Options 1. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ AllShare . 2. T ouch to configure options: • Media serv er name : View or edit the name of your device. This name is how other devices identify share requests from you r device. •S h a r e m e d i a : Select types of media you want to share.
Apps 50 Calendar Record events and appoi ntments to manage your schedule. Tip : A Calendar widget is ava ilable in Widgets. For more information about placing wi dge ts on the Home screen, see “Widgets” on page 23. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Calendar .
51 Picture Options 1. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Camera . 2. Use these options to conf igure the cam era: • Self portrait : Switch between the ba ck camera and the front camera, for self-p ortraits. • Shooting mode : Choose an automatic sho oting mode.
Apps 52 R ecording Videos Use the Camera to record video. Important! Do not take videos of people without their permission. Do not take videos in places where cameras ar e not allowe d. Do not take videos in places where you may interfere with another person’s privac y.
53 • S e t t i n g s : – Edit shortcuts : Choose shortcuts to appear on the to olbar . T ouch and drag shortcuts b etween the toolbar and the list. – Self-recording : When On, the Ca mera records with the fr ont Camera. – Recording mode : Choose the default recording mode.
Apps 54 – Edit : Open the picture in Photo edit or , or video in Video maker , to modify it. – Set picture as : Assign the picture as a Contact photo, or as wallpaper . – Slideshow : View a slideshow of all pictures and videos. – Print : Print th e picture via Wi-Fi to a compat ible Samsun g printer .
55 Email Send and receive email using popular em ail service s. For more information, s ee “Email” on page 42. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Email . Galler y Use Gallery to view , capture, and manage pictures and videos. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Galler y .
Apps 56 Latitude Use Google Latitude to loca te your friends on a map, and share or hide your loca tion. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Latitude . Let’s Golf 3 Play the popular game on your device. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Let’ s Golf 3 .
57 Memo Create text notes, for updating your status, sharing wit h friends, or printing on a Sa msung printer via Wi-Fi. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Memo . Messenger Google+ Messenger lets you cha t and coordinate with any of your friends, all at the sa me time.
Apps 58 My V erizon Mobile Use My Verizon Mobile to access self-serve functionality for managing your wireless accoun t directly from your device. Note: Y ou can use My Verizon Mobile free of charge. Y ou will not incur any airtime or me gabyte charges when you use My Verizon Mobile in t h e national Enhanced Service Area.
59 Local Google Places is now Google Local, to use your location to help you find nearby destinations , such as restaurants, bars, hotels, attractio ns, A TMs and gas sta tions, or you can enter a location. Note: Y ou must enable location services to use N avigation, and some features re quire Standalone or Google location ser vices.
Apps 60 Play Music With Google Play™ Music, you can shop for millions of so ngs from your favorite artists, including hundred s of free tracks from the biggest names in Rock, P op, Hip-Hop, and more. Add up to 20,000 songs from your personal music library free.
61 Setup W izar d Follow prompts to quickly get st arted using your new device. Setup Wizard launch es automatically th e first time you t urn on your device, or you can retu rn to it any time to step through setup. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Setup Wizard .
Apps 62 Video Maker Create a movie, using a video yo u download or record with Camera, or by combining imag es. Add audio, to create a soundtrack, then share your movie with your friends. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Video m aker . Video Player Play videos, download and share them with your friends.
63 W or ld Clock View the date and time i n any city . From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Wor ld Cl o ck . Y ouT ube View and upload Y ouT ube videos, r ight from your device.
Connections 64 Section 6: Connection s Y our device inc l udes features to connect to the internet and to other devices. W i-Fi Wi-Fi is a wireless networking technolog y that provides access to local area networks , and to other Wi-Fi Direct devices.
65 Scanning and Connecting to a Wi-Fi Netw or k When you turn on Wi-Fi, your device searches for avai lable Wi-Fi connections, then displays them on screen. 1. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Settings . 2. T ouch Wi-Fi . 3. Y our device automatically sca ns for nearby Wi-Fi networks and displays them.
Connections 66 W i-Fi Direct Wi-Fi Direct is a standard that allo ws devices to connect to each other directly via Wi-Fi, without a Wi-Fi network or hotspot, and without havin g to set up the connection. This type of connection is commonly called peer-to-peer .
67 Mobile Hotspot Use the Mobile Hotspot feat ure to share your de vice’ s internet connection with a PC or other device via W i-Fi. Note: Using your device as a mob ile hotspot consumes battery power and increases your data usage. Roaming while using your device as a mobile hotspot will incur extra data charges.
Connections 68 Connecting a De vice via Mobile Hotspot Use the other device’ s Wi-Fi control to connect to your device’ s Mobile Hotspot. 1. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Settings . 2. T ouch Mobile Hotspot . 3. Activate Wi-Fi on the device, usin g the device’ s Wi-Fi control.
69 Pairing w ith a Bluetooth Device Search for a Bluetooth device an d pair with it, to exchange informatio n between your device an d the target device. After pairing, your device and th e target device will recognize eac h other and exchange informatio n without a passcode or PIN.
Connections 70 T ethering The tethering features allow you to share your device’ s mobile data network connectio n with othe r devices via USB or Bluetooth. T ouch Help under T ethering settings to view informa tion about tetheri ng, and for links to more in formation.
71 Connecting to a Comp uter Y ou can use a USB cable to connect your device to a Windows computer , and transfer music, pictures, and other files between the computer and your device. This connection uses the MTP protocol, supported by most rece nt versions of Windows.

73 Advanced W i-Fi settings 1. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Settings ➔ Wi-Fi . 2. To u c h Menu ➔ Advanced : • Auto-connect : When enabled, your de vice will automatically connect to known Wi-Fi netw orks when you launch a high- data-usage application, even if Wi-Fi is turned off when you launch the application.
Settings 74 Mobile Hotspot Use Mobile Hotspot t o share your device’ s mobile data network connection with a PC or other device via Wi-Fi. For more information about using your device as a mobile hotspot, see “Mobile Hotspot” on page 67. Tip : Mobile Hotspot is als o available from Apps ➔ Mobile Hots pot .
75 Configure Mobile Hotspot 1. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Settings ➔ Mobile Hotspot . 2. T ouch Configure to configure y our Mobile Hotspot ’ s details, including: • Network SSID : View and edit yo ur device’ s name, used by other devices when conne cting to your mobile hotspot.
Settings 76 Blueto oth Manage Bluetooth connections, set your device’ s name, and control your device’ s visibility to other devices. Y our device supports Bluetooth ® 4.0. Bluetooth pr ofiles Bluetooth profiles are specifica tions for ser vices supported by individual devices.
77 Data usage Control your de vice’ s co nnection to mobil e data ser vice, and monitor your da ta usa ge. T ur ning Mobile data On or Off 1. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Settings ➔ Data u sage .
Settings 78 More W ir eless and Network Settings Air plane mode When airplane mode is enabled, a ll your device’ s wirel ess connections are disabled, a nd you cannot make or receive calls or messages or connect to networks.
79 T ethering Use T ethering to share your de vice’ s mobile da ta network connection with a computer that attaches to your device by USB cable or Bluetooth. For more informati on about conn ecting compu ters to your device via tethering, see “T ethering” on page 70.

83 Screen timeout Set the length of delay betwe en the last key press or screen touch and the automatic screen timeout (dim, then lock). 1. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Settings ➔ Display ➔ Screen timeout . 2. T ouch a setting to select it.

87 Application manager Use Application manager to manage applications on your device. Y ou can download and install applications from Google Play Store, Verizon Apps, or S Suggest, from ot her sources, or create applications using the An droid SDK and install them on your device.

89 Backup Assistant Plus Backup Assistant Plus is a new ser vice that integra tes the features and capabilit ies of Backup Assistant, V CAST Medi a Manager , and Sync & Connect. Back up contacts, photos, music, documents and videos to a secure, online sto rage cloud.
Settings 90 My Location VZW location ser vices Enable or disable locatio n service from Verizon Wireless. Note: VZW location ser vices must be enabled to use some applications.
91 Google location ser vices Enable or disable use of lo cation s erivces provided by Google. Important! By selecting Google loca tion services , you are allowing Google’s location service to collect anonymous location da ta. Some data may be stored on your device.
Settings 92 Face unlock When enabled, you unlock th e device by looking at the screen. This option offers lo w security , because someone who looks similar to you coul d unlock your device, but you can also set up backup unlock by PIN or pattern. 1. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Settings ➔ Security .
93 Patt er n When enabled, you draw a pattern, which you create, on th e screen to unlock the device. Y ou can also crea te a PIN, as a backup unlock. 1. From the Home screen, touch Apps ➔ Settings ➔ Securit y . 2. T ouch Screen lock ➔ Pattern , then follow the prompts.
