Getting Started 4 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section allows you to quickly start using your phone by installing and charging the batter y , activa ting your servi ce, setting up your voicemail, contacting customer support.
5 Batter y Y our phone is powered by a re chargeable, standard Li-I on battery , and comes with a W all/USB Charger for charging. Note: The battery comes partially ch arged. Y ou must fully charge the ba ttery before using your phone for the first time.
Getting Started 6 Inst alli ng the Batter y 1. Remove the battery cover . For more information, see “Batter y Cover” on page 5. 2. Insert the top end of the batt er y into the phone housing, aligning the gold contacts on th e top of the battery with th e gold contacts on the phone.
7 Charging the Batter y Note: The battery comes partially ch arged. Y ou must fully charge the ba ttery before using your phone for the first time. A fully discharged battery requires up to 4 hours of charge time. After the first charge, you can use the phone while charging.
Getting Started 8 Non-Supp or ted Batteries Samsung handsets do no t support the use of a non-approved battery. Import ant!: Using a non-supported battery may damage your phone. When using a non-supported battery , yo u will hear a series of beeps and you will see a warning message that indicates: “ NON-SUPPORTED BA TTERY .
9 T ur ning Y our Phone On and Off 䊳 Press and hold the End/Power key to turn the phone’ s power on or off. While powering on, the phone connects with the home network, then displays the Home screen and active alerts. Set-Up W izar d The Set-Up Wizard helps you se t 9 basic parameters to get started using your phone quickly .
Getting Started 10 Locking and Unloc king Y our phone offers two lock func tions: locking the display , or locking the phone. Because this is a touch screen phone, locking the display prevents unintentional key p resses and can minimize unnecessary battery dr ainage.
11 V oicemail All unanswered calls to your phone are sent t o voicemail, even if your phone is turned off, so you’ ll want to set up your voicemail and personal greeting as soon as you activate your pho ne. Setting up V oicemail 1. From a Home screen, touch Dialer .

Push in on the memor y card to release the lock and remove memory card from the memory card slot. 17 Open View of Y our Phone This touch screen phone also offers the convenience of a slide- out QWERTY keyboard. T o acc ess the keyboard, rotate t he phone and slide the p hone open. When you slide the pho ne open, the display automaticall y rotates from portrait mode to landscape mode.
Understanding Y our Phone 18 Home Screen The Home screen is your starting point for using the features of your phone. Y ou can customiz e home screens by placing Widgets and chang ing wallpaper . Und erstan ding the H ome S creen 1. Widget Bar and T ab : T ouch the Widget Bar T ab to open and close Widget Bar , fo r access to widgets.
19 Extended Home Screens The home screen ex tends beyond the displa y width to provide more space for adding widgets. Slide your finger horizont ally across the screen to scroll to the left or right side of the extended home screen.
Understanding Y our Phone 20 W idgets and the Widget Bar Widgets are links to applications, tools or features, which can be docked in the Widget Bar , or on a Home screen. For a list of widgets, see “Widgets” on page 21. The Widget Bar , located at th e left of the home screen: • Provides quick access to widgets.
21 Customizing th e Widget Bar Widgets settings allow you to se lect widgets for display in the Widget Bar , making the widget s available for use f rom the Widget Bar , or for placing on a home screen. Y ou can also change the order the widgets display in the Widget Bar .
Understanding Y our Phone 22 Communities : Upload photos or videos, or post a status update, to your fa vorite social networking sites such as Facebook, Flickr , MySpace and Photobucket. 23 Menu The Menu is the starting point for launching applications an d features. T o access the menu: 䊳 From a Home screen, touch Menu . T ouch an item to open the a pplication, feature or menu. Customizing the M enu Y ou can customize the Menu by ad ding or rearranging icons to your favorite applications.

25 Event Sta tus Bar and Event Manager The Event Status Bar appears on th e Home screen to al ert you to calendar events, misse d calls, new messages, or special Master Volume modes. The Event Stat us Bar does not display when there are no active alerts.

Call Functions 36 Thr ee-way Calling Using your phone, you can merge two calls to set up three-way calling betwe e n you an d two other parties. 1. Establish a call , either by dialing or answering an i ncoming call. 2. While the ca ll is in-progress with the first participant, d ial the second phone number and touch Call .

Contacts 46 In Case of Emergency (ICE) In Case of Emerge ncy (ICE) allows you to set up to 3 emergency contacts, plus enter pers onal inform ation that may be helpful to others using your phone in an emerg ency . Note: ICE contacts are displayed in red in the Contacts list.

Entering T ext 48 Section 6: Entering T ext Y our phone provides convenient ways to enter words, letters, punctuation, and numbers when you need to enter text. This section describes se lecting the text input mode and entering characters, using the built-in QWERTY keyboard or the Di aler keypad.
49 Entering Symbol s Enter symbols by pressing the F unction key before a key , to access the orange special character on th e key . Y ou can also lock the keyboard in Function mode, to enter multiple symbols. Entering Smileys Smileys communicate fe elings such as pleasure, approval or humor .
Entering T ext 50 T ouch Screen T ext Input Bu ttons Using T9 W ord T9 Word is a predictive text i nput mode that recognizes common words matching the sequence of your key presses and inserts the most common word into your text. T9 Word requires only one key press per letter of the word and is much faster than traditional te xt entr y .
51 Using 123 M ode Use 123 mode to enter numbe rs into a text message. 䊳 T ouch the T ext Input Mode button, then select . When entering numbers: • T ouch a key to ente r the associated numb er . • T ouc h to enter a space. Using Symbo ls Use Symbol mode to insert symb ols and punctuation marks into text.

55 Creating and Sending Video Messages Video Messages combine text, videos, and sound, which can be sent to another mobile phones, to Email addresses, your Onli ne Album, or a blog. Video messaging is al so known as Multimedi a Messaging (MMS). Note: Sliding the QWERTY keyboard open immediately after taking a video opens a New Video Message screen.

Messaging 58 Viewing Picture, V ideo or V oice Messages 1. T ouch a message to view its details. 2. After loading, th e a ttachment (a nd text if any) contained in the message appears in the displ ay . Scroll the sc reen up to view the entire picture or message if necessar y .
59 Message Folders Messages are stored in the mess age folders, depending on your selections for I nbox View in Message Settings. Tip: T o scroll throug h all messages in the Messages, Sent, or Drafts folder , open one message and swipe your finger quickly to the left to view the previous message, or right to view the next message.

63 Cor por ate Email RemoSync ™ offers tools to stay mo re prod uctive by doing business directly from yo ur phone. Using Microsoft ® Exchange ActiveSync ® , RemoSync connects your phone directly to an Microsoft Exch ange server , providing real-tim e access to email, contacts, calenda rs and tasks.

69 Bluetooth Settings Bluetooth settings allow you to view and change the phone’ s name, display supported profiles, and set visi bility and p airing.
