Getting Started 5 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section allows you to qui ckly start using your Samsung SCH-R760 phone by installing a micr oSD card, installing and charging the batter y , activa ting yo ur service, and setting up your voicemail a ccount.

Getting Started 7 Inst alli ng the Memor y Car d Y our device lets yo u install a microSD (SD) or mic roSDHC memory card to expand available memo ry to store i mages, videos, music, applications, and data. 1. Remove the battery cover . 2. Locate the mic roSD card slot on th e inside of the phone.
8 Re mov i n g a M em o r y C a r d Important! T o pre vent damage to informa tion stored on the memory card, unmount the ca rd before removing it from the phone. 1. From the Home screen, touch Menu , then touch Settings ➔ Storage ➔ Unmount SD card .
Getting Started 9 2. Lift the battery up by the sl ot provided (1). 3. Lift the battery up and out of t he phone (2). Instal ling t he batte r y cov er Align the co ver (1) and press it f irmly into place (2), mak ing sure it snaps into place at the corners (3 and 4).
10 Charging the Batter y Y our phone is powered by a rechar geable Li-ion batt ery . A wall charger , which is used for charging the battery, is inc luded with your phone. Use only approved batteries and chargers. Ask your local Samsung dealer for further details.
Getting Started 11 Note: This illustration displays both the correct and incorrec t orientation for c onnecting the charger . If the charger is incorrectly connected, dama ge to the accessory port will occur therefore voiding the phone’ s warranty .
12 Warning! Use only Samsung-approv ed charging devices and batteries. Samsung accesso ries are designed to maximize battery life. Using other accessories may invalidate your warrant y and may cause damage. Note: Failure to unplug the wall char ger before you remove the battery , can cause damage to the phone.
Getting Started 13 While powering on, the phone connects with the network, then displays the Locked scre en and puzzle pieces for any active Notific ation alerts. Note: Y our phone’s intern al antenna is loca ted along the bottom back of the phone .
14 V oicemail All unanswered calls to your phone are sent t o voicemail, even if your phone is turned off, so you’ ll want to set up your voicemail and personal greeting as soon as you activate your phon e. Setting up V oicemail 1. T ouch Home , then to uch Phone , then touch and hold .
Getting Started 15 Roam i ng When you travel ou tside your home network’ s coverage area, your phone can roam to acquire service on othe r compatible digital networks. When Roami ng is active, the Roaming icon ( ) appears in the Annunciato r Line (Notification Bar) of the display .

During a call, Prox imity sensor detects th at the phone is next to your face and darke ns the screen to save battery power .

Understanding Y our Phone 21 T ouch Screen Display Y our phone’s touch scre en display is the int erface to its features. 1. Annunciator Line : Presents icons to show network status, battery po wer , and connect ion details. (For more information, refer to “Annunciator Line” on page 22.

Understanding Y our Phone 23 USB Connected : The phone is connected to a computer using a USB cable. New T ext Message : Y ou have a new text or multimedia message. New Voicemail : Y ou have new voicemail. New Email Message : Y ou have new email. Alarm Set : An alarm is active.
24 Search Bar The Search Bar provides you an on-screen Internet search engine powered by Google™. 1. From the Home screen, touch the Se arch Bar . A QWERTY keypad appears in the display . 2. Enter the item for which to search, then touch Go . 3. T ouch to use Google Voice Search .

F or example: • T ouch and hold a widget on the home screen to move it. • T ouch and hold on a field to display a pop-up menu of options. 26 Clearing Notifications 1. Sweep your fing er downward from the top of the s creen to display the Notifi cations Pane l. 2. T ouch Clear to clear all notifications.

Call Functions 33 Section 3: Call Functions This section describes how to ma ke, answer , or end calls. This section also describes your phone’ s fea tures and functionality associated with making or answering calls.
34 Note: T ouching or does not end a call. (F or more information, refer to “Ending a Call” on page 38.) Dialing Emer gency Numbers When you call an Emergenc y Number , such as 911, do not disconnect th e call or make other calls until advised to do so by the emergency operator .
Call Functions 35 Making Calls using Sp eed Dia ls Speed Dials are 1-, 2-, or 3-digit shortcuts (1 to 100) you assign to contacts, to allo w you to quickly ca ll the contact. (For more information, refer to “Speed Dials” on page 51.) 1. Navigate to a Home scre en panel, then touch Phone .
36 Thr ee-W ay Calling Merge two calls to set up a thre e-way call between you and two other parties. 1. Establish a call, either by dialing or answeri ng an incoming call. 2. T ouch Add Call . The first call is placed on hold, and the phone Keypad appears.
Call Functions 37 Rejecting a call When you reject a call, the call is ans wered by voicem ail. On the Incoming call sc reen, touch and drag outside of the large circle. Voicemail answers the call, prom pting the caller to le ave a voice me ssage.
38 Ending a Call From the In-Call screen, touch . From screens other than the In-Call screen, do the following: 1. Open the Notifica tion Panel. (For more inform ation, refer to “Notification Panel” on page 25.) 2. On the In-Call l ine, touch .

40 Section 4: Accounts and Contacts This section explains how to manage your accounts and contacts. Accounts Y our phone provides the abil ity to synchronize inform ation from a variety of accounts, including Google, a Microsof t Exchange ® server and Web interface, and so cial networking sites such as Hotmail, Y ahoo!, Face book, and T witter .

46 Updating Contacts from Call log Save a phone number from a recent call record to create a new contact, or update an existing co ntact. (For more in formation, refer to “Creating or Updating Contacts Using Call Logs” on page 38.) Get Friends Use the Get Friends feature to sync with you r accounts.

50 3. T ouch contact(s) to mark them for a ddition, or touch Select all to mark all c ontacts. When selec ted, a check mark appears in the check box. 4. T ouch to add the se le cted contact(s). Accounts and Contac ts 51 Speed Dials Speed Dials are 1-di git shortcuts (1 to 9) you assign to contacts, to allow you to quic kly call the contac t. Note: Some Speed Dials are reser ved by default, and cannot be assigned: Speed Dial 1 is reserved for Voicemai l.
52 Section 5: Entering T ext This section describes how to ente r words, letters, punctuation, and numbers when you need to en ter text. Y our phone provides on-screen QWERTY keyboards to sup port quick and easy text input.
Entering T ext 53 Changing the K eyboar d Type When entering text, you can se le ct the type of on-scree n keyboard you wish to use. T ouch and hold on a text input field, then select a keyboard t.
54 Using ABC M ode 1. If desired, rotate your phone co unterclockwise to Landscape orie ntation. 2. T ouch a text input field. The following screen appears in the display: 3. T ouch the desired al phabetic characters. 4. T o change c apitalizatio n to the Abc mode, touch the shift key ( ).
Entering T ext 55 Using XT9 P redictive T ext XT9 is a predictive text system th at has n ext-letter prediction and regional error correct ion, which compensates for users touching the wrong keys on QWERTY keyboards. 1. Rotate your phone counter clockwise to a Landscape orientation.
56 Here are a few tips to get you started: • Spacing is automatic : When you finish a word, j ust lift your finger and start the next word. • Double letters : Just “scribble” on the key . • Capitalization : Swype recognizes and capitalizes the first word of sentences.
Entering T ext 57 Entering Symb ols and Numbers Using the Swype Keyboard: • T ouch and hold on a key to enter the symbol or number at the top of the key . • T ouch and hold on a key until a menu of all characters available on that key appears, then touch a character to enter it.
58 Section 6: Messaging This section describes how to se nd and receive messages, and how to use other features a ssociated with messaging. Types of Messages Y our phone supports these types of messages: • Te x t m e s s a g e s : Send and receive simple messages containing text to other mobile phones or email addresses (a lso known as SMS).
Messaging 59 3. T o add a recipient from either Contacts, Recent, Groups, or Favorites, touch each contact to place a check mark then touch Add . The selected c ontact(s) display in t he recipient field. If you have more than one recipient, the same text message is sent to al l recipients in the Enter recipient field.
60 Manag ing Me ssa ges Thr eaded View Messages you send and receive to the same Contact, number , or address are grouped to gether as a “thread”. Threaded messages allow you to se e all the messag es you exchanged with a Co ntact or other recipient, with the latest message displayed first.
Messaging 61 • Multimedia message (MMS) settings : – Delivery reports : Request report of delivery date and time for all messages sent. – Auto-retrieve : T ouch to enable or disable automatic retrieval of MMS messages. When enabled , MMS messages download auto matically .
62 5. T ouch Compose Mail to enter the text of your email. 6. While composing a messa ge, touch Menu for these options: •S e n d : Send the m essage. • Save draft : Close the m essage and save it in Drafts • Add Cc/Bcc : Create Cc ( copy) and Bc c (blind copy ) fields to the message.
Messaging 63 Google T alk Chat with other Go ogle T alk users. Tip : T alk requires that you have a Google account. Use the Gmai l application to set up your Google account on your phone. (F or more information, refer to “Adding a Google account” on page 40.

84 Photo Editor Photo Editor lets you ad just basic brightness , contrast, and color of pictures that you t ake on your phone. Y ou can also apply a wide variety of effe cts to your photos. 1. From the Home screen, touch Applications ➔ Photo Editor .

86 Section 8: Connections In addition to its network co nnections, your phone includes features to connec t to the internet and to other devices, via Wi-F i, Bluetooth, VPN, and Dial Up Networking. Browser Y our phone is equipped with a full HTML Browser , which allows you to access the internet.

Connections 91 – Open in background : When enabled, new windows open behind the current window . – Set home page : View and set the default first page th at displays when you launch Browser . – Default storage : Select where Browser stores files.
92 Maps Use Google Maps to find your curre nt location, get directions, and other location-based i nformation. Note: Y ou must enable location ser v ices to use Maps, and some features require Sta ndalone or Google location se r vices. (F or more informatio n, refer to “Location a nd security” on page 135.
Connections 93 – Latitude : View your frien d's locations and share your location with them. – Location his tor y : Lets you track and d isplay your previous locations. – My Places : Synchronize your starred map items with Google maps. • Search Maps : Search for a place of interest.
94 Air plane mode When activate d, Airpla ne mode disables all radio-based functions of your phone. Tip : Y ou can still place emergency calls with Ai rplane mode activated. Y ou ca n also enable or re-enable Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a nd GPS functions with Airpla ne mode acti vated.
