Getting Started 4 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section explains how to start using your Sams ung Tint™ phone by activ ating yo ur ser vice, setting up your Voicemail, or getting an unders tanding of how this manual is put together .
5 Installing the Battery Note: Y our phone comes packaged with a partially charged rechargeable standard Li-Ion battery and tra vel adapter . Important!: Y ou must fully charge the battery the first time you use your phone, otherwise you could damage the batter y .

Only use Samsung-approved ch arging devices and batteries. Samsung accessories are designed to maximize battery life.
7 Low Batter y In dicator The battery indica tor ( ) in th e upper -right corner of the display indicates powe r level. Monito r the battery strength and ensure your battery is adequa tely charged. Five bars ( ) indicate a full charge. An empty batt ery icon ( ) i ndicates a near empty ba ttery .
Getting Started 8 T ur ning Y our Phone Of f 䊳 Press and hold for two or more seconds. Y our phone powers off. Note: If your phone is on and you press for less than one second, the phone will not power off. This prevents your phone from being turned off accidentally .
9 Section 2: Understanding Y our Phone This section outlines some key features of your phone. It also describes the screen format and th e icons that will be di splayed when the phone is in use. F eatures of Y our Phone • Domestic and international v oice and text messaging service (available on participating networks).
Understanding Y our Phone 1 0 3. Front Display — Indicates the status of your phone, including status icon s, message indicators, signal strength, and so on. 4. Headset Connector — Used to connect an opti onal headset (for hands free operation) or an optional TTY device.
11 2. Navigatio n Key — In Menu mode, lets you scroll through the phone menu options. In St andby mode, let s you access preset functions and one user-defined function. 3. Left Soft Key — Used to navigate through menus and applications and to select the choice indica ted at the bottom left corner of the Main LCD.
Understanding Y our Phone 1 2 Left Soft Key Some functions of the Lef t soft key ( ) are as follo ws: • In standby mode and with the Shortcut Icon Display setting On , press the MENU soft key ( ) to open the Main Menu. (F or more information, refer to “Shortcut Icon” on page 104.
13 • T o erase the entire sentence, press and hold . • T o back up one menu level, briefly press . End Key • Press and hold the End key to turn your phone on or off. • Briefly press once to disconnect a call. • Press to return to standby mode from any menu, or to cancel the last input.

The sample screen shows that press ing the Left soft key will dis play the Main Menu screen, pressing OK ( ) will launch the highlighted applicat ion, and pressing the Right soft key will show the @metro screen.

17 Tip: Y ou can also enter the Vol u me > Voice Calls sub-menu by pressing MENU ➔ Settings ➔ Sound Setti ngs ➔ Vol u me ➔ Voice Calls . Use the Volume key on the left side of your phone to adjust the ringer volume setting. Note: The Vibrate icon ( ) appears in the display when the phone is in Vib ra t e mode.
Understanding Y our Phone 1 8 T o place your phone in Handsfree mode, do one of the follo wing: • Connect an optional wired headset. – Or – • Pair and con nect an optional Bluetooth technology headset or handsfree car kit. (F or more information, refer to “Add New Device” on page 89.
19 Section 3: Call Functions This section provides procedures for making and answering calls. This section also describes features, such as call logs and call timers, that help you make calls and ma nage your call time. Making a Call 1. With the phon e on, enter the number you wish to call using the keypad.

The following pause options appear in the dis play: •2 - S e c P a u s e — A 2-second pa use after which dialing resumes. •W a i t — A hard pause (w aits for input from you) . 3. Use the Up/Down navigation or arrow keys to highlight the desired pause.

Press and hold the number key representing the third dig it of the desired Contact’ s speed dial number . Call Functions 22 4. Say “Y es” to confirm the name or “No” to hear the next name, or use the keypad to select the corre ct name from the list. (For more in formation, refer to “Choice Lists” on page 75.) • Press the Repeat soft key to say the name ag ain.
23 Pause Dialing F rom a Contact s Entr y If you voice di al a contact th at contains 2-Sec Pause(s) simply wait for the pauses to pass and the dialing to complete.
Call Functions 24 Tip: Y ou can also enter the Vol um e > Voice Calls sub-menu by selecting MENU ➔ Settings ➔ Sound Settin gs ➔ Vol um e ➔ Voice Calls . 25 Silence an Incoming Ring 䊳 During an incoming call, press the Volume key ( ) on the left side of the phone up or down to silenc e the ringer . Ignore an Incoming C all Ignored calls ar e immediately forwarded to Voicemai l. 䊳 During an inc omi ng call, press the Ignore soft key .
Call Functions 26 The following Calls Logs appear in the display: • Outgoing Calls — Stores and lists records of the last 90 calls you originated (outgo ing) on your phon e. • Incoming Calls — Stores and lists recor ds of the last 90 call s you received and answered (incoming) on your phon e.
27 Erase Logs Y ou can era se any or all calls from individual call s logs (Outgoing Calls, Incoming Calls, or Missed Call s) or from all calls logs at the same time (A ll Call s). 1. In standby mode, sel ect MENU ➔ Calls . 2. Use the Navigation key to highlight Outgoing Calls , Incoming Calls , Missed Calls , or All Calls , then press the key .
Call Functions 28 • Lifetime Calls — Shows the total number and dura tion of all cal ls made with and receive d by your phone since bein g activated. 3. Press Reset to reset the highlighted timer . 4. Press Reset All to reset all of the t i mers except Lifetime Calls.
29 Section 4: Menu Naviga tion This section explains the men u navi gation for your phone. It also includes an outline of all the a vailable menus associa ted with your phone. Menu Naviga tion Access the menus and sub-menus in your phone using the Navigati on key ( ) and soft keys ( or ), or use a shortcut.

Entering T ext 32 Section 5: Entering T ext This section outlines how to sele ct the desired text entry mode when entering characters using the phone keypad. This section also describes how to use the T9 predictive text entry syste m to reduce the number of key stro kes needed to enter text.
33 Using T9 ® Mode T9 Word recognizes commonly used words for the numeric sequence of key press e s and inserts the word into your message. T9 Word is much faster than the traditional method of text entr y (Abc) and requires only one key press per le tter of the word tha t you’re spelling.
Entering T ext 34 䊳 T o replace the current ly displayed text with an alternative, highlight the preferred alternative and press . Note: T o enter a space, press the key .
35 Enterin g Symbols Enter symbols such as “@” or “%” into a text message. 1. While composing a text message, press th e Left soft key, then select Symbols . The first of thre e symbol screens appears in the display . 2. Use the Prev and Next soft keys to pa ge through the other symbols, if desired.

49 Erase a Group The Erase option lets you delete a Group, thus freeing you to reassign the Contacts formerly in the Group. 1. In standby mode, press MENU ➔ Contacts ➔ Group . The Group List screen appears in the display . 2. Use the Up/Down navigation ke ys to highli ght the Group that you wish to delete, then press Options .
Understanding Y our Contacts 50 ChatLINK™ ChatLINK is a downloadable Push-T o-T alk (PTT) application provided by your Wireless Carrier . ChatLINK lets you conduct PTT calls with selected Contacts or Groups. Obtaining Cha tLINK 1. In standby mode, press MENU ➔ Contacts ➔ ChatLINK .

@metro 52 Section 7: @metro With Mobile Shop, you can do wnload full featured a pplications over the air including games, personalized ring ton es, pictures, and more. Y ou can send and re ceive instant messag es and e- mail, or browse the w eb to catch up on all t he latest news.

Using On-line Help The Help sub-menu within @metro is a short tutorial on several @metro-Mobile Shop features. Messages 54 Section 8: Messages This section explains ho w to send or receive different types of messages. This section also describes the features and function ality associa t ed with messaging. Types of Messages Y our phone is able to send and recei ve T ext messages and Picture messa ges to compatible phones and devices.

Messages 56 View T ext Messages No w — Chat View When you exchange a series of text messages with a single Contact or number , your incoming messages and your sent messages wi ll appear as if they were a “c hat session”. Tip: If you prefer , you can view your messages individually .

Messages 60 Tip: Press the Add soft key to display a pop-up menu containing: Contacts , Groups , and Recent Calls . These options allow you to find and add recipients to the Send T o: list. 3. The Subject field a ppears i n the display . Enter a sub ject for the Picture message usi ng the keypa d.
61 Note: Y ou can record and insert a voice memo of up to 60 seconds in length, if you record first before attaching a picture. If a picture is attached before recording, the size of the voice memo is limited to the amount of remaining memory.

65 Managing Inbox Messages 1. In standby mode, select MENU ➔ Messages ➔ Inbox . A list of incoming messages appears in the display . 2. Highlight a message in the list. 3. Press Erase to remove the highli ghted message from the Inbox. 4. Press Options .
Messages 66 • Message Info — Shows message delivery status, ad dressee, size, and so on. •E x t r a c t — Lets you call or se nd a message to the originator of this message. 4. Highlight an option, then press to perform the function for the highlighted option.
67 View and Edit Dr aft T ext Messages 1. In standby mode, sel ect MENU ➔ Messages ➔ Drafts . A list of any draft messages that yo u’ve saved appears in the display . 2. Highlight a text message that yo u wish to view or ed it, then press Edit .

73 Using Links Links have several purposes, su ch as jumping to a different page, to a differen t site, or even initi ating a phone call. Links are shown inside of bracket s ([ ]). Y ou can normal ly use the Left soft key ( ) to select a li nk when it is highlighted.
Voice SVC 74 Section 10: V oice SVC This section explains how you can use a nd customize your phone’ s VoiceSignal vo ic e recognition feature. V oice SV C Options Y our My Shot includes V oiceSignal, sta te-of-the-art v oice recognition software tha t lets you use your voice to dial numbers, access your Contacts list, a nd open T ools.

Use the Up and Down navigati on keys to adjust the selected Sensitivi ty setting incrementally bet ween Reject More spoken comma nds or names and Reject Less spoken commands or names.

In standby mo de, press the MENU soft key , then select Voice SVC ➔ Voic e Settings ➔ Voice Launch . The following options appear in the display: • Key Only — Pre ss and hold to activate VoiceS ignal for one call.
79 Section 11: Multimed ia Use your My Shot phone to take full color di gital pictures, display them on your phone’ s vi vid color display , and instantly share them with family and friends. With Mobile S hop, you can download pe rsonalized rington es, pictures, and more.
Multimedia 80 Cam era Sc reen When you acti vate your phone’ s camera, the sec ond line of the display is reserved for the current camera resolution setting and the picture counter . The center of the display shows a viewfinder image of the subje ct at which the cam era is pointed.
81 Memory Counter — Indicates the numb er of photos stored in the My Images folder and the maximum number of photos you can save at the current Resolution and Quality settings. Camera Shortcuts Y ou can use the Na vigation Keys to quickly access both the Brightness and Zoom ca pabilities of the built in c amera.
Multimedia 82 Series Shot Mode 1. In camera mode, press the Options soft key, then highlight // ➔ Series Shot . The icon and the Series shot counter ( ) appear in the display . 2. Press Ta k e ( ) for each of 5 pictures in the series. The Series shot counter indicates the number of pictures taken in the series.
83 • Picture ID — Lets you take pictures the co rrect size and resolution for Contacts list picture IDs. 2. Select the desired re solution setting. The camera applies the selected R esolution sett i ng to your next picture. Night Shot Night Shot lets you take pictures i n low light.
Multimedia 84 • Cloudy — Us e this setting when taking pictures in cloudy conditio ns. • T ungsten — Use this setting w hen taking pictures under incande scent lights. • Fluorescent — Use this se tting when taking p ictures un der fluorescen t lights.
85 View Mode 1. In the Camera Settings screen, select Vi ew M o de . The following options appe ar in the display: • Landscape — Shows a wider , mor e panoramic view of the subject. •P o r t r a i t — Shows a narrower , more v erticall y orie nted view of the subject.
Multimedia 86 A multiple-page m atrix of thumbnail views of saved photo s and images appears in the display . 2. Highlight an i mage or photo. 3. Press the Camera soft key to take new photos. Press Vie w ( ) to expand the highlig hted image to fill the screen.
87 Using My Sounds Galler y My Sounds lets you record and manage voice memo files and assign melodies as ringe rs or alerts. 1. In standby mode, press the MENU soft key , then select Multimedia ➔ My Sounds . The following options appe ar in the display: • Record New — Lets you reco rd voice memos.
T ools 88 Section 12: T ools This section explains how you ca n use your phon e’ s Digital Assistant functions to view today’ s cale ndar , schedule appointments, set an al arm, perform simple math calc ulations, and more. 89 Register ed Li st This menu provides a list of Bluetooth wirele ss technology devices discovered by your han dset. 1. From the To o l s menu, select Bluetooth ➔ Registered List . A list of regist er ed Bluetooth devices appears in the disp lay . Add New Device T o sea rch for availabl e Bluetooth devi ces : 1.
T ools 90 8. Select the des ired option. A pop-up message appears to inform you that your phone is connected with the selected device. Connecting to a Bluetoot h Device From the R egistered List, 1. Highlight the device and pr ess . The blue Bluetooth Connected icon ( ) appears in the display .
91 Suppor ted Pr ofiles Lists the Bluetooth pr ofiles your phone supports. Selecting a profile shows a descript ion of that profile. Device Info Shows the Bluetooth T y pe, Status, and Addr ess of your phone. Calendar Calendar allows yo u to view the current, past, or future month in calendar form at.
T ools 92 •S t a r t T i m e — Populate d with the current time (rou nded to the nearest hal f-hour). T o ch ange the ti me, use the keypad. – Use the Left/Right navigation keys to select AM or PM . • End Date — Populated w ith highlighted Calendar date.
93 •E r a s e a l l — Erase all even ts from the C alendar . 9. Highlight an option. Pre ss to invoke the highlighted option. Memo Pad Create notes an d store th em in Memo Pad. Notes that y ou create in Memo Pad can’t b e prioritized or assigned an alert.
T ools 94 4. T o erase a Memo: • From th e Memo Pad screen, highlig ht the Memo and press Options . The follow ing options appea r in the display: – Edit — Change t he currently highlighted memo. – Erase — Erase the hig hlighted memo. – Erase all — Erase all of th e unlocked memos.
