Introduction 5 Intr oduction Congratulations on your purchase of the Samsung SCH- A670 mobile phone. The SCH-A670 offers a mixture of f eatures such as a high-resolution display , PIM (P erso nal Information Manager) fun c ti ons, a b uilt-in digital camera with flash and video capture capabilities, voice recognition applications, and more.
6 Install the battery This phone comes packaged with a partially cha rged rechargeable standard Li-Ion battery and travel charger . Important! The phone can be used w hile the batter y is charging, but must be full y charged bef ore first use, otherwise you could damage the battery .
Introduction 7 Charge the battery Y our phone is powered b y a rechargeable standard Li-Ion batter y . Only use Samsung-approved charging de vices and batteries. Samsung accessor i es are designed to maximize batter y life. Using other accessories may in validate your warranty and may cause damage.
8 Understand y our phone The antenna A void touching the antenna while the phone is powered up. Contact with the antenna affects t he quality of your calls and may cause the phone to operate at a higher p ow er le vel than necessar y . Before placing calls , make sure the antenna is fully extended f or best sign al quality .
Understand your phone 9 P ower Sa ve mode Unless the backlight setting fo r the LCD has been changed, the backlight dims after a minute of inactivity , and then tur ns off . With P ower sa ve enab led , the backlight is alwa ys dim. After appro ximately one minute of inactivi ty , P o wer sav e turns the backlight off .
10 Right soft key Functions for the right soft k ey ( ) are defined by what appears above it in the display . Some, but not all functions of the right soft ke y are as f ollows: • Press the right soft ke y ( ) Bac k to retur n to the standby mode from an y main menu.
Understand your phone 11 Headset connector The headset connector is the input jack f or the optional hands-free headse t. The headse t include s an earbud and microphone in a conv enient, lightweight unit so you can talk without using your hands.
12 SEND key The SEND ke y ( ) is used to answer calls, dial calls, and to recall the last number dialed : • Press once to answ er calls. • Enter a number and press once to connect a call. • Press once in standby mode to displa y the most recently dialed number .

14 Y our phone’ s display The top line of the display is reserved f or icons that indicate such things as networ k status, battery power , signal strength, and connection type. Other icons ma y appear else where in the display as w ell. The follo w ing table lists some of these icons, along with their descripti ons.
Understand your phone 15 Vibrate mode : Indicates your phone is in vibrate mode (ringer is silent). Battery strength : Indicates the batter y charge le vel.

Y our phone ’ s modes 17 Standb y mode Standby mode is the state of the phone once it has f ound ser v ice and is idle. The phone goes into standby mode: • After you po wer it on. • When you press after a call. In standby mode, you will see the time, da y , and date as well as all other icons.
18 Enter/Exit Silent mode Silence the tones your ke ypad makes when y ou press a ke y . • In standby mode , press and hold . Entering Silent Mode briefly ap pears in the display and your phone retur ns to standby mode. • While in Silent mode and standby mode, press and hold .

30 Camera T ake full color digital pictures, display them on y our phone’s vivid color display , and instantly share them with f a mily and friends. It’ s fun, and as easy to use as a traditio nal point-and- click camer a – just take a picture , view it on the displa y , and send it to up to ten people, right from your phone.
Camera 31 T ake a video Y our phone is capable of recording shor t videos (and audio) of up to 12 seconds in len gth. Sav ed videos are stored in the Video Gallery . Depending upon their size, you can store up to 2 videos in the Video Gallery . 1. In standby mode, briefly press the camera ke y on the right side of the pho ne.
32 3. The first frame of the first sav ed video appears in the display . 4. Browse other videos stored in the Video Galler y (if any), using the left/r ig ht navigation ke ys.

Camera 35 Use Multi Shot The camer a can take m ultiple pictures in success ion at the touch of a button. The number of pictures that you can tak e depends on the resolution setting. See “Change picture resolution” on page 36 for more inf or mation.
36 When settings are defined in the camera settings menu ( Menu , ) , the settings are per manently sav ed. Howe ver , when settings are defined while the camera is in prev iew mode (preparing to take a picture), the are only active f or the current camera session.
Camera 37 2. Use the navigation k ey to highlight the desired resolutio n and press . Y ou’ re retur ned to the Settings menu. The resolution setting affects z oom capabilities. When resolution is set to High, only X1 zoom is av ailable. When resolution is set to Medium, X1 and X2 are availab le.
38 4. Now , any pictures you take adopt the theme of the fun frame that y ou’ve selected. Be creative with Color T o nes Change the look of your pictures with Color T ones. Choose from fiv e av ailable settings su ch as Emboss, Negativ e, and Sepia.
Camera 39 Use Shutter Sound Choose from five diff erent sounds whenev er you snap a picture. Aside from being a cool sound effect, Shutter Sound acts as an audible reminder that your camera has taken the picture. 1. In standby mode , press the left soft ke y ( ) Menu , then press , , .
40 Zoom in on a subject Y our camera has digital zoom capabilities of up to x4 in Low resolution mode (x2 in Medium). Pictures may appear some w ha t g rainy as y ou zoom in; this is a normal result of digital enhancement. 1. In camera mode, press the na vig ation left/right keys to zoom in and out on y o ur su bject.

P oint, click, and send a picture Snap a picture a nd send it to anyone with a compatible de vice in a f ew easy steps.
42 Contacts Up to 500 entri es ca n be stored in Contacts. Each entr y can hav e up to fiv e associated phone numbers and two e-mail addresses. Each phone number can be up to 32 digits in length, including hard pauses, and associated names can be up to 22 characters in length.

48 Add pauses Calls to automated systems such as banking se r vices often require a password or account number . Instead of manually enter ing the numbers, y ou can sto re the numbers to Contacts along with special characters called pauses. • P pause : Stops the calling sequence until the phone receives furthe r input.

Contacts 53 Assign a picture to a Contacts entry When y ou assign a picture to a Cont acts entry , the pict ure that you assigned to the entr y appea rs in the di splay when you receiv e a call from the entr y . 1. In standby mode , press the left soft ke y ( ) Menu , then press , .

Calls 57 Calls The Calls menu retains information about Outgoing, Incoming, and Missed Calls. Y ou can also view times f or your last call and the total of all calls. Outgoing The last 20 ou tgoing calls are stored in the Outgoing call log. Revie w the Outgoin g call log for the time and date of the call, as well as other inf ormation .

Calls 61 Store number s fr om call logs Store numbers from your O utgoing , Incomi ng , and Missed call logs to Contacts. Tip: In standby mode, briefly press to display the Recent Calls list. Y ou can then select any call in the list to sav e to Contacts .
62 Messages Y our phone is able to send and receive te xt and picture messages to compatible phones and de vices. T ext messages can be up to 160 characters in length. Before you send te xt messages, it’ s best to cov e r the basi cs of composing them using the text entry modes of Abc, Symbol, 123, and T9 Word.

Messages 67 T9 ® Wo r d T9 W ord recognizes commonly used words f o r the numeric sequence of ke ypresses and inser ts the word into your message. It’ s much f aster than the traditional method of text entr y (Abc) and requ ires only on e ke y press pe r letter of the word that you’ re spe llin g.

92 Setup The Setup menu contains sub menus that allow y ou to configure your displa y , sounds, network pref erences, security options, as well as other settings. Location GPS identifies your location to the network. Y ou can fully enable this setting or set GPS to wor k only when 911 is used.
