6 Install the battery Y our phone comes packaged with a par tially charged rechargeable standard Li-Ion battery and travel adapter . Importan t! The phone can be used while th e batter y is charging, but must be fully c harged the first time you use your phone otherwise y ou could damage the batter y .
Introduction 7 Charge the battery Y our phone is powered b y a rechargeable standard Li-Ion batter y . Only use Samsung-approv ed charging devices and batteries. Samsung accessor ies are designed to maximize batter y lif e. Using other accessories may in validate your warranty and may cause damage.
8 Understand y our phone Antenna A void touching the antenna while the phone is powered up . Contact with the antenna affects t he quality of your calls and may cause the phone to operate at a higher p ower le vel than necessar y .
Understand your phone 9 P ower sa ve mode Unless the backlight setting fo r the LCD has been changed, the backlight dims after a minute of inactivity , and then tur ns off . With P ow er sav e enabled, the backlight fo r the LCD is alwa ys dim. After 15 seconds of inactivity , P ower sa ve turns the backlight off .
10 Right soft key Functions for the right soft k ey ( ) ar e defined by what appears above it in the display . Some function s of the righ t soft ke y are as follows: • Press the right soft key ( ) Back to retur n to the standby mode from any main menu.
Understand your phone 11 Headset connector The headset connector is the input jack f or the optional hands-free headse t. The head set incl udes an earbud and microphone in a conv enient, lightweight unit so you can talk without using your hands.
12 SEND key The SEND key ( ) is used to ans wer calls, dial calls, and to recall the last number (or list of numbers) dialed. • Press once to ans wer calls. • Enter a number and press once to connect a call. • Press once in standby mode to displa y the most recently dialed number .
Understand your phone 13 Service indicator : Indicates a call in progress. When dialing a number , this icon flashes until the call connects. No service indicator : Indicates your phone cannot find a signal because you’ re outside a ser vice area. Y ou cannot make or receiv e calls.

Y our phone ’ s modes 15 Standb y mode Standby mode is the state of your phone once it has f ound ser vice and is in the idle state. Y our phone goes into standby mode: • After you po wer it on. • When you press after a call. When in standby mode, y ou will see the time, da y , and date as well as all other activ e icons.

The last 20 calls you answ ered are stored in an Incoming call log li st and the la st 20 calls you missed are stored in a Missed call log list.

LCD backlight setting T o pro long the life of your battery , the display goes blank when your screen is idle after a period of ti me. The amount of idle time allowed can be adjusted in the Backlight sub menu.

Menu navigation 25 Navigate using a shortcut Y ou can also acce ss the menus and sub menus in y our phone using menu numbers. Using the men u number in conjunction with the left soft ke y ( ) Menu takes y ou dire ctly to the menu or sub menu of your choice .
26 In-Use Menu Y our phone in cludes both a standby menu and an In-Use Menu . The In-Use Menu applies to when you are in a call. 1. Press the left soft ke y ( ) Menu while in a call to display the options listed in the follo wing table . 2. Use the navigation k eys to highlight an option.
Calls 27 Calls The calls menu retains information about Outgoing , Incoming , and Missed Calls. Y ou can also view times f or your last call and the total of all calls. Outgoing Y our phone retains informati on about the last 20 outgoing calls and stores them in the Outgoing call log.
28 Incoming Y our phone retains information about the last 20 Incoming calls and stores them in the Incoming call log. Y ou can review the Incoming call log for the time and date of the call, as well as other information. 1. In standb y mode, press the left soft k ey ( ) Menu , then press , .

32 Caller ID Caller ID allows you to see who is calling you b y disp laying the caller’ s number when the pho ne ring s. If the caller’ s name and number are stored in y our Phonebook, the name also appears in the display . Call Block Y ou can block y our number from being display ed on another phone by enabling the call bloc k feature.
Phonebook 33 Phonebook Y our Phonebook can store up to 500 e ntries. Each entr y can hav e up to fiv e associated phone numbers and two e-mail addresses. Each phone number can be up to 32 digits in length, including h ard pauses, and associated names can be up to 22 characters in length.

Phonebook 37 Rename group Use this option to rename a group in your phone book. 1. In standby mode, press the left soft key ( ) Menu , then press , f or Rename Group . 2. Use the navigation ke y to highl ight the group that you wish to rename, then press .
38 Edit Phonebook numbers Once stored in the Phone book, an entr y can be changed quite easily . 1. In standb y mode, press the left soft k ey ( ) Menu , then press , for Find . 2. Use the navigation ke y to display the search method that you wish to use ( By Name , By Group , or By Entry ).
Phonebook 39 Add pauses When you call automated systems (like banking ser vices), you are often required to enter a pass word or account number . Instead of manually enter ing the numbers each time, you can store the numbers in y o ur Phonebook along with special characters called pau ses.
40 4. Press to enter the highlighted pau se into your number sequence. 5. When you’ re finished entering the number and pauses, press the right soft key ( ) Save to store the n umber in your Phonebook. P ause dial from the Phonebook 1. If you stored the number using (two-second) T pause(s), simply recall the number from the Ph onebook.
Phonebook 41 Tip: Store pauses along with the number if you plan to call the number frequently . Erase individual Phonebook entries 1. In standby mode, press the left soft key ( ) Menu , then press , fo r Find . 2. Use the navigation ke y to display the search method that you wish to use ( By Name , By Gr o up , or By Entry ).

46 Three-touch dialing Memor y locations 100 through 500 are special Three-T ouch dialing locations. For e xample, to dial loca tion number 113, press , , then hold until the n ame and number appear in the display and the number is dialed. My Phone# My Phone# displays the ten-digit number assigned to your phone by V erizon Wireless.
Messages 47 Messages Y our phone is able to send and receive te xt messages to compatible phones and other devices . If a text message ex ceeds 160 characters, it is brok en up and delivered in separate messages, which incur additional cost.
48 Y our current mode of text entr y ( ABC , SYM , 123 , or T9 Wo r d ) is indicated in the lower part of the displa y when composing a te xt message. Change text entry modes 1. While composing a te xt messag e, press the left soft ke y () Option to display a pop-up menu containing the f ollowing options ABC T ext Format Add Me dia Canned Msg 2.
Messages 49 message. It’ s much f aster than the traditional method of text entr y (Abc) and requires only one ke y press per letter of the word that you’ re spelling. 1. In standby mode, press the left soft key ( ) Menu , then press , to compose a new te xt message.

54 Receive messages while in a call When your phone receives a message while in a call, th e ringer sounds, (unless tur ned off), and New Message appears in the display along with the closed env elop e icon ( ). Y ou can view the message without disconnecting your call.

Get It Now 61 Get It No w With Get It Now , you can do wnload full featured applications ov er th e air including games, personalized ring tones, pictures, and more. Send and receive instant messages and email, or browse the web to catch up on all the latest ne ws.
62 5. Select the application you wish to download and follow the online directions. Settings Use the Settings sub menu within Get It Now to manage, mov e, order applications and much more. • A green circle ( ) to the left of an application indicates that application is active (a vailable f or use).
Get It Now 63 Help The Help sub menu within Get It Now is a shor t tutorial on se ver al Get It Now features . View inf or mation about charges, cancelling subscr iptions, buying apps, disabling apps, and more. 1. Within in the Get It Now menu, press the right navigation ke y until the que stion mark ( ) icon is highligh ted.
64 2. Select the app subscriptio n you w a nt to cancel. Demo Apps A Demo app is free and is designed to demon strate the app’ s main features. It usually expires after a cer tain per iod of time or a number of uses and ofte n has limited functions.
Mobile Web 65 Mobile W eb With Mobile Web, y ou can conv eni ently surf the web using your phone. • Each time you launch Mobile Web , your phone connects to the Inter net and the ser vice indi cator icon ( ) appears in the display .
66 Exit Mobile W eb • Press to e xit Mobile W eb . Navigate the web When you use Mobile W eb , some of the keys operate diff erently than during a nor mal pho ne call. Mobile Web presents on-screen items in any of the f ollowing wa ys: • T ext or numeric input.
Mobile Web 67 Using links Links hav e sev eral purposes, such as jumping to a different page, to a diff erent site, or ev en ini tiating a phone call. Links are shown inside of brac kets ([ ]). Y ou can normally use the left soft k ey ( ) to select a link when it is highlighted.
68 Planner Y our phone has a suite of PD A applications such as a Calendar , T o Do List, and Memo P ad. Y ou can schedule ev ents, set reminders, create a to do list, perform calculations, and more with the digital assistant functionality included in th is useful feature.

70 Scheduler Scheduler allows y ou to view the current, past, or future month in a monthly calendar lay out. While viewing the calendar , the current date is hig hlighted and days with scheduled ev e nts are surrounded by a box. View an e vent 1. Planner 71 2. Enter the desired Jump to d at e and press . The calendar month for the date that you specified appears in the display with the current date highlighted. 74 Count Down Count Down allows y ou to view the amount of time between the current date and any e vent that you wish to schedule. Y ou can create up to twenty Count Down e vents. 1. In standb y mode, press the left soft k ey ( ) Menu , then press , for Count Down .
Planner 75 Revie w, add, ed it, and erase Count Down e vents Revie w scheduled Coun t Down ev ents to determ ine how much time remains between the current time/date and any ev ent that you’ve scheduled. Y ou can also add another ev ent, or edit and erase previously scheduled e vents.
76 Alarm Cloc k Y our phone has an alar m clock that can be set to go off once, or daily at a specifi ed time. Once set, the alar m clock is easy to change or tur n off completely .
Planner 77 • If the alar m was set as a Once only a lar m, the alar m icon disappears from the top of the display . T urn off the alarm 1. In standby mode, press the left soft key ( ) Menu , then press , f o r Alarm Clock . The f ollowing options appear in the display .
78 Calculator Y ou can perform cal culations, including addition, su btraction, multiplication, and division using your phone. 1. In standb y mode, press the left soft k ey ( ) Menu , then press , for Calculator . The Calcul ator appears in the display .
Display 79 Displa y Set the menu style, standby mode animation, customize backlight settings, and more using the Display menu. 1. In standby mode, press the left soft key ( ) Menu , then press for Display . The Displa y sub menus listed in the follo wing table appear in the displa y .

82 Contrast Set the display contrast to y our preference. 1. In standb y mode, press the left soft k ey ( ) Menu , then press , fo r Contrast . 2. Use the navigation left/right ke ys to adjust the contrast f or the display to y our preference. Au t o H y p h e n Au t o H yp h e n automatically hyphenates phone numbers as they are entered.
Sounds 83 Sounds The Sounds menu provides a v ar iety of options to customize audio proper ti es for such things as ring ers, k eypad tones , aler ts, shut down sounds, and more. V olume/Vibrate Use the Vo l u m e / Vi brate sub menu to set the default v olume f or incoming calls and alar ms, or set the phone to vibrate.

Sounds 85 Alerts Y ou can set your phone to sound an aler t whenever y ou enter or leav e your ser vice area, connect or disconnect a call , as well as other options. 1. 88 Place a call using V oice Dial 1. In standby mode , press and hold . “ V oice R ecognition! ” appears in the display and “ Please sa y the na me ” is pronounced th rough the ear piece. 2. Say the name of any entry that you hav e tagged. “ Connecting , ” is pronounce d through the ear piece and your phone dials the number .

90 Setup Use the Setup menu to configure your display , modify sounds that your phone and ke ypad generate, network preferences , security optio ns, and more. Location Location identifies your location to the network via GPS. Y ou can fully enab le this setting or set GPS to w ork only in the ev ent that you dial 91 1.

92 Security Use the Security menu to loc k your phone, set up emergency numbers, enab l e or disable v oice pr ivacy , set restrictions, as well as other security options. Lock Phone Locking the phone limits all outgoing calls except calls to 911 emergency and the three user-programmable emergency numbers.
