English 20 HINT About the internal backup ba ttery i This camera’ s internal battery serves to maintain the date and t ime settings, as well as the shooting se ttings . The bac kup batter y will be fully charged when the bat tery pack is kept in th e camera continuously f or about 2 days .

English 22 CA UTION Be careful when remo ving the card i Do not attempt t o forcibly re move the card. i Nev er remov e the card when the camera is connected to a computer or printer , or when the self-timer indicator is flashing quic kly . In doing so , you risk losing the data stored in the card.
23 English TURNING THE CAMERA ON AND OFF T urning on the camera In the shooting mode 1 Press the ON/OFF button. h The camera turns on. h The camera turns on in the shooting mode that w as activ e bef o re it was last turned off. In the pl a y back mode 1 Press the playback button [ = ] for at least one second.

25 English D A TE AND TIME SETTING The camera will record the date and ti me an image is captured so that y ou can display the m during pla yback. Theref ore, befo re capturing images, make sure the correct date and time are se t. Example: T o set the clock to 7:30 p.
English 26 4 Set the date and time. 1 Press the [ n ] or [ o ] bu tton to change the ye ar indication. h Y ou can press the [ m ] button to select the indicati on you wish to change. h Repeat thes e steps to select the month indication and day indication, and set the date to December 24, 2008.

HINT i Under normal conditions, while the batt er y pack is being replaced, an internal battery will maintain the date and time settings.
English 28 BEFORE T AKING PICTURES How to hold the camera Hold the camera secu rely , keeping your elbo ws close to your body and making sure the camera is stabl e. Make sure tha t the lens and flash are not block ed by your fingers or the handstrap .
29 English BEFORE T AK ING PICTURES Using the autof ocus The autofo c us will work in almost all situati ons; howev er, there are certain conditions that may cause the auto focus function to n ot work properly . If the autof ocus function is not working properly , set the focus r ange to capture images (page 61).
English 30 The fo llowing examples are some of the situations where t he autofocus function ma y work, but not as desired. i When both near and far objects are present Use the focus-loc k function to lock the focus on an object at the sa me distance as the desired subject, then reposition the camera to compose the pi cture.
31 English BEFORE T AK ING PICTURES Switching bet ween the shooting mode and playba ck mode Switch between shootin g and pla ying. 1 Press the ON/OFF button to turn the camera on. 2 Press the playback button [ = ]. h Each time the playback button is pressed, the camer a switches between the shooting mode and the pla yback mode.
English 32 How to s witch the shooting mode Y our camera can capture si ngle still photos (single-shot mode), record vi deo clips (video clip recording mode), and also capture a series of still photos (sequential shots mo de). 1 Pres s the ON/OF F button to turn the camera on.

English 34 Adjust the monitor brigh tness The brightness of the monitor is adjustab le. Adjust the brightness to the optimum reada bility in the ambient light. 1 Pres s the ON/OF F button to turn the camera on. 2 Pres s the MENU button for at least 1 second.

English 36 CAPTURING AND PLA YING B A CK STILL IMA GES There are two modes f or captur ing still images. In the single- shot mode, one image is captured each time the shutter button is pressed. I n the sequential shots mode, whe n you press the shutte r b utton, several success iv e images are captured.

English 38 Viewing still images The steps f or viewing both single shots and sequential shots are the same . 5 Pr ess the playback button [ = ]. h If the pla yback button [ = ] was pressed to turn the camera on, ho wev er, press the pl ayba ck but to n [ = ] for at least 1 second.

English 40 Folder pla yback A conv enient way to search through multiple f olders. 1 Acce ss the 9-image display (page 39). 2 Pr ess [W] ([ P ]) on the zoom switch. h The Select F older Screen appears . 3 Se lect the desired folder, and press the OK button.
41 English CAPTURING AND PLA YING BA CK STILL IMA GE S Magnifying ( z ooming in) the image 1 Display the i m age that you want to magnify. 2 Press [T] ([ ] ]) on the zoom switch. h Magnification is enabled. h The image is magnified, and the central portion of image is display ed.
English 42 Zoom jump pla yback Y ou can magnify a por tion of a still image to chec k the accuracy of the focus . 1 Di splay a still image to view using zoom jump playback. 2 Pres s the OK button. h The image is magnified. h If the magnified view appears to be in f ocus, then the ov erall image will be in fo c us .
43 English CAPTURING AND PLA YING BA CK STILL IMA GE S Deleting fil es Y ou can delete files that are stored on the card if yo u no longer need them. Y ou can delete the files one at a time, or all at once . 1 To delete files from the card, perf orm the delete procedure with the card instal led in the cam era.
English 44 <T o delete one fil e> 1 Use the [ l ] and [ m ] buttons to display the file you wish to dele te. 2 Press the [ n ] or [ o ] button to select “1 F ILE”. h There is no confirmation screen when deleting si ngle files. Before pressing the OK bu tton in step 3 , please make sure that the displa yed image is one you wish to delete .
45 English SHOO TING SEQUENTIAL SHO TS When the shutter button is pressed, still images are captured in succession. 1 Set the camera to the sequent ial shots mode (page 32). 2 Press the shutter button to start shooting. h Shooting sequential sh ots begins.

During recording, the length of the vid eo clip and the remaining recording time a vailable are shown on th e monitor.

The audio is no t pla yed back whe n the video clip is play ed back in the frame- by-fr ame, slow pla yback, fast pla yback or re verse pla yback mode.
English 50 USING THE SCENE FUNCTION Y ou can select from a variety of preset sett ings (aper ture, shutt er speed, etc.) fo r specific shooting cond itions. 1 Se t the camera to the shooting mode (page 31), and press the SCENE button. h The screen to select a scene function appears .

English 52 Capture a still ima g e with a v oice memo With the still-image-plus-audio a scene fu nction, you can add an audio trac k (about 10 seconds maximum) to a captured still image . This audio track is called a “voice memo”. 1 On the scr een to select a scene function (page 50), select a , and press the OK button.
53 English USING THE SCENE FUNCTION How to use the best shot f eature 1 Set the camer a to the single-shot mode (page 32). 2 On the screen to select a scene functi on (page 50), selec t 5 , and press the OK button. 3 Press the shutter button. h While the settings cha nge, four still images are shot in sequence .

English 56 USING THE ZOOM Y our camera has two zoom fun ctions: optical zoom and digital zo om. 1 Se t the camera to the shooting mode (page 31), and point the camera len s at the subje ct. 2 Pr ess the zoom switch to compos e the desired ima ge. [T]: Zoom in on the subject.
57 English FLASH SETTING The flash is used not only f or taking pict ures where there is insufficient light, but al so when the subject is in shade or in backlight condition s. Y our camera’ s flash has f our modes of operation ( auto mode , forced fl ash mode, flash off mode and red-e ye reduction mode).

HINT When auto is selected... i The k ico n indicating t he flash setting is not shown on t he Shooting Screen.
59 English SELF-TIMER Self-timer phot ography is a vailabl e in the single-shot mode . 1 Set the ca mera to the single-shot mode (page 32), and press the [ m ] ( ) button. h The self-timer menu appear s. 2 Use the [ n ] a n d [ o ] butt o ns to select the desired s elf-timer setting, and press the OK button.
English 60 HINT i The countdown time until shutter release is shown gra phically on the monitor . T o pause or cancel the self-timer function... i If the shutter button is pressed again before the shutter is released, the self-timer countd own temporarily stops.

67 English RESOLUTION/VIDEO SIZE SETTING By setting the image resolution (pi xels) to a higher setting, image detail is enhanced f or a smoother, fin er picture. Howe ver , the file size also becomes large and uses more memory . Select the resolution setting that suits y our purpose.
English 68 Record and pla y back an audio file In the video clip recording mode , your camera can make audio recordings . The audio recordings are monaura l. k Record an audio file 1 Di splay the Shooting Menu for the video c lip recording mode (page 64).
69 English RESOLUTION/VIDEO SIZE SETTING k Playing back audio recordings 1 Display the desired audio data. h A musical note gr aphic appears on the screen. 2 Play back the recor d ing. HINT i During 5× or faster acceler ated playbac k, the audio is not play ed back.
English 70 COMPRESSION RA TE SETTING Set the data compression rate when shooting image s. Even if the sa m e resolution is use d, you can change the compression setting t o decrease the image data siz e so that you can capture mor e images, or increase the image data size f or no loss in image quality .
71 English FOCUS AREA SETTING Y ou can choose from diff erent types of autofocus: 9-point range finder focus: The correct f ocus is determined from 9 diff erent focus points within the shooting area visible on the monito r. When the image is f ocused, a target mark & appears.
English 72 HINT When spot focus is selected. . . i The focus ma r k + appears in the center of the monitor . When AF seeker is selected... i The f ocus mar k + appears in the center of the monitor . i When the f ocus-lock is activated, the seeker mark appears on the f ocused subject.
73 English LIGHT -MEASURING MODE SETTING Y ou can select from 3 types of light-measuring modes. Multi-section li ght-measuring: The exp o sure is adjusted afte r sampling from m u ltiple areas of the ent ire shooting screen.
English 74 ISO SENSITIVITY With the initial se ttings, the ISO sensit ivity is automatically set acc ording to the brightness of the subject. Howe ver , the ISO sensitivity can be set to a fixed setting. 1 Display t h e Shooting Menu (page 64). 2 Se l ect “ISO” and press t h e OK button.
75 English WHITE B ALANCE This camera automaticall y adjusts the white balance under most lighting conditions. Ho wev er, if y ou want to specify the lighting conditions or ch ange the ov erall tone of the image, the whit e balance can be manually set.
English 76 EXPOSURE CORRECTION When capturing images , you can make the image light er or dar k er. 1 Point the camera lens at the subject, and display the Shooting Menu (page 64). 2 Se l ect “EXP COMPENSATION” and press the OK button. h The screen to adju s t the exposure appears .
77 English D A TE IMPRINT Y ou can choose to hav e the date the image was captured imprinted on t he image. 1 Display the Shooting Menu (page 64). 2 Select “INSERT DATE ON IMAGE”, and press the OK button. h The date imprint menu appears . ON: The date of the capture is imprinted on the image .

English 80 IMA GE PRO TECT Pre vent accidental erasure of dat a. 1 Di splay the data that you want to protect from accidental erasure, and display the Playback Menu (page 78). 2 Se lect “PROTECT” and press the OK button. h The screen to set the protect setting appears .
81 English RO T A T E I M A G E Captured still images can be rotated to the correct orientation for vie wing. 1 Display the im age you wish to rotate, and display the Pl ayback Menu (page 78). 2 Select “R OTATE” and press the OK button. h The screen to rotate the image appears.
English 82 CHANGING IMA GE SIZE (RESIZE) The size of a still image that has al ready been captured at a resolution of t or higher can be changed to 1600 × 1200 pix els or 640 × 480 pixels . The resized image is saved as a separate image. 1 Display the still im age whose size you want to cha n ge, and display the Playback Menu (page 78).
83 English BLUR CORRECTION Correct the eff ects of camera mov ement (camera shake) to produ ce a sharper image. 1 Display the i m age to be modified, and display the Playbac k Menu (page 78). 2 Select “BLUR CORRE C TION”, and press the OK button. h The Blur Correction Screen appears.
English 84 4 I f the modified image is satisfactory, press the OK button. h The screen to sav e the corrected image appears . h T o discontin ue the procedure, press the MENU butt on. The modified image is discarded, and y ou are returned to the B lur Correction Screen.
85 English CONTRAST CORRECTION Add contrast (light an d dark) to an image to mak e it clearer. 1 Display the i m age to be modified, and display the Playbac k Menu (page 78). 2 Select “CONTRAST CORRECT” , and press the OK button. h The Contrast Correct ion Screen appears.
English 86 4 I f the modified image is satisfactory, press the OK button. h The screen to sav e the corrected image appears . h T o discontin ue the procedure, press the MENU butt on. The modified image is discarded, and y ou are returned to the Co ntrast Corr ection Screen.
87 English RED-EYE CORRECTION If you photo graph your subjects at nig h t using the flash, they ma y appear in the image with glowing red ey es (red-eye eff ect). Now you can amend the image so that the subjects’ ey es appear more natural (red-e ye correction).
English 88 4 I f the modified image is satisfactory, press the OK button. h The screen to sav e the corrected image appears . h T o discontin ue the procedure, press the MENU butt on. The modified image is discarded, and y ou are returned to the Red-e ye Correction Screen.
89 English COPY D A T A Images recorded in the camera’ s inter nal memory can be copied to the card, and like wise from the card to the internal memor y . 1 Insert the card in the camer a (page 21). 2 Display the Pl ayback Menu (page 78). 3 Select “FILE COPY” and press the OK button.
English 90 5 Pres s the OK button. h The screen to select t he type of copy appears. h The cop y source image is shown in the backg round on the screen. COPY SINGLE: Copy the data fo r one image. COPY ALL: Copy all the data from the copy source to the cop y destination.
91 English PRINT SETTINGS In addition to using y our pr inter to print out still images captured with y our camera, as with con ventional fi lm, you can hav e prints made at shops offering digital print services.
English 92 HINT About the DPOF format i DPOF (Digital Print Order F ormat) is a print order f or mat. Y ou can connect your camer a to a DPOF-compatible printer to produce y our prints. Y ou can also set the print settings (page 124) for the desired images , and then hav e the reserved ima ges printed automatically .
93 English PRINT SETTINGS Specifying date imprinting and n umber of prints Y ou can specify print settings for each individual image (E ACH IMAGE), or apply the print settings to all the images on the card (AL L IMAGE S ). 1 Display the scr een to set the print settings (page 91).
English 94 4 Spec i fy the number of prints and whether the date is imprinted. h Please specify the n umber of prints bef ore setting the date imprint setting.
95 English PRINT SETTINGS Clearing all the print se ttings Delete the print settings f or all images. 1 Display the scr een to set the print settings (page 91). 2 Select “ALL CLEAR”. 3 Press the OK button. h The Confirm All Clear Screen appears. YES: Clear the print settings f or all images.
