Getting Started 4 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section explains how to start using your Samsung Messager™ II phone by activating your ser vice, setting up your Voicemail, or getting an unders tanding of how this manual is put togethe r .
5 Important!: Y ou must fully charge the battery the first time you use your phone, otherwise you could damage the batter y . 1. Insert the top end of the battery first, matching the gold conta cts on the ins ide of the batt ery to those on the phone.
Getting Started 6 1. Plug the la rge end of the T ravel Adapter i nto a standard 120 V A C or 220 V AC wall outlet. Impo rtant! : For connection to an electrical supply not located in North America, you must use an adaptor of the proper configura tion for the power outlet.
7 2. The phone begins searchin g for a network signal. 3. Once the phone finds a sign al, the time, da te, and day appear near the t op of the display . 4. Y ou’re now read y to pl ace and re ceive calls. Note: If you are outside of your carrier’ s coverage or roaming area, the No Service icon ( ) appears at the top of the phone’ s display .

9 Section 2: Understanding Y our Phone This section outlines some key features of your phone. It also describes the screen format and th e icons that will b e displayed when the phone is in use. Understanding Y our Phone 14 End Key • Press and hold the E nd key to turn on your phone. • Briefly press once to disconnect a call. • Press to return to standby mode from any menu, or to cancel the last input. Send Key The Send key is used to answer calls, dial calls, and to recall the last number(s) di aled, rece ived, or missed.
15 3. The Auto Answer icon appears beneath the curren t date to indicate tha t the Auto Ans wer function is active . (For more information, refer to “Auto Answer” on pa ge 119.) 4. The center portion of the di splay shows information such as call progress informa tio n, messages, and photos.

17 Note: During a phone call, the display backlight dims after 10 seconds and turns off after 30 seconds to conserve battery po wer , regardless of the Backlight setting.
Understanding Y our Phone 18 – Enter the Phone Lock Code (usually th e last four digits of th e phone number assigned to your Samsung Me ssager II). The Security menu appears in the display . – Select Lock Phone ➔ Lock . “ Device lock mod e set ” appears in the display , and you are returned to standby m ode.

Understanding Y our Phone 20 Camera M ode Camera mode lets you activate your phone’ s camera to take pictures. In Camera mo de , you can also adjust the re solution and appearance of your pictures. Note: For more information, refer to “Camera-Camcorder” on page 75.
21 Section 3: Call Functions This section provides procedures for making and answering calls. This section also describes features, such as call logs and call timers, that help you make calls and ma nage you r call time. Note: The procedures in this section can be performed using the phone keypad or the QWERTY keypad.
Call Functions 22 4. When the second party answer s, press to connect all three parties. Man ual Pa use Calling T o manually call a number with pa use(s) without stor ing it in your Contacts list: 1. In standby mode, enter the nu mber you wish to call.

Press the num ber key represent ing the second digit of the desired Contact’ s speed dial number . 3. Press and hold the number key representing the third digit of the desired Contact’ s speed dial number .
Call Functions 24 If Vo ice Dial is not sure whic h name you said , it displays a choic e list of up to thre e names an d promp ts you wit h “ Did you say? ” followed by the first name on the list. 4. Say “ Ye s ” to confi rm the name or “ No ” to hear the next name, or use the k eypad to select t he correct na me from the list.
25 Pause Dialing F r om a Contact s Entr y • If you voice dial a contact that contains 2-Sec Pause(s) simply w ait for the pauses to pass and the dialing to complete.
Call Functions 26 Note: The Vibrate icon ( ) a ppears in the display when the call ringer is set to V ibrate . The Vibrate/Ring icon ( ) appears in the display when the call ringer is set to Vibrate/High . Call Ans w er Select f rom two met hods for answ ering calls.
27 T o ignor e an incoming call: 䊳 While your phone is ringing, press the Ig nore soft key . The incoming call is forwarded to Voicemail. In-Use Menu Y o u can access a number of menus and features even while in a call. 1. While in a ca ll, press t he Options soft key .
Call Functions 28 • T o compose and sen d a message to the calle r , press the Msg soft key . The Send Message screen appears in the displa y . (For more informatio n, refer to “Create and Send T ext Messages” on page 53 or “Send Picture/Video Messages in Standby Mode” on page 56.
29 Missed Calls The last 90 missed calls (calls yo u did not answer) are stored in the Missed calls log. Review the Missed call s log for the time and date of the c all, as well as other information. 1. In standby mode, press the Menu soft key , then select Calls ➔ Missed Calls .
Call Functions 30 1. In standby mo de, press the Menu soft key , the n select Calls ➔ Call Timer . The fol lowing options appear in t he display: • Last Call — Show s the duration of your last call. • Outgoing Calls — Shows the number and total dur ation of al l calls origin ated by y our phone si nce the l ast reset.
31 2. T o reset a timer other than Lifetime Data Counter , highlight the timer you want to reset and press the Reset soft key . 3. T o reset all timers except Lifetime Data Counter , press the Reset All soft key . 4. Press to exit the Data Counter screen.
Menu Navigation 32 Section 4: Menu Na viga tion This section explains the menu navigation for your phone. Menu Naviga tion Access the menus and sub-menus in your phone using the Navigation key ( ), the arrow keys ( , , , ), and soft keys ( or ), or use a shortcut.

Entering T e xt 34 Section 5: Entering T ext This section outlines how to sele ct the desired text entry mode when entering characters using th e phone keypad or the nested, QWER TY keyboard-styl e keypad. Th is section also describ es how to use the T9 p redictive te xt en try system to reduce the number of key stroke s need ed to enter text.
35 Note: T9 Word does not support the QWER TY keypad, which does not need this function. • Abc — Enter letters, nu mbers, and symb ols by using the QWER TY keypad or by repeatedly pressing each pho ne key until the desired character (as shown on the key) appears in the di splay .

39 Tip : T o launch the Contacts menu using a voice command — In standby mode, press and hold until the phone prompts, “ Say a command. ” Say “ Go to Contacts ” into the microphone. 2. Note: If the call was incoming and Caller ID information was una vailable, then the Save option is also unavailable.

51 Memor y Inf o The Memory Info menu option lets you view the amount of memory you have used to store Co ntacts entries, as wel l as the memory remain ing to store more Contacts entries.
@metro 52 Section 7: @metro With @metro, you can download fu ll fe atured applications over the air including games, personaliz ed ring tones, pictures, and more. Y ou can send and re ceive instant messa ges and emai l, or browse the web to catch up on all the latest news.
53 Section 8: Messages This section explains how to send or receive different ty pes of messages. This section also describes the features and functionality associat ed with messaging. Note: Although the procedures in this section are written for the phone keypad, you can also perform these procedures using the QWERTY keypad.
Messages 54 – Edit Send T o — Edit the r ecipient’ s number or email addres s. – Add Quick T ext — In sert pre-composed text in your message. – Save As Draft — Save the message to your Draft folder . – Priority Level — Ch oo se Hig h or Normal .

Messages 58 9. Press the Options soft key t o complete the messa ge text and set message send option s. The following options appear in the display: • Preview — View the pictur e/video as the r ecipient will see it. • Add Quick T ext — Add p re-computes text to your message .
59 3. Once a Picture/Video me ssage has be en downloaded to your phone, the new Picture/Vi deo message appears in the display . If the message incl udes a sound file, th e phone begins playing it. Note: For more information on viewing and managing received picture messages, see “Inbox” on page 60.
Messages 60 Inbo x Received messa ges of all types (exce pt Voicemail) are stored in the Inbox . 1. In standby mode, press th e Messages shortcut (Down naviga tion) key or press the Menu soft key , then select Messages ➔ Inbox . The Inbox appears in the display showing a list of re ceived messages.
61 • T o remove the highli ghted mes sage fro m the Inbox, press th e Erase soft key . • T o review the highlighted me ssage, press OPEN ( o r ) . • For more options, press the Options soft key . The fol lowing options appear in the d isplay: – Reply — Comp ose and send a reply mes sage to the originator of the received message.
Messages 62 Select an option to perform its functio n. Managing Outbox Messages 1. In standby mode, press th e Messages shortcut (Down navigation) key press the Menu soft key , then select Messages ➔ Outbox . Y our list of se nt messages appear in the disp lay .
63 3. Compose your messa ge using either keypad, press the Options soft key , then se lect Save As Draft . “ Message saved ” appears in the display and your message is saved to the Drafts box.
Messages 64 3. Make any needed changes and press the Options soft key . The following options a p pear in the display: • Preview — Shows the message contents. • Add Quick T ext — Inse rt pre-comp osed text into your m essage text . • Save As Draft — Saves th e changed message to the D raft Box.
65 When you’re notified of a new voice mail message by an al ert tone and the new message icon , the following options pop: • Listen Now — Calls your voice mailbox and le ts you listen to your messages. • Listen Later — Returns you to standby mo de where you can choose to call your mailbox and review your messages at a later time.

69 Using MetroWEB When you use MetroWEB, some of the k eys operate diff erently than during a normal phone call . MetroWEB presents on-screen items in an y of the foll owing wa ys: • T ext or numeric input. • Links (embedded in content). • Numbered options (so me may not be numbered).

In camcorder mode, press the soft key , then highlight ( ) and select Memor y . The following storag e options appear in the display: • Phone Memory — Stores videos in phone memor y .
89 • Look here • 1,2,3! 2. Select the desired start sound. Y ou’re returned to the camcorder viewfinder screen. End Soun d Choose from two different soun ds whenever you stop video recording. Aside from bein g a cool sound effect , End Sound acts as an audible reminder that your camcorder has stopped recording a video.
Camera-Camcorder 90 Brightness Brightness lets you te mporarily lighten the pic tures you take or videos you record. Increasing th e Brightness (-4 – +4) ligh tens your pictures or videos (0 is normal). 1. In camera m ode, press the Navigation ke y Up or Down.
