Getting Started 6 Activating Y our Phone 2. Carefully lift t he battery cover away from the bottom of th e phone. 3. Carefully slide the SIM card under the metal bracket and into the SI M card socket until the card locks into place.
7 Inser ting th e Memor y Car d Y our phone supports an optional memory card (microSD ™) for data storage of such things as music, pictures, vide o or other files. This type of memory card is designed for use with this mobile phone and other devices.
Getting Started 8 Activating Y our Phone 2. Gently lift upward on the edge of the memory card cover . 3. Place the microS D card into th e slot (as shown below). Ensure the microSD’ s gold contact pins face do wnward and the card is placed so that the indentations on the c ard face the same direc tion as those illustrated.
9 4. Close and lock the memor y card cover: • (1) close the memory card cover usin g your thumb to push the cover down (as shown below). • (2) slide the memory card cover back into the Lock position. Rem oving the memory car d 1. Repeat steps 1 and 2 (page 7).

Understandi ng Y our Phone 20 Display Layout Icons This list identif ies the symbols you’ll see on your phone ’ s display screen: Displays the received signa l strength. The greater the number of bars, the stronger the signal. Displays the UMA signal strength.
21 Backlight A backlight il luminates the displ ay and the keypad. When you press any key, the backlight comes on. It goes off when no keys are pressed within a giv en period of time, depending on the setting within the Back light menu. The display turns off after one mi nute to co nserve battery power .

Wi-Fi 24 Introducing Y our T -Mobile HotSpot @Home Capable Phone • Connect to Wi-F i while you 're on the go (hotspots) Connect to T -Mobile HotS pot loca tions all across t he U.S. without needing a T -Mobile HotSpot username and pass word as well as any open Wi-Fi access point.
25 What This Mea ns to Y ou When you are not in range of a Wi-F i connect ion, your normal ce llular network ta kes over and keeps you connected. Y our phone switches automati cally from Wi -Fi to cellular when ever it's necess ary to mainta in your conn ection, whether your phone is in Idle mode or in the middle of a n active call .
Wi-Fi 26 Using Wi-Fi If you have a T -Mobile router , select Ye s . This action acquire s the security key or passphrase so that you are not re quired to manually ty pe it into your phone. If you do not have a T -Mobile router , select No . Y ou are then required to enter your key or passphrase.
27 The signal bars are always visible when a ca ll is active. The ba rs change correctly when you are on a call to indic ate which networ k you are on. The na me of your network displays on the idle screen as seen h ere. Connecting to W i-Fi Networks Connecting to Wi-F i networks with your pho ne allows you to mak e calls using Wi-Fi.
Wi-Fi 28 Connecting to Wi-Fi Networks Connect to Wi -Fi from the Av ai lable Networ ks 1. From the idle screen, press the Menu soft key to access Menu mode. 2. Using the Navigation keys, highlight Settings and press the Select soft key to enter the menu.
29 After the network saves to your Saved Networks list, you automatically connect to t hat network each ti me you are with in range (see "Saved Networks" on page 30.
Wi-Fi 30 Connecting to Wi-Fi Networks • V iew details : Displays the details for the currently highlighted Wi-Fi network. This also inc ludes the MA C address of the p hone if needed for MAC addr ess filtering. • Save : Save s the selected network to your Saved Networks List .
31 Sav ed Networks Options In the Saved Netw orks menu, pres s the Options soft key to use the following options: • Edit Details : Allows you to edit the highl ighted Wi-Fi network's parameters. Note that this option is not available f or your T -Mobile-designated Wi-F i network profiles.
Wi-Fi 32 Connecting to Wi-Fi Networks Quick Connect Select the Quick Connect option from the Wi-Fi menu to scan for any avai lable preferred or open Wi-Fi network and connect to the network with the best signal strength.
33 T ur n Wi-Fi On/Off Select the T urn Wi-Fi ON/OFF option from the Wi-Fi menu to activa te/deactiv ate the Wi-Fi feature. Y our phone's de fault state is Wi-Fi On (Act ive Mode). Wi-Fi should be left on to take advanta ge of the seamless transfer between regular c ellular networks.
Wi-Fi 34 Use Get Security Key For T -Mobile routers without encryption en able d, following this sequence turns on WP A and sends the security key to your T -Mobile phone. If encryption is enabled, the light is constantly lit on the T -Mobile router , and the curre nt router settings are sent to the phon e.
35 Y ou can also ente r a security key manuall y in the phone. If connec ting via available networks, the phone prompts you to enter the k ey for WEP or passphrase f or WP A. Y ou can also follow the st eps for manually adding a network seen in a subs equent section of the manual.

41 Making a Call f rom the Phon ebook Y ou can store regularly used phone numbers into the phone’ s memory or onto your SIM card. These entries ar e collectively called the Phonebook. Once you store a number in the Phonebook, you can press only a few key to dial the stored number .
Call Functions 42 Call Records Note: While in Idle mode, press the key to access yo ur call records ( All calls , Missed calls , Incoming calls , and Outgoing calls ). The following Ca ll Record options are a vailable: All calls This menu lets you view th e 90 most recent calls you received, dialed, and missed.
43 • Send mes sage : Allows you to send a T ext message, Picture message, or Voice note back to the missed number . • Save to Phonebook : Stores the number in your Phone memory onto your SIM card, or your SIM card (FDN). • Delete : Allows you to delete the selected number or delete all call records.
Call Functions 44 Silent Mode Call time This menu lets you view the time lo g for calls both ma de and received. Note: The actual time invoiced by T-Mobile may differ fr om times displayed due to network feat ures and servic e plan. The following tim e logs are availabl e: • Last call time : shows the length of your last call.
45 Soft Keys The roles of the soft keys vary dependi ng on the function you are currently using. The labels on the bottom line of the display just above each key indicate t heir current role. Selecting Options T o view the variou s functions an d options available, you must select the one y ou want by: 1.
Call Functions 46 Selecting Functions and Options Options During a Call Y our phone provides a number of control functions t hat ar e available for use during a call. Switching off the Microphone ( Mute) Y ou can temporarily switch your phone’ s mi crophone off , so that the other pe rson cannot hear you.

Understanding Y our Phonebook 66 Adding a New Contact Adding a New Contact Use the following procedures to store a new contact to your Phone or SIM Card. Storing a Number in the Phone’s Memor y The default storage location for saving phone numbers to your phonebook is your phone’ s built-in memor y .

73 Deleting all of the Phonebook Entries Y ou can delete all your entries from your pho ne’ s memory , your SIM card, FDN, or All. Important!: Once Phon ebook entries are deleted, t hey cannot be recovered. 1. In Idle mode, press the Menu soft key to ac ce ss the Menu mode.
Understanding Y our Phonebook 74 Management Default Saving The Def a ult Saving option allo ws you to choose wh ere your contacts are saved. The following opti ons are available : • Phone : n ew phonebook contacts are saved to your phone. Y our phone comes with the default set to Phone memor y .
75 Own Number This function is a memory aid, which yo u can use to check your own phone number if you need to do so. Y ou can assign a name to each of your own phon e nu mbers registered on your SIM card. Y ou can also edit th e names and numbers. Any chan ges made here do not in any way affect the actual subsc ri ber numbers on your SIM card.
Understanding Y our Phonebook 76 FDN List FDN List FDN (Fixed Dial Number) mode , if supported by your SIM ca rd, allows you to restrict your outgoing calls t o a li mited set of phone numbers. The FDN List allo ws you to set up a list of numbers that yo ur phone may dial.

Messages 78 T ext Messages T ext Messages Short Messag e Servic e (SMS) allows yo u to send and receive short text messages to and from other mobile phones. In addi tion, your phone supports the Enhanced Messaging Ser vice (EMS), which e nables yo u to include simple graphics, melodies, and animated images in your messages.
79 • Attach : allows you to attach a Name card, Schedule, Anniversary item, Miscellaneous item, or T ask to your message. • Save to Drafts : save the message to your Phone or SIM card. • Select language : allows you to set the language to English, Français, and Español.
Messages 80 Picture Messages Note: A Picture Messa ging message i s a multimedia prese ntation contained in a single file. It is not a text file with attachments. Y ou must first retrieve a picture messag e from T -Mobile’s network before you can view the message.
81 • Downloaded videos : allows you to select a previously downloaded video file to send in the picture message. •V i d e o s : allows you to select a video from your videos folder . • Memory card : allows you to select an image or video from the memory card.

Messages 84 Inbox When you ente r the Inbox, the lis t of messages displays with the sender’ s phone numbers, or names, if available in your Ph onebook. Af ter you re ad the message, the open envelope icon displays. Tip: Press the Le ft or Right Navigation keys to scroll between Inbox , Outbox , and Drafts .
85 • Forward : allows you to forward the message to another number . • Save address : allows you to extract the sender’ s number and URL, email addresses or phone numbers from the message text, so that you can sa ve them in your phone’ s memor y .

Messages 88 Drafts Drafts This message box stores messages that you ma y want to edit or send at a late r time. When you ente r this menu, the list of messages in the box displays. 1. In Idle mode, press the Menu soft key to access Menu mode. 2. Using the Na vigation keys, scro ll to the Messages icon.

Messages 90 Settings Settings In this menu, you can set up a default text message or a pictur e message. The las t setting you accessed is au tomatic ally activated for sending subseq uent messages. T ext messa ge • Service center : allows you to store or change the number of your message center , which is required when sending messages .
91 Memor y Status Y ou can view the am ount of th e allocated memory and th e memory available f or picture messages. The display shows the t otal space includ i ng the used and free space.
