Getting star ted 12 Removing the SIM or USIM car d and battery 1 Remove the back c over . 2 Pull out the ba tter y . 3 Push the SIM or USIM car d until it disengages from the device , and then pull it out.
Getting star ted 13 Char ging the ba tter y Charge the batt er y befor e using it for the first time . Use the charger to charge the batt er y . A computer can be also used t o charge the device b y connecting them via the USB cable. Use only Samsung-appro ved chargers , batteries, and cables.

By customising these options and deactivating featur es in the background, y ou can use the device longer between charges: • When you ar e not using the device, switch to sleep mode b y pressing the P ower butt on.

22 Basics Indicator ic ons The icons displa yed at the t op of the screen pr ovide inf ormation about the status of the device . The icons list ed in the table below are most c ommon.
Basics 23 U sing the touch scr een Use only fingers to use the t ouch screen. • Do not allow the touch scr een to come int o contact with other electr ical devices . Electrostatic discharges can cause the touch scr een to malfunc tion. • Do not allow the touch scr een to contact water .
Basics 24 Dragging T o mov e an icon, thumbnail, or preview t o a new location, tap and hold it and drag it to the target position. Double -tapping Double -tap on a webpage, map , or image to zoom in a part. Double -tap again to return. F licking Flick left or right to see another panel .
Basics 25 Pinching Spread two fingers apart on a webpage, map , or image to zoom in a part. Pinch to zoom out . Rotating the scr een Many applications allo w display in either por trait or landscape orientation. Rotating the device causes the display t o automatically adjust to fit the new scr een or ientation.
Basics 26 Star t screen The Start screen is the star ting point to acc ess all of the device ’ s featur es. It displays indicator icons, shortcuts to applications , and others. Basics 29 Changing language ke yboards Y ou must add language keyboards to enter te xt in other languages. On the Applications screen, tap Settings , scroll to syst em , tap keyboar d → add keyboar ds , and then select the language keyboards . T ap the language key to change language keyboar ds.
Basics 30 Joining W i-F i netw orks On the Applications screen, tap Settings , scroll to syst em , tap Wi Fi , and then drag the Wi Fi networking switch to the right. Selec t a network from the list of det ected Wi-F i net works , enter a password if nec essar y , and then tap done .
Basics 31 T ransf erring files Move audio , video , image, or other types of files from the devic e to the computer , or vice versa. The f ollowing file f ormats are supported by some applications. Some file f ormats are not suppor ted depending on the version of the devic e’ s sof tware.

33 C ommunication Phone Use this application to make or answ er a call. T ap Phone on the Applications screen. Mak ing calls Mak ing a call Use one of the f ollowing methods: • history : Make a call from the history of incoming and outgoing calls.
Communication 34 During a call The f ollowing actions are available: • hold : Hold a call. T ap hold again to retriev e the held call. • add call : Dial a second call. • : Open the keypad. • speaker : Activate the speakerphone . Keep the device aw ay from y our ears when using the speakerphone.
Communication 35 Rejec ting a call When a call comes in, tap ignore , or press and hold the headset button. Aut omatically rejecting calls from unw anted numbers On the Applications screen, tap Settings , scroll to syst em , tap call blocking , and then enter a number or select one from the contacts list.

44 Media Music+V ideos Use this application to list en to music and play videos or podcasts. T ap Music+V ideos on the Applications screen. • Some file formats are not supported depending on the device ’ s soft war e version. • Some files may not play pr operly depending on the encoding used.
Media 45 Crea ting playlists Make an own selection of songs. While playing a music , tap → sav e as playlist , enter a title , and then tap . Pla ying videos Selec t a video category , and then selec t a video to play . Restar t the current video or skip to the previous video .
