16 Assemble and prepare your device Before you can use your device, you must install the SIM or USIM card, install the battery, an d charge the battery. Installing a SIM or USIM car d is optional, but may be r equired to fully utilise some ap plications and store media files.

18 Charge battery 1 Open the cover to the multifunction jack on the top of the device. 2 Plug the small end of the travel adapter into the device. 3 Plug the large end of the travel adapter into a power outlet. 4 When charging is finished, un plug the travel adapter from the power outlet.
19 Insert a memory card (optional) By inserti ng a memory card, you can store multimedia files and messages or back up your impo rtant information. Your device accepts microSD™ or microSDH C™ memory cards up to 32 GB (depending on memory card manufacturer and type).
20 Attach a hand strap (optional) 1 Remove the battery cover . 2 Slide a hand strap through the slot and ho ok it ov er the s mall projection. 3 Replace the battery cover .
21 T urn on your device for first time 1 Press and hold [ ] to tur n on your device. 2 Follow the on-scr een instructions. Y our device will automatically connect to the cellular network. Activate Sleep mode You ca n activa te Sleep mode to save power when you do not use your device.
22 Use the touch screen You can perform the following ac tions on your device's touch screen: • Tap: Touch the screen once to select commands or launch applications. • Tap-and-hold: Tap and hold an item to see a list of available actions. Tap the action you want to perform on the pop-up menu.
23 Disable wire less functions 1 Ta p Start > Settings . 2 On the Basic Settings tab, tap General Sett ings > Wirel ess Manager . 3 Ta p next to Phone . • Your device will show on the Today screen. To enable wireless funct ions, repeat steps 1-3 above.
24 Customise your device Learn to change themes and background images, add or remove items, and adjust the sy stem volume from the Today screen. Change your theme or background image 1 Ta p Start > Settings . 2 On the Basic Settings tab, tap Display and Light .
25 3 Ta p Items on T oday . 4 T ap the check boxes next to each item you want to display on the T oday screen. 5 Ta p Done . Use Work mode and Life mode You can use a different theme an d background image for Work mode and Life mode. To change settings for each mode, 1 Ta p Start > Mode Manager .
26 Assign categories to each mode You can filter the d ata in the phonebook, call lo g, schedule, and message menus according to the categories you have assigned to each mode. 1 Ta p Start > Settings . 2 On the Basic Settings tab, tap General Settings > Data Filter .
27 Adjust the system volume To adjust the system volume, press the Volume key up or down. Activate Etiquette pause You can temporarily pause the music player or mute event alarms by placing the device face down when Etiquette pause is activated. To activ ate Etiquette pause, 1 Ta p Start > Settings .
28 Use W idgets Use wid gets on th e Today s creen . Widgets are user friendly shortcuts to c ommonly used a pplications allowing you to customise the Today screen. Open the widget toolbar Tap the arrow at the bottom left of the Today screen to open the widget toolbar.

30 Drag the widgets to the Today screen 1 Open the widget toolbar . 2 Drag a widget from the widget toolbar to the T oday screen. Y ou can position the widget anywhere on the screen. Customise widgets 1 Open the widget toolbar . 2 Ta p at the top of the widget toolbar .

35 You can tap the input panel icon at any time to show or hide the input panel. You can also use the external QWERTY ke yboard. W hen you need to enter text, right s lide open the device. Use the QWERT Y keyboard a s you would with the P C’s keyboard .

40 Enter text with Transcriber With Transcriber, you can write anywhere on the screen. Un like Letter Recognizer or Block R ecognizer, you can use cursive (joined-up) handwriting to write complete words. 1 T ap the input panel icon. 2 T ap the arrow next to the input panel icon and select T ranscriber .

43 Search for a contact card 1 Ta p Start > Phonebook . 2 Ta p . 3 T ap a few letters of the contact's name. • As you enter letters, the screen will show con tacts that match your input.

48 Answer a call 1 Press [ ] . 2 For a video call, tap Show me to allow the caller to see you via the front camera lens. 3 T o end the call, pr ess [ ] . Reject a call Press [] . When you reject a call, the caller will hear a busy tone. Adjust the call volume To adjust the call volume, press the Volume key up or down during a call.
49 3 Ta p a n d h o l d t o i n s e rt t h e + character (this replaces the international access code). 4 T ap the number keys to enter the com plete number you want to dial (country code, area code, and phone number), and then tap or press [ ] to dial.
50 3 Scr oll through the call log. • To make a call, tap next to the number you want to dial. • To check the call time, tap Menu > Call Timer . Tap to reset the call time. • To only display the calls from or to the contacts of the categories assigned to the current mode, press the Mode switch key.

View messages You can access messa ge folder s for all your messaging accounts (email, SMS, and MMS).
54 Multimedia Learn to capture phot os and videos, listen t o music, and take advantage of your device 's multimedia features. Camera Your device allow s you to take digital photos or recor d videos. Capture a photo 1 Press the Camera key . 2 Rotate the device anti-clockwise to the landscape orientation.

60 4 Aim the camera lens at your subject and press the Camera key . • The device recognises faces in an image and detects when your subjects smile. When all your subjects are smiling, the camera will automatical ly capture the photo. Create a photo mosaic 1 Press the Camera key .
61 6 Repeat step 5 to capture the r est of the shots. When you have captured all the shots necessary for the mosaic, the camera will automatically combine them into one photo. Capture panoramic photos 1 Press the Camera key . 2 Rotate the device anti-clockwise to the landscape orientation.
62 5 Slowly move the device to a di r ection. The device captures the next photo automati cally . 6 Repeat step 5 to capture the r est of the shots. When you have captured all the shots necessary for the panoramic photo, the camera will automatically comb ine them into one panoramic phot o.

71 FM Radio You can listen t o your favourite stations with FM radio. Listen to the FM radio 1 Plug a headset into the headset jack. 2 Ta p Start > FM Radio . 3 Ta p OK to scan radio stat ions automatically . 4 Ta p Done twice. 5 Ta p to tur n on the radio (if necessary).
72 Save radio stations by automatic tuning 1 From the radio scr een, tap Scan > Ye s (if necessary). 2 When the scan is complete, tap Done twice. Save radio stations manually 1 From the radio screen, scr oll to the radio station you want to save. 2 T ap one of the symbols near the bottom of the scr een.
73 Record the FM radio 1 From the radio scr een, tap Menu > Record to recor d the current station. 2 When you are finished, tap Stop . The recor ded file is saved in My Storage > FM Radio . V ideo Editor With Video Edit or, you can edit or make videos by combining photos o r videos.

Install ActiveSync on your computer Before you can synchronise your data, you must install ActiveSync, either from the supp l ied CD-ROM or the Microsoft website (http://w ww.
79 Connect your device to a computer 1 Ta p Start > Settings . 2 On the Basic Settings tab, tap General Settings > USB Connecti on > ActiveSync . 3 Ta p Done . 4 Connect one end (mini-USB) of the PC data cable to the multifunction jack on yo ur de vice and the other end to the USB port on your computer .
