Assembling 11 Install the SIM or USIM card and batt er y When you subscribe to a c ellular ser vice, y ou will receive a Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card, with subscription details, such as y our personal identification number (PIN) and optional ser vices.
Assembling 12 When you insert two USIM cards for a UM TS network into y our device, the car d in the secondary slot will be used for a GPRS network. SIM card 2 SIM card 1 The antenna is loca ted in the upper area on the back of the device. Do not r emov e the protective tape co vering the antenna, as this can damage the ant enna.
Assembling 13 Charge the ba tter y Before using the devic e for the first time , you must charge the battery . Y ou can charge the device with a trav el adapter or by connecting the device to a PC with a USB cable. Use only Samsung-appro ved chargers and cables .
Assembling 14 Plug the large end of the tra vel adapt er into a pow er 2 outlet. Y ou can use the device while it is charging, but it ma y ● take longer to fully charge the batt er y . While the device is charg ing, the t ouch screen ma y ● not function due to an unstable power supply .
Assembling 15 Charge with a USB cable › Before char ging , ensure tha t your PC is turned on. Plug one end (micro-USB) of the USB cable into the 1 multifunction jack . Plug the other end of the USB cable into a USB port on a 2 PC. Depending on the type of USB cable you are using , it may take some time bef ore charg ing begins .
Assembling 16 Remove the back co ver . 1 Inser t a memor y card with the gold- coloured c ontacts 2 facing down. Push the memory card in the memor y card slot until it 3 locks in place. Replace the back cov er . 4 Remov e the memor y card › Before r emoving a memor y card, first unmount it f or safe remov al.
Assembling 17 F ormat the memor y card › F or matting your memory card on a PC may cause incompatibilities with y our device. F ormat the memor y card only on the device. In Idle mode, select → Settings → SD card and phone storage → Unmoun t SD card → OK → F ormat SD card → F ormat SD card → Erase ev er ything .

Y ou can activate or deactivate wireless connection featur es and access a list of notifications , such as messages, calls , events or pr ocessing status .

Getting star ted 35 Selec t a wallpaper for the idle scr een › In Idle mode, press [ 1 ] → W allpaper → an option. Select an image. 2 Select 3 S ave or S et w allpaper → a SIM or USIM card . Samsung is not responsible f or any use of default images or wallpapers pro vided on your device .
Getting star ted 36 Set an unlock pattern In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Settings → L ocation and security → Set screen lock → P attern . Getting star ted 37 Lock y our SIM or USIM card › Y ou can lock your device by activating the PIN supplied with your SIM or USIM car d. In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Settings → L ocation and security → Set up SIM card lock .
Getting star ted 38 Select 3 Sign in , enter y our email address and passwor d for your Samsung accoun t, and select Sign in . T o creat e a Samsung account, select Sign up . Select 4 Alert message recipients . Enter the passw ord f or your Samsung acc ount again and 5 select OK .

Select a SIM or USIM card 2 → the name of the SIM or USIM ca rd. Select 3 Selec t icon → an icon. Select 4 Register name , change the name for the SIM or USIM card , and select OK .
Getting star ted 40 Enter t ext Y ou can enter text by pressing keys on the QWERT Y keyboard, by selecting characters on the vir tual keypad, or by inputting handwriting on the screen. Y ou cannot enter text in some languages. T o enter text, you should change the writing language to one of the suppor ted languages.
Getting star ted 41 Enter text by selecting alphanumeric keys or writing on 2 the screen. Search for a file or applica tion and download it. 2 T o install applications downloaded fr om websit es other than Android Market, you must select Settings → Applications → Unknown sour ces → OK .
Getting star ted 46 Activat e automatic sync › In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Settings → A ccounts and sync . Select 2 Aut o sync . Select an account. 3 Select the applications you want to synchronise . 4 T o ex clude applications from aut omatic synchronisation, clear the check box es nex t to the applications you wan t.
Communication 47 C ommunication Calling Learn to use calling functions, such as making and answering calls, using options av ailable during a call or customising and using call-relat ed featur es. › Make or answ er a call Y ou can use the buttons or the touch screen when you make , accept, end or r eject calls.
Communication 48 Answ er a call When a call comes in, drag 1 in any dir ection until it reaches the bor der of the circle . When the device is ringing , press the V olume key to mute the ringtone . Communication 51 Use additional f eatur es › Y ou can use various other call-related fea tures , such as F ixed Dialling Number (FDN) mode or call diverting. Use F ixed Dialling Number (FDN) mode In FDN mode, your device will r estr ict outgoing calls, ex cept for the numbers stor ed in the FDN list.
Communication 52 Set call waiting Call waiting is a network f eature t o aler t you of an incoming call while you ar e on a previous call. This featur e is available only for calls . In Idle mode, open the application list and select Settings → C all settings → Additional settings → a call type → Call waiting .
Communication 53 Messaging Learn to cr eate and send t ext (SMS) or multimedia (MMS) messages, and view or manage messages y ou have sen t or receiv ed. Y ou may incur additional charges for sending or receiving messages while outside y our home ser vice area.
Communication 54 Add r ecipients of your message . 3 Enter phone numbers or email addr esses manually , ● separating them with a semicolon or a c omma. Select phone numbers or email addresses from the lists ● by selecting options under the recipient field.
Communication 55 Listen to v oice mail messages › If you have set missed calls t o be diverted to the voice mail ser ver , callers may leav e voice messages when y ou do not answer incoming calls .

Communication 58 Send an email message › 1 In Idle mode, open the application list and select Email → an email account. Pr ess [ 2 ] → Compose . Add r ecipients of your message . 3 Enter email addr esses manually , separating them with a ● semicolon or a comma.
Communication 59 V iew an email message › When you open an email ac count, y ou can view previously retrieved emails offline or c onnect to the email ser ver to view new messages. After r etrieving email messages, you can view them offline. In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Email → an email account.
Communication 60 Add friends t o your friend list › In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 T alk . The friend list shows all of y our Google T alk contacts at a glance. Pr ess [ 2 ] → A dd friend . Enter an email addr ess of the friend and select 3 Send invita tion .
Entertainment 61 Ent er tainment Camer a Learn how t o capture and view photos and videos . Y ou can take photos at r esolutions up to 2048 x 1536 pix els (3.2 megapixels) and videos at r esolutions up to 320 x 240 pixels . T o use this fea ture , you must first insert a memor y card.

Connectivity 95 C onnec tivity Bluetooth Bluetooth is a short-range wireless communications technology capable of ex changing inf ormation over a distance of about 10 m without requiring a ph ysical connection. Y ou do not need to line up the devices to beam information with Bluetooth.
