Assembling 10 Inser t the SIM card . 3 Place the SIM card into the devic e with the gold- • colored contacts facing up . If you do not insert a SIM card, you can only use • your device ’ s non-net work services and some menus. Do not insert a memor y card into the SIM card • slot.
Assembling 11 Charge the batt er y Before using the device f or the rst time, you must charge the battery. Y ou can charge the device with the pr ovided travel adapter or by connecting the device to a PC with a PC data cable. Use only Samsung-approved char gers and cables.
Assembling 12 Plug the large end of the trav el adapter into a pow er 3 outlet. Y ou can use the device while it is charging , but it • may take longer to fully charge the battery . Wh ile cha rg ing , t he d evi ce m ay h eat u p. This • is norma l an d s houl d n ot a e ct yo ur d evi ce ’ s lifespan or performance.
Assembling 13 Inser t a memory card (optional) T o store additional multimedia les, y ou must inser t a memory card. Y our device accepts microSD ™ or microSDHC ™ memo r y card s wit h max imum capa citie s of 16 GB (depending on memory card manufacturer and type).
Assembling 14 › Remove the memory card Ensure that the device is not currently using the 1 memory card. Remove the back cov er . 2 Push the memory card gently until it disengages from 3 the device. Pull the memory card out of the memory card slot. 4 Remove the memory card.
Assembling 15 Attach a hand str ap (optional) Remove the back cov er . 1 Slide a hand strap through the hand strap hole and 2 hook it over the small projection. Replace the back cover . 3 › F ormat the memor y card Formatting y our memor y card on a PC may cause incompatibilities with your device .

Getting started 21 Flick: Flick the scr een quickly to activate an application. • Area zoom: Place two ngers on the scr een and pull • them apart to zoom in or squeeze them together to zoom out. Y our device turns o the touch screen when y ou • do not use the device for a specied period.
Getting started 22 Select a menu or application. 3 Press [ 4 ] to return to Idle mode. Y our device has a built-in motion sensor that • detects its orientation. If you rotate the device while using some features , the inter face will automatically switch to landscape view .

Getting started 27 Adjust the brightness of the displa y › In Menu mode, select 1 Settings → Display and light . Drag the slider under 2 Brightness to adjust the level of brightness. Select 3 Set . The brightness level of the display will a ec t how quickly the device consumes battery power .
Getting started 28 Once the PIN lock is enabled, you must ent er the PIN each time you turn on the device. If you enter an incorrect PIN too many times , your • SIM card will be blocked. Y ou must enter a PIN unlock key (PUK) to unblock the SIM card.
Getting started 29 Enter te x t Y ou can enter text by selecting characters on the virtual keypad or by inputting handwriting on the screen. Change the text input method When you tap the text input eld, the input panel with the QWERT Y keyboard appears by default.

Entertainment 48 Entertainment Camera Learn how to capture and view phot os and videos. Y ou can tak e p hoto s at r esolu tion s u p to 2048 x 1 536 pix els (3.2 mega pixels) and videos at resolutions up t o 320 x 240 pixels. Phot os are saved in jpg format and videos are sav ed in mp4 format.

Y ou can simply select the proper mode for your shooting condition and subjects. For e xample, when you take photos at nigh t, select the night mode that uses an extended exposure.
