Your phone 12 Ends a call. When pressed and held, switches the phone on or off . In Menu Mode, cancells your input and returns to Idle Mode. When pres sed and held in Idle Mode , quickly accesse s your voice mail server . Enter numbers, letters and some special char acters.
Your phone 13 Display Display layout The display has three areas: (on the right s ide of the phone) When pre ssed and held, t urns t he camera capture mode on. In capture mode, works as a camera shutter . Area Description First line Displays va rious icons.
Your phone 14 Icons Icon Description Shows the received signal strength. The more the number of bars, the stronger the signal. Appears when a call is in progress. Appears when you are out of a service area. When it displays, you cannot make or receive calls.
Your phone 15 Appears when you are connected to the GPRS network. Appears when your S IM card supports the Call diverting status indic ation and the Call dive rting feature is a ctivate d. When your SIM card supports ALS (Alternate Line Service), this icon may appears wi th the number 1, 2, or both.
Your phone 16 Backlight The display and the k eypad are illuminated by a backli ght. When you pre ss any key , the backl ight illuminates. It turns off if you don’t press any key withi n a given peri od of time , dependi ng on the Backlight menu optio n.
Your phone 17 Built-in antenna Y our phone has a built-in antenna. As with other mobile radio tr ansmitting equipment, do not touch the antenna unnecessarily when the phone is switched on. Contact with the antenna affects call quality and may cause the phone to oper ate at a higher power level than ne eded.
18 Getting started Inserting/Removing the SIM card When you subscribe to a cellular network, you are provided with a SIM card loaded with your subscription details, such as your PIN, an y optional services av ailable and so on. • K eep all miniature SIM cards out of the reach of small ch ildren.
Getting started 19 Removing the SIM card T o remove the SIM card, sl ide the card out of the holder , as shown. Installing/Removing/Charging the battery Y our phone is powered by a rechargeable Li-ion battery . Use only approved batteries and chargers.
Getting started 20 2. Press the battery against the back of the phone until it clicks i nto place. Removing the battery 1. Switch off the phone by pressing and ho lding the key . 2. T o remove the batte ry , pull the battery catch toward t he top of the phone and hold it in th at position.
Getting started 21 Charging the batt ery by using the trav el adapter Note : The phone can be used whi le the battery i s being charged, but this causes the battery to charge mo re slowly . 1. Plug the connector o f the tra vel adap ter into the jack at the bottom of the phone.
Getting started 22 3. When charging is finished, disconnect the adapter from the pow er outlet and from the phone by pressing the grey tab s on both sides of the connector and pulling the connector out.
Getting started 23 Switching the phone on or off T o switch the phone on: 1. Hold down the key until the phone switches on. 2. If the phone asks for a PIN, enter the PIN and press the Ok soft key . For further details, see page 167. The phone searches for your network and the current date and tim e a ppear on the displa y .
Getting started 24 Selecting functions and options Y our phone offers a set of functions that allow you to customise your phone. These functions are arranged in menus and sub-menus, accessed via the two soft k eys marked and Each me nu and sub-menu allows yo u to view and alter the settings of a particular function.
Getting started 25 T o view various functions/op tions available or select the one is requi red: 1. Press the appropriate soft key . In some functions, you may be asked for a password or PIN. 27 Call functions Making a call Using the number ke ypad When the idle screen is displayed, ente r the area code and phone number , and press the key . Note: If you have set the Auto redial option to On , the number is redialled au tomatically up to ten times if the p erson you called does no t answer or the line is busy .
Call functions 28 Making an internation al call 1. Press and hold the 0 key for the international prefix. The + character appears. 2. Enter the country code, area code and pho ne number and press the key .

Call functions 30 Speed-dialling from Phone book Once you have stored numbers in the Phonebook, you can dial a number simply by pressing one or two key s. For further d etails, see page 60. Ending a call When you want to finish your call, briefly press the key or slide the folder down.
Call functions 31 Adjusting t he volume During a call, if you wish to adjust the earpiece volume, use the v olume k eys on the l eft side of the phone. When you hear a sound, such as ringtone, you can also adjust the earpie ce volume . But it is not fixed.
Call functions 32 Switching the microphone off (Mute ) Y ou can temporarily switch your phone’ s microphone off so that the other person cannot hear you. Example : Y ou may wish to say something to another person in the room but do not want the calling person to hear y ou.
Call functions 33 3. Select the Find name option and press the Select soft key . The Phonebo ok entries are l isted. 4. Enter the first a few letters of the name that you want to find. The Phonebo ok entries are l isted starting with the first entry matching y our input.
Call functions 34 T o send the D TMF tones: 1. When you are connected to the teleservice system, press the Opti ons soft k ey . 2. Press the Up or Down k ey to highlight the Send DTMF option. Press the Select soft key . 3. Enter the number you wa nt to send and press the OK soft k ey .
Call functions 35 The phone turns on the voiceclarity feature automatically after a while when you are in a noisy place and the voiceclari ty is set to on. Turn on / off the voiceclarity 1. Press the Options soft key . 2. Press the Up or Down key to highlight the Voiceclarity on / Voiceclarity off option.
Call functions 36 2. Press the key to dial the s econd call. The first call is autom atically put on hold. Or alternatively: 1. Put the current call on hold by pressing the Hold soft key . 2. Make the sec ond call in the normal w ay . T o switch between the two calls, sim ply press the Swap soft key .

Call functions 38 4. T o add a new person to the multi-party call, call the person in the normal way . Then press the Optio ns soft key and select the Join option. Press the Select soft k ey . Y ou can add incoming callers by answering the call and selecting the Join option.
Call functions 39 Having a private conversation wit h one participant 1. Press the Options soft key and select the Split option. Press the Select soft k ey . 2. Press the Up or Down key to highlight a participant and press the Selec t soft k ey . Now you can talk priv ately with that person.
Call functions 40 Using the ear-microphone With the ear-microphone, you can mak e or answer a call without holding the phone. When you connect the ear-microphone to the jack at the right si de of the phone, the button on the ear-microphone w orks as listed below: To Press redial the last call the button twice in Idl e Mode.
41 Entering text At many times while you are using y our phone, you need to enter text, such as whe n storing a name in the Phonebook, writing a new message, creating your personal greeting or scheduling events on your calendar .
Entering text 42 Changing the text input mode When you are in a field that allows char acters to be entered, you will see the text input m ode indicator at the bottom of the display . Example : Entering a name in the Phonebook T o change to another text input mode: 1.
Entering text 43 Quickly changi ng the text input mo de Using the T9 mode T o type a word in the T9 mo de: 1. Start entering the word by pressing keys 2 to 9 . Press each key only once for each letter . Example : T o enter “hello” in the T9 mode, press the 4 , 3 , 5 , 5 , and 6 key s.
Entering text 44 If Spell appears above the left soft key while you are entering text, the word does not exist in the T9 dictionary . T o type words not found in the T9 mode, change the text input mo de to the ABC mode, or proceed as follows: 1. Press the Spell soft key , or press the right soft key and select the Add word option.
Entering text 45 Inserting a space T o insert a space between words, press the key . Entering a nu mber directly T o enter a number , press and hold the number key . Scrolling T o mov e the curs or to the left, rig ht, up or down within the text, press the navigation keys.
Entering text 46 Note : The cursor moves to the rig ht when you press a different key . When entering the same letter twice or a differ ent lett er on the same key , just press the Right key or wait a few seconds f or the cursor to move to the right autom atically , and then enter the next letter .
Entering text 47 Changing the case T o change the case of the next letter(s) that you type, press the key . There are three cases: • Lower Case (no indicator) • Initial Capital ( ) • Capital Lock ( ) Inserting a space T o insert a space between words, press the key .
Entering text 48 Using the symbolic mode The Symbolic mode enables you to enter symbols i n your t ext. Using the number mode The Number mode enables you to enter numbers in your text. 49 Using the menus The phone offers a rang e of functions that allow you to tailor the phone to your needs. These functions are arranged in menus and sub-menus. Accessing a menu function The menus and sub-menus can be accessed by pressing the Menu or Phonebook soft key in Idle Mode, then scrolling with the navigation k eys.

56 Phonebook menu Phonebook offers the following features: • Phonebook : allows you to find, create or set up the speed-dialling feature and manage Phonebook entries. • Management : allows y ou to create or remov e your own number , set up caller groups and check the memory status.
Phonebook menu 57 Changing the phone memory entries Scroll to the c ategory that y ou want to edit by pressing the Left or Right key . Foll ow in g ca te gor ie s are available and yo u can edit information of each category by pressing the Opti ons soft key .
Phonebook menu 58 Changing the SIM me mory entries T o change the SIM memo ry entry’s information, press the Options soft key . The following options are availab le: Edit number This option allows you to change the number . Y ou can also add a new number if none has been stored for the selected category .
Phonebook menu 59 Add entry Y ou can store phone numbers and the corresponding names in the memory of your SIM card. In addition, you can store up to 1000 names in the p hone memory and each name ca n be associated with up to five numbers. 1. Enter the number you want to save.
Phonebook menu 60 6. When you are satisf ied, press the Ok soft k ey . 7. If you select Phone in step 3, go to step 8. If you select SIM in step 3, enter the location number and press the Ok soft key . 8. If you want to change the entry , use the options.

Phonebook menu 62 Dialling a nu mber stored in the SIM ca rd Once you have stored phone numbers in your SIM card, you can dial them easil y whenever required. T o dial a number stored in the SIM card: 1. Enter the number of the SIM card location w here the number you want to dial is stored.
Phonebook menu 63 Send all via infrared Via the infrared connection, you can send your Phonebook entries to another IrDA- com pliant devices and vice versa. Note : This feature may not be available depending on the devices. Sending your phonebook 1. Align the IrDA po rts on both sides each other .
Phonebook menu 64 Receiving phonebook from another device 1. Align the IrDA po rts on both sides each other . 2. Access the Infrared activa tion menu (see page 160) and se lect On to activ ate the port.
Phonebook menu 65 Delete all Y ou can delete Phonebook entries selectively depending on the memory location, or a ll entries at once. 1. Scroll to a desired memory selection and place a check mark ahead of it by pressing the Sele ct soft key . Selecti ng All places check marks on all of the memories.
Phonebook menu 66 Own number T o store your own phone number(s) with a name: 1. Scroll to an empty location by pressing the Up or Down key and press the Select soft k ey . 2. When Edit number highlights, press the Select soft key . 3. Enter your number and press the Ok key .
Phonebook menu 67 Group setting Y ou can change the settings of the ten predefined caller groups. 1. Select a caller group by pressing the Up or Down key and press the Select soft key . 2. Scroll to a se tting option b y pressing the Up or Down key and press the Select soft key .
Phonebook menu 68 Memory status Y ou can check how many names are stored in SIM card and phone’s m emory . When you have fin ished, pr ess the soft key or the key to exit. Service directory Note : This feature may not be available depending on your SI M card.
69 SAT (SIM Application Toolkit) If you use a SA T card that provides additional services, the SA T menu displays. F or further details, see your SIM card instructions.
70 Call records Via this menu, you can view the: • calls you missed, received or dialled. • cost of your calls. • length of your calls. Note : Y ou can access the numbers in the three types of call records by pressing the key in Idle Mode.
Call records 71 By pressing the Options soft key , you can also: • delete the current call record from t he list. • delete all of the calls. • paste the number into Phonebook. Dialled calls This op tion le ts you vi ew the la st 20 di alled numbers.
Call records 72 Call time This option lets y ou view the timers for ca lls made and received. Notes: • If your SIM card supports the AL S (Alternate Line Service) feature, yo u must first select the appropriate line.
Call records 73 The following options are availab le: Last call cost : cost of the last call made. Total cost : total cost of all calls made since the cost counter was last reset. If the total cost exceeds the maximum cost set via t he Set max cost option, you can no longer make any calls until you reset the counter .
74 Network services These menu functions are network services. Please contact your service provid er to check their av ailabilit y and subs cribe to them , if yo u wish. Call diverting Note : The call divert options ma y be different depending on you r SIM card and those not supported by y our network oper at or may not be shown.
Network services 75 • Data calls on ly (not av ailable when line 2 is in use) Example : Y ou can: • systematical ly divert f ax calls to y our office fax machine. • diver t voice c alls t o your co lleagu e if you are already using the phone. Setting ca ll divertin g options 1.
Network services 76 Deactivating specific c all divert ing options 1. Select the call diverting op tion to be deactiv ated. 2. Select the type of calls to which this opti on applies. 3. Press the Remove soft key . The phone sends your settings t o the network and displays the network’ s acknowledgement.
Network services 77 Cancel all : all call barring options are deact ivate d; calls can be made and received normally . Change barring password : allows you to chang e barring password.
Network services 78 Deactivating specific c all barring o ptions 1. Select the call barri ng option to be deactiva ted. 2. Select the type of calls to which this opti on applies. 3. Press the Deactivate soft key . 4. Enter your call barring password supplied by your servic e provider .
Network services 79 Call waiting This network servic e informs you w hen someone is trying to reach you during another call. Y ou can specify individ ual call waiti ng options for each of the fo llowi.
Network services 80 Network select ion The Network selection feature enables you to automatically or manually select the network used when roaming outside your home area. Note : Y ou can select a network other than your home network only if it h as a val id roaming agreement with your home network.
Network services 81 Caller ID Y ou can prevent your phone number from being display ed on the phone of the p erson being called. Note : Some networks do not allow the user to change this setting. The following options are availab le: Default : the default setting pro vided by the network is used.
82 Sound settings Y ou can use the Sound setti ngs feature to customise v arious settings, such as the: • ringtone, v olume and type for incomin g calls or messages. • sounds made when your call is connected or when you press a key . • quiet mode which your phone switches to when you hold down the key in the Idle Mode.
Sound setting s 83 Ring volume : allows you to adjust the ring volume. Use the Up and Down key s or the volume keys on the left sid e of the phone. The m ore bars you see, the louder the volume. Alert type : let s you spec ify ho w you are infor med of any incoming calls.
Sound sett ings 84 Vibration : the phone vibrates but does not ring. Vibration then tone : the phone first vibrates and then starts ringing . Repetition : allows you to specify how often the phone informs you of a new message. Y ou can choose either Once or Periodic .
Sound setting s 85 Key tone This menu option allows you to select the tone that the keypad sounds when you press a dial key . T o turn the sound off , select Off . T o adjust the key tone v olume, press the volu me keys on the left side of the phone in Idle Mode.
Sound sett ings 86 Slider tone This me nu allows y ou to select the slider tone that the phone sounds when y ou slide the folder up or down. T o turn the sound off , select Off . Alerts on call This menu allows y ou to set the phone to all al erts while calling.
87 Messages This menu allows you to create, send, read and save messag es with the Short Message Se rvice (SMS: text message), Enhanced Message Service (EMS: message including simple image, animation .
Messages 88 T o read the new message(s) immediately , press the View soft key . The list of the messages appears. Note: T o clear the ne w mess ag e notification on the display , press the key .
Messages 89 2. While entering your me ssage, press the Optio ns soft key to use the following options. • Send : allows you to send the message. R efer to the next step . • Text : allows you to fo rmat the text. Fo llowing text attributes can all be combined as required.
Messages 90 Note : T o clear or cl ear all your input, press or press and hold the C key . When you have no in put, press and hold the C key to mov e to the previous screen. T o send the message to multip le destinations up to 5, press the Add soft key and repeat step 4.
Messages 91 T o view a message, scroll to it and press the Selec t soft key . The screen shows t he: • date and time when the m essage wa s received. • memory where the message was stored; for the SIM card or for the phone’ s memory . • message contents.
Messages 92 Transfer : allows you to tr ansfer the message from the SIM card to th e phone’ s memory or v ice versa. Outbox Outbox stores an y messages that you ha ve already sent or just save d without sending.
Messages 93 Send : allows you to send the messag e to another person. Edit : allows you to edit the message. Transfer : allows you to tr ansfer the message from the SIM card to th e phone’ s memory or v ice versa. Delete all Y ou can delete all messages stored in the SIM card and phone’s memory in this menu.
Messages 94 Multimedia messages Multimedia Message Service (MMS) is a messaging service very similar to Short Message Service (SMS). It provides asynchronous deliv ery of personal multi media messa ges from between phone and phone, phone and e- mail, phone and web(by URL).
Messages 95 Notes : • while retrieving a new message, you cannot acces s WAP sites, and cannot also enter the Downloads menu (see page 124). • T o clear the new message notification on the displ ay , press t he key .
Messages 96 Notes : • Y ou can only receive up to 150 messages. • Multime dia messa ge box es, Camera, and Media b ox share a given amount of memory in your ph one. Y ou can also use the Delete or Delete all option to delete some sounds or image s in Camera or M edia box.
Messages 97 Picture (continued) 3. Select one of pictures you want to add. The picture is display ed. 4. Press the Add soft key . T o add a picture in the Media box ; 1. Select one of the picture categories. The picture li st of the category is displayed .
Messages 98 2. Press the Opt. soft k ey to u se the followi ng o p t i o n s . • Preview : shows your mes sage as it wi ll display on t he recipient’ s phone. T o go back t o the message screen, press the Edit soft key . T o send the message, press the Send soft key and go to step 4.
Messages 99 • Add page : allows you to add up to 10 pages. Y ou can move to each page us ing the Left or Right key on the me ssage screen. • Page timing : allows you to set how long one page of the received messages displa ys. After a specified time, the display autom atically scrolls to the next page.
Messages 100 If it is not an empty entry , do the followi ng things. Edit addre ss : to edit the selected address. Delete address : to delet e the sel ected addre ss. Note : T o clear or cl ear all your input, press or press and hold the C key . When you have no in put, press and hold the C key to mov e to the previous screen.
Messages 101 Note : The icon of message status can ha ve vario us forms lik e , , as the priority that sender fixed (see pag e 110). T o view a message, scroll to it and press the Selec t soft key . But you cannot view the retrieving message. T o scroll through the message content s, press the Up or Do wn key .
Messages 102 Cut address : extracts phone numbers, email addresses or URL addresses in the text, so that y ou can call the number or send a message to the number or save it in your Phonebook. Properties : shows you det ailed informa tion about the message.
Messages 103 T o resend the message th a t you failed to send, scroll thro ugh and s elect the messa ge by pre ssing the Up or Down key , and then press the Select soft key . Then press the Opt. soft k ey , and then select the Send option. T o scroll through the message, press the U p or Down key .
Messages 104 Y ou can choose the following options by pressing the Opt. soft key: Send : replies to the sender by sending a message. Replay : replays the me ssage. Delete : deletes the message. Properties : shows you det ailed informa tion about the message.
Messages 105 Delete all This menu option allows you to d elete all of the messages in each message box. Y ou can also delete all of your messages at one time. 1. Scroll to a message box and place a check mark ahead of it by pressing the Select soft key .
Messages 106 Never : the push message never comes in. Optional : Only the push messages whose sett ing matches to th e number in this o ption come in. The preset number is SMS service centre. Y ou can also edit the number . Delete all : deletes all of the push messages.
Messages 107 • In Idle Mode, hold the 1 key down to access y our voice mai l server and fo llow the instructio ns provided. • Call your v oice mail server num ber by accessing the Connect to voice mail menu and follow the instructio ns prov ided.
Messages 108 • the message channel is currently active on the channel lis t. When you get broadcast m essages, you can see the messages in Idle Mode.
Messages 109 T o enable or disable this channel press the Select soft key , then select Enable or Disable . The Add channel option allows you to add a new channel to th e channel list. Enter the appropria te channel co de obtai ned from your ser vice provid er and a title for the channe l.
Messages 110 Delivery rep ort : all ows you t o set on or off . When this function is set to on, the network informs y ou whether or not your message has been delivered. Character support : allows you to select the character set when editing and sending messages.
Messages 111 Delivery report : w hen this option sets to On , the network informs you whether or not your message has been delivered. Rea d re p ly : when this option sets to On , your recipient’s phon e sends a reply to let y ou know when your message was read by her/him.
