Getting star ted 11 Removing the SIM or USIM car d 1 Open the cov er of the SIM card slot. 2 Pr ess the SIM or USIM card with your finger , and then pull it out. 3 Close the cov er of the SIM card slot. Charg ing the batter y Use the charger t o charge the battery before using it f or the first time.
Getting star ted 12 Connect the USB cable to the USB pow er adaptor and then plug the end of the USB cable into the multipurpose jack . Connecting the charger improperly ma y cause serious damage to the device . Any damage caused by misuse is not co ver ed by the warranty .
Getting star ted 13 Reducing the battery consumption Y our device pr ovides options that help y ou sav e the batter y pow er . By customising these options and deactivating featur es in the background, y ou can use the device longer between charges: • When you ar e not using the device, switch to sleep mode b y pressing the P ower butt on.
Getting star ted 14 1 Open the cov er of the memor y card slot. 2 Inser t a memor y card with the gold- colour ed contacts facing downw ards . 3 Push the memory card into the slot until it locks in plac e. 4 Close the cov er of the memor y card slot. Removing the memor y card Befor e removing the memory card, first unmount it f or safe remo val.
Getting star ted 15 F ormatting the memor y card A memor y card f or matted on a c omputer may not be c ompatible with the device . F ormat the memor y card on the device . On the Home screen, tap → Settings → General → Stor age → F ormat SD card → F ormat SD card → Erase ev er ything .
Getting star ted 16 L ock ing and unlock ing the screen Pr essing the Po wer button turns off the scr een and locks it. Also , the screen turns off and automatically locks if the device is not used f or a specified period.
17 Basics U sing the touch scr een • Do not allow the touch scr een to come int o contact with other electr ical devices . Electrostatic discharges can cause the touch scr een to malfunc tion. • T o av oid damaging the touch scr een, do not tap it with anything sharp or apply ex cessive pr essure to it with your fingertips.
Basics 18 T apping and holding T ap and hold an item or the screen f or more than 2 seconds to access a vailable options. Dragging T o move an it em, tap and hold it and drag it to the target position. Double -tapping Double -tap on a webpage or image to zoom in.
Basics 19 F licking Flick left or right on the Home screen or the A pps screen to see another panel . Flick up or down to scr oll through a webpage or a list of items , such as contacts. Spreading and pinching Spread two fingers apart on a webpage, map , or image to zoom in a part.
Basics 20 Home screen la y out Home screen The Home screen is the starting point for acc essing all of the device’ s featur es. The Home screen has two diff erent k inds of panels. The Classic Home screen panel display s widgets, shor tcuts to apps , and more, and the Con tent Home scr een panel displays C ontent widgets.
Basics 21 Apps scr een The Apps scr een displays ic ons for all apps , including newly installed apps. On the Home screen, tap to open the Apps scr een. T o view other panels, scr oll left or right, or select a screen indicator at the bottom of the scr een.
Basics 22 Indicator ic ons Indicator icons appear on the status bar at the t op of the screen. T he icons listed in the table below are most c ommon. The status bar ma y not appear at the top of the scr een in some apps. T o display the status bar , drag down from the top of the scr een.

Basics 26 Opening apps On the Home screen or the Apps scr een, selec t an app icon to open it. T o open the list of recen tly-used apps, tap and select an app icon to open. Closing an app T ap → T ask manager , and then tap End next to an app to close it.

Basics 28 Enabling apps On the Apps screen, tap → Show disabled apps , select apps, and then tap Done . Alternativ ely , on the Apps screen, tap Settings → Applications → Application manager , scroll to DISABLED , select an app, and then tap Enable .
Basics 29 Using additional k eyboard func tions T ap and hold to use various functions. Other icons may appear instead of depending on the last function that was used. • : Enter te xt by voice . Change the language. Open the keyboard. Star t or pause entering text by voice .

Network connectivit y 37 Adding Wi - Fi networks If the desired network does not appear in the Wi-F i networks list, tap Add W i-F i net work at the bottom of the list. Ent er the network name in Network SSID , select the securit y type and enter the passw ord if it is not an open network, and then tap Connect .
Network connectivit y 38 Download boost er Use this f eature t o download large files fast er via Wi-F i and mobile networks simultaneously . A stronger Wi-F i signal will provide a faster do wnload speed. On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Connections → Download booster , and then tap the Download booster switch to activate it.
Network connectivit y 39 Using the mobile hotspot Use your devic e as a mobile hotspot to share your device ’ s mobile data connec tion with other devices. 1 On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Connections → T ethering and Mobile hotspot → Mobile hotspot .
Network connectivit y 40 Using Bluet ooth tethering Share the device ’ s mobile data connec tion with other devices via Bluet ooth. Ensure that the computer that y ou connec t to supports the Bluetooth featur e. 1 P air your device with the other device via Bluetooth.
Network connectivit y 41 T o view the toolbars, dr ag your finger downwar ds slightly on the screen. Open the homepage. Close the tab . Move to the previously-visit ed page. Book mark the current webpage . Open a new tab . Read an ar ticle in reading mode .
42 Motions & usabilit y f eatur es Motions Exc essive shaking or impac t on the device ma y result in unintended inputs . Control motions properly . Mute/P ause On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Device → Motions , and then tap the Mute/P ause switch to activate it.
Motions & usability features 43 Smar t pause Playback pauses aut omatically when you look a way fr om the screen. It resumes when you look at the screen again. T ap Mute/P ause → Smar t pause . P alm swipe to capture On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Device → Motions , and then tap the P alm swipe to capture switch to activate it.
Motions & usability features 44 Multi window About Multi windo w Use this f eature t o run two apps on the screen at the same time . Y ou can use this featur e to view emails or use the Internet while you play a video simultaneously .

P ersonalising 55 Setting wallpaper and ringtones Setting wallpaper Set an image or photo stored in the devic e as wallpaper for the Classic Home screen or the locked screen. 1 On the Classic Home screen, tap and hold an empty area, and then tap W allpapers .
P ersonalising 56 Changing the scr een lock method Y ou can change the way that you lock the scr een to prevent others fr om accessing your personal information. On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Device → Lock scr een → Screen lock , and then select a screen lock method .
P ersonalising 57 P assword A passwor d consists of characters and numbers. En ter at least f our characters including numbers and symbols, and then ent er the passwor d again to verify it.
P ersonalising 58 Registering fingerprints 1 On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Device → F inger S canner → F ingerprint manager . 2 If you are r egistering more fingerprints , a finger print rec ognition pop-up window appears. Scan a reg istered fingerprint on the devic e and tap .
P ersonalising 59 Managing reg ister ed fingerprints Y ou can delete or rename your r egistered fingerprints. On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Device → F inger S canner → F ingerprint manager . T o delete fingerprints, tap → Deregist er , select fingerpr ints , and then tap → OK .
P ersonalising 60 P rivate mode About priva te mode Use this mode to pr event others from using or acc essing specific conten t, such as images and documents, st ored on the device . Y ou can save conten t to a specific location and deactivate private mode to hide it ems securely .
P ersonalising 61 V iewing hidden cont ent Y ou can only view hidden items when private mode is activated. 1 On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Device → Priv ate mode , and then tap the Private mode switch to activate it. A lternatively , open the quick setting panel and tap Private mode to activate it.
P ersonalising 62 Adding r estric ted profiles 1 On the Apps screen, tap Settings → Device → Users . 2 T ap → Restric ted pr ofile . 3 Set an unlock code, and then select the apps and conten t that restricted users are allowed t o access. Swit ching users T ap at the top of the locked scr een.

65 Phone Mak ing calls T ap Phone on the Apps screen. T ap Phone , enter a phone number , and then tap to make a voic e call, or tap to make a video call. Y ou can also make calls to phone numbers listed in Groups , F av ourites , and Con tacts . View fa vourite contacts.
Phone 66 Mak ing calls from call logs or c ontac ts list T ap Phone or Con tacts , and then drag a contact or a phone number to the right to make a call. Mak ing calls from the fa vourites list Y ou can easily call contacts that you communicate with fr equently by adding them to the fav ourite contacts list.
Phone 67 Speed dial numbers T ap Phone . F or speed dial numbers, tap and hold the corresponding dig it. T o assign a contact to a speed dial number , tap and hold an available speed dial number on the keypad, tap OK , and then select a contact. Or , tap → Speed dial setting , select a number , and then select a contact.

Phone 70 During a video call The f ollowing actions are available: • : Switch t o a Bluetooth headset if it is connected to the device . • : Adjust the v olume. • Mute : T urn off the microphone so tha t the other par ty cannot hear you.

The device also r eads the contac t information fr om the business card and conv er ts it to a contact entr y .

Camera 81 • The camera aut omatically shuts off when unused. • Make sure that the lens is clean. Other wise, the device may not w ork properly in some modes that requir e high resolutions. • The fron t camera lens is suitable f or tak ing wide -angle photos.
Camera 82 Remote viewfinder Use your devic e as a viewfinder for another device. Y ou can control the other devic e remotely to take photos or videos fr om a distance. Y our device displays the same image tha t is display ed on the connected device. 1 T ap Camer a on the Apps screen.
Camera 83 Shooting modes Au to Use this mode to allo w the camera to evaluat e the sur roundings and det ermine the ideal mode for the phot o . On the Apps screen, tap Camer a → MODE → Aut o . Beauty face Use this mode to take a phot o with lightened faces f or gentler images.

Camera 86 Dual Camer a When you take a landscape phot o with the rear camera, the phot o or video captured by the front camer a appears in an inset window , or vice v ersa. Use this f eature t o take a beautiful landscape photo and a self-por trait simultaneously .
Camera 87 Camer a settings On the Apps screen, tap Camer a → . Not all of the following options ar e available in both still camera and video camera modes . • Picture size : Selec t a resolution. U se higher resolution f or higher qualit y . But it takes up more memory .

Multimedia 98 T o listen to songs at equal v olume levels, tap → Settings → Adv anced , and then tick Smar t volume . When Smar t volume is activated, the v olume may end up louder than the device volume lev el. Use caution t o av oid long-term exposure t o loud sounds to prev ent damage to your hearing .
Multimedia 99 Pla ying music by mood Use this f eature t o play music that suits y our mood. T ap Music on the Apps screen. T ap Music square . Songs are automatically ca tegorised by mood. T ap a mood cell or dr ag multiple cells to list en to the music in the cells .

Multimedia 101 Using the pop-up video play er Use this f eature t o use other apps without closing the video player . While watching videos , tap to use the pop-up video player . Spread two fingers apart on the screen to enlarge the pla yer or pinch to r educe it.
