– 1 – Things You Should Know Your DCS Key phone System There are a number of different Samsung key phone sy stems each designa ted with the prefix ‘DCS.’ The orig inal sy stem is called sim- ply th e ‘DCS.’ Other sy stems are desi g nat ed DCS Com pact I I , DCS - 816, DCS-408 and DCS-408i.
Sams ung DCS Key s et User Guide – 2 – Lines from the telephone company are “ C.O . lines.” Calls on thes e lines are referred to as “outside calls.” Your sy stem can have individ- ual C.O. line keys—called Direct Trunk Selection ( DTS) key s—or lines may be assig ned to groups.
– 3 – I nternal calls, also called intercom calls, always appear on your CALL key s and always lig ht green. You can have up to eight CALL key s (or up to five on Compact I I sy stems), but two are recommended. Outside calls appear on individual DTS key s , if these are assigned.

– 11 – Outside Calls Making An Outside Call 1. Lift the handset and press an idle outside line key , line g roup key or dial a line access code t o receive dial tone. OR To use the speakerphone, press an idle outside line key or line group key , or dial a line access code, to receive dial tone through the speaker.

– 13 – Busy Line Queuing With Callback I f you receive a busy signal when y ou are selecting an outside line, this means that the line or group of lines is busy . 1. Press the CALLBACK key or dial 44 . You will he ar confirmation tone. When the line bec omes free the sy stem will call y ou back.

– 15 – V o ice Announce Mode When another extension calls you, y our key set will sound a brief at- tention tone and y ou will hear the caller's announcement. 1. Press the ANS/RLS key to turn on the microphone and speak hands-free. OR Lift the handset to reply .

– 17 – Barge-in On An Extension The Barge-in feature allows y ou to barge in on a conversation cur- rently in prog ress at another ex tension. B arge-in is an optional feature and y our keyset must be programmed to allow it to access this fea- ture.

– 19 – I f you do not answer this recall within a pre-prog rammed period of time, it will go to the system ope rator. Consultation Hold When you are talking on an outside line and it is necessary to consult with another extension: 1. Press the TRSF key and receive transfer dial tone.
Sams ung DCS Key s et User Guide – 20 – Transferrin g Calls You can transfer a call from y our ex tension to another number in one of two way s. You can do a ‘screened’ t ransfer and inform the called party who is calling, or y ou can do a ‘blind’ (unscree ned) transfer without notification.
– 21 – Transfer With Camp-On When you are transferring a call to another extension and you receive a busy signal, y ou may camp the call on to the extension. Simply hang up when you hear the busy signal. The called party will be alerted tha t a call is waiting for the m.
Sams ung DCS Key s et User Guide – 22 – Conference Calls You may connect up to five parties (you and four others) in a confer- ence ca ll, in any combination of outside line s and interna l extensions in any order. 1. While engaged in a conversation, press the CONF key (i f as- signed), or the CONF soft key , or press the TRSF key and dial 46 .
– 23 – Forw arding Calls You can forward y our calls to another extension, group of ex tensions or an external telephone number. Program a destination for the ty pe of forwarding you want as shown below. I f y ou have FWD ALL, FWD BUSY , and FWD NO ANSWER key s, press one to turn that forward fea- ture on.

– 25 – Forward To An External Num ber To forward outside calls to another outside number, you can use the FWD EXTERNAL key programmed on y our keyset with the required external number to f orward to. Simply press this key to set f orward- ing (the LED lights and the message is display ed), and press it ag ain to turn forwarding off.

– 27 – Dialling Features Some dialling features can be accessed using programmable key s or feature access codes only. Others can be accessed usin g programma- ble keys, feature access codes, or the soft key menus on the LCD . Use of the soft key menus is described at the beginning of this guide (see Things You Should Know ).
Sams ung DCS Key s et User Guide – 28 – Programming Personal Speed Dial Numbers You can program frequently -dialled telephone numbers in y our per- sonal speed dial list. An extension has 10 (00–09) speed dial numbers by default but may be assig ned up to fifty (00-49).
– 29 – D is used for pulse-to-tone conversion (“C”). If y our sy stem uses ro- tary (or pulse) dialling C.O. lines, pressing D while e ntering a speed dial number causes all subsequent digits to be sent as DTMF tones. E is used to hide digits.

– 31 – Chain Dialling You can manually dial additional digits following a speed dial num- ber or chain as many speed dial numbers together as required. • After the first speed dial number is answered, press the SPD key again and dial another speed number OR manually dial additional digits following a speed dial number.
Sams ung DCS Key s et User Guide – 32 – Voice Dialler Voice Dialler allows y ou to rec ord a voice pattern in a digital format and store it in an addressable location. When the Voice Dialler fea- ture is activa ted, it will identify , retrieve and process the associated stored data.
– 33 – Placing a V oice Dialler Call 1. Lift the handset. 2. Press the VDIAL key , if assigned, or dial 681 . 3. Speak the desired name carefully into the handset. I f y ou are successful, the call will be placed. If y ou hear error tone, repeat the procedure.

– 37 – 2. Hang up. The MS G key (s) on the called extension or on all of the extensions in the group will flash. (Some phones have a special multi-function lamp which flashes. Standard telephones receive special dial tone as a message indication.) Note: • An extensio n can have up t o five message ind ications.

– 41 – Mute You can mute the handset transmitter or the microphone during any conversation so y ou cannot be heard. 1. Press the MU TE key or the MUTE soft key . The key will light red and ‘mute’ (lower case) is display ed. 2. To resume speaking , press the MU TE key or mute soft key .
Sams ung DCS Key s et User Guide – 42 – 3. Dial the time y ou want the alarm to sound. Enter the time as HHMM (hours and minutes) using a 24-hour clock. For example, 1430 is 2:30pm. 4. Dial 1 (TODAY) or 2 (DAIL Y) to select the alarm type. Dial 0 (NOTSET ) if y ou choose not to set the alarm.
– 43 – Calling the Doorphone/Room Monitor You can call the doorphone and listen to what is happening outside or in another room. • • • • Dial the extension number of the doorphone. You will be connected to the door phone and y ou can listen or have a conversation.

– 45 – To unlock y our keyset: 1. While on-hook, press the TRSF key and dial 100. 2. Dial y our 4-digit extension passcode. 3. Dial 0 to set the key set to Unlocked. 4. Press the TRSF key to store y our selection. Note: • If Locked Ou t is selected, the HOLD key w ill flash slow ly.

– 49 – Automatic Hold While on an outside call, pressing a line key, route key or a flashing CALL key will automatically put y our call on hold and connect y ou to the next call. This feature can be turned on or off at your key set. 1. While on-hook, press the TRSF key and dial 110 .

– 51 – Display Features Call Progress Display s During every day call handling, y our key set display provides informa- tion that is helpful and, in some cases, invaluable in keeping y ou in- formed of what is happe ning and who is calling. I n some cases y ou are prompted to take an action and in others y ou receive information on the call.

– 53 – Personal Sp eed Dial Names Each personal speed dial number y ou create can have a name of up to 10 characters assigned to it. This name is used to select the speed dial bin when y ou use the Dial by Directory feature (see below). To pro- gram speed dial names: 1.
