Camer a User Guide The serial number of this product is given on the bottom face of the camera. Basic Operations If you are using the camera f or the first time, read this section. This section provides a basic overview of how to turn on the camera, take pictures and play back pictures.

47 1 ADJ. Button Functions Shifting the AE and AF T argets Y ou can shift the target for automatic exposure ( AE) and/or auto focus (AF). Available Setting Description AE/AF AE and AF are set t o Spot AE and Spot AF respectively and the target can be moved f or both simultaneously.
48 2 Using the Fn (F unction) Button 2 Using the Fn (F unc tion) Button Simply press the F n button to quickly access the function assigned to it using the [ Set Fn Button] option in the setup menu ( G P .49). The function assigned to the F n button can be selected from the options below .

52 3 Shooting Mode T ypes 3 Shooting Mode T ypes S cene Mode ( W ) In scene mode, you can choose from one of the f ollowing 11 subject types. Camera settings are automatically optimiz ed for the selected subject type. Scene Modes Portrait Use for portraits.
53 3 Shooting Mode T ypes Sports Use when taking pictures of moving objects. Landscape Use when taking scener y pictures with abundant greenery or blue sky. Zoom Macro The camera automatically zooms to the optimal z oom position to shoot at a higher magnification than in normal macro shooting.

56 3 Shooting Mode T ypes Caution --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When [Skew Correct Mode] is selected, note the f ollowing: • T o shoot the subject as large as possible, position it so that the entire portion of the subject is visible on the picture display .
57 3 Shooting Mode T ypes Continuous Mode ( R ) T urn the mode dial to R to use the various continuous shooting functions. Continuous mode can be selected from the continuous mode selection dialog displayed when the MENU button is pressed. Continuous Modes Continuous Mode This is the normal continuous mode.

59 3 Shooting Mode T ypes Note ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- • Focus, exposure value , and white balance are locked. • ISO sensitivit y is raised. • Flickering may be recorded as horiz ontal bands when pictures are taken under fluorescent lights.
60 3 Shooting Mode T ypes M-Cont Plus (2M) The camera shoots while the shutter release button is pr essed all the way down, but only the last 26 frames (about the last 0.9 seconds of shooting) are recor ded, creating a single multi-picture (MP) file. 63 3 Shooting Mode T ypes Dynamic Range Double Shot “Dynamic range” refers to the range of brightnesses (tone levels) that can be expressed by the camera. Dynamic range double shot creates a smooth transition from highlights to shadows f or natural contrast.
64 3 Shooting Mode T ypes The effect can be chosen using the [Dynamic Range Expansion] option when [Dynamic Range] is selec ted in creative shooting mode . If an option other than [AUT O] is highlighted when you press the ADJ ./OK button F , the menu shown at right will be displayed.

75 5 Shooting Menu Flash Exposure Compensation Y ou can adjust the light intensity of the flash. Y ou can set the light intensity from –2.0 EV to +2.0 EV in increments of 1/3 E V . 76 5 Shooting Menu Interval Shooting Y ou can set the camera to automatically take pictures at fixed intervals. Y ou can set the shooting interval from five seconds to one hour in increments of five seconds .
77 5 Shooting Menu Slow Shutter Limit The maximum shutter speed can be limited to the f ollowing: 1/8 second, 1/4 second, and 1/2 second. When this function is set to [Off ], the maximum shutter speed varies depending on the ISO setting.
78 5 Shooting Menu Fo cu s Subject Tr acking AF When you press the shutter-r elease button halfway , the camera will focus on the subject in the focus frame at the center of the monitor and a green target icon will be displa yed (the target icon will be display ed in red if the camera is unable to locate a subject to track).

83 5 Shooting Menu White Balance Adjust the white balance so that a white subject will appear white . At purchase, the white balanc e mode is set to [Multi-P AUT O].

95 6 Playback Menu Protect [Prot ect] allows you to protect files from being accidentally deleted. If [1 File] is selected, you can pr otect or unprotect the file selected by pressing the ADJ./OK button NF . If [Select All] or [Cancel All] is selected, you can protect or unprotect all files.

98 7 Setup Menu 7 Setup Menu Y ou can change the camera settings by displaying the setup menu from the shooting menu ( G P .71) or playback menu ( G P .85). Using the Menu 1 P ress the MENU button. • The shooting menu (or the playback menu) appears.
99 7 Setup Menu 8 P ress the ADJ./OK button. • The setup menu disappears and the camera is ready for shooting or playback. • The setup menu may appear depending on the setting. In this case, press the MENU button or the ADJ ./OK button to return to the shooting or playback screen.

104 7 Setup Menu Digital Zoom Image If [Normal] (the default option) is selected for [Digital Zoom Image] , digital zoom will enlarge image data from the c enter of the frame to create a picture at the current image size , creating a slightly grain y image.
105 8 Direct Printing 8 Direct Printing About the Direct Print F unc tion The Direct Print standard enables dir ect printing from a camera to a printer by connecting them via a USB cable. Photos can be printed quickly and easily from your digital camera without using a computer .
106 8 Direct Printing Printing S till Images Y ou can print still images from the camera with a PictBridge- compatible printer . If a memor y card is inserted, the pictures will be printed from the memory card; otherwise pic tures will be printed from internal memory.
