Getting Started 4 Section 1: Get ting Star ted This section explains how to st art using your Samsung Byline™ phone by activating your ser vice, setting up your V oicemail, or getting an understanding of how this manual is put together .

Getting Started 6 Char ging the Batter y Y our phone is powered by a rechar geabl e standard Li-Ion battery . Only use S amsung-approved ch arging devices a nd batteries. Samsung accessories are designed to maximize battery life. Use of other access ories may invalida te your warrant y and may cause damage.

Understandi ng Y our Phone 8 Section 2: Unde r standing Y our Phone This section outlines so me key f eatures of your phone. It al so describes the screen format and th e icons that will be displ ayed when the ph one is in use.
9 3. Speakerphone / Push-T o-T alk (PTT) Key — In Standby mode, pressing this key launches the ChatLINK screen, enabling PTT opera tion. In Standby and Call modes, pressing and h olding this key toggle s your phone in /o ut of Sp eakerphone mode. In PTT mode, press ing and holding this key enables you to talk (rel ease to listen).

11 Right Soft K ey Some functions of the Right soft ke y ( ) are as fo llows: • In standby mode, press the @metro key ( ) to launch the @metro screen. • When the Right soft key function is O ptions, press the Opti ons (right) soft key ( ) and a pop-up menu appears.
Understa nding Y our Phone 12 Under standing the Display Screen 1. The top line of your phone’ s display contains icons that indica te network status, batter y power , signal strength , connection type, and more. 2. The center portion of the display shows information such as call progress information, messages, and photos.
13 Bac klights Backlights illuminate the display and the keypad. When you press any key or open the phone, the backlights co me on. They go off when no keys a re pressed within a period of time set in the Backlight menu.
Understa nding Y our Phone 14 R eceive Messages in Standby Mode Y ou can receive mess ages in sta ndby mode. An alert tone sounds and a notification message appe ars in the display when a new message arrives. The following call message options appear: • Vi ew No w — This sel ection allows you to view the mes sages now .
15 T o enter Silent Mode: 䊳 In standby mode, pr ess and hold . “ Entering Si lent Mode ” briefly appears in the display and your phone returns to standby mode. T o e xit Silent Mode: 䊳 While in Sile nt mode and st andby mode, press and h old .
Call Functions 16 Section 3: Call Funct ions This section provides procedur es for making and answering calls. This section also describe s featur es, such as ca ll logs and call timers, that help you make calls a nd man age your cal l time. Making a Call 1.
17 • 2-Sec P ause — A 2-sec ond pause after w hich dialing resum es. •W a i t — A hard pause (w aits for input from you). 3. Use the Up/Down navigation or arrow keys to highlight the desired pause. 4. Press to enter the highlighted pause into the number sequence.
Call Functions 18 V oice Dialing The voice recognition capabi liti es of your Byline phone are exceptio nal due to adva nced, speaker -independent technology . This means you do not need to “t rain” your phone to understand your voice. Y ou can use yo ur voice in a na tural manner to dial numbers.

Call Noti ficat ion Feat ure s Y our phone notifies you of a call in a variety of ways. • Eight ring volume settings: Ringer Of f , Vi b r a t e , Low , Low/Medium , Medium , Medium/High , High , or V ibrate/Hi gh .
21 Call W aiting If you’re on a call, your phone beeps when another call is incoming. Contact your Wirele ss Carrier for availa bility . 1. Press to connect a nd ask the ca lling party to remain on the line. 2. Press and the second caller is placed on hold and you’re returned to the original call er .
Call Functions 22 3. Within the above menu li st, do one of the follo wing: • Use the Navigation key to highlight a m enu or feature. Press to open the h ighlighted m enu or to activate t he highlighted feature.

Call Functions 24 Note: Call timer is not for billing pur poses. 1. In standby mode, press Menu ➔ Calls ➔ Call T imer . The Call T imer screen appears in the di splay with the first timer in the list highlighted.
25 2. T o reset a timer other than Lifetime Data Counter , use the Up/Down navig ation keys to highlight the t imer you want to rese t and pr ess t he Reset soft key . 3. T o reset all timers except Lifetime Data Counter , press the Reset All soft key .
Menu Navigation 26 Section 4: Menu Na vigation This section explains the menu navi gation for your phone. It also inc ludes an out line of all the available menu s associated with your phone. Menu Navig ation Access the menus and sub-menus in you r phone using the Navigation key ( ) and soft ke ys ( or ), or use a shortcut.
27 Section 5: Ente ring T ext This section outlines how to sele ct the desire d te xt entry mode when entering characters using the phone keypad. This section also describes how to use the T9 predic tive text en try system to reduce the number of key stro kes neede d to enter te xt.
Entering T e xt 28 Using T9 ® Mode T9 Word recognizes commonly used words for the numeric sequence of key presse s and inserts the word into your message. T9 Wo rd is much fast er than the tr aditional me thod of text entry (Abc) and requires only one key pre ss per le tter of the word t hat you’re spelling.
29 Entering Symbols Enter symbols such as “@” or “%” into a text messa ge. 1. While composing a text messa ge, press the Left soft key , use the N avigation key to h ighlight Symbo ls , then press . The first of three symbol scree ns ap pear s in the display .

Y ou can have your Contacts en tries sorted by name. Contacts Up to 500 entries can be stored in Contacts.

The Find screen appears in the display with the Go T o field highlighted, followed by the fi rst few name s in your Contacts list.

35 Pause Dial from Contacts 1. If you stored the numbe r using 2-second pause(s), simply recall the number from Contacts. 2. If you stored the number using Wait(s), recall the number from Contacts and wait fo r the appropriate prompt from th e dialed num ber .

@Metro 44 Section 7: @ Metro With Mobile Shop, you can down load full f eatured applications over the ai r inc luding games, pe rsonalized ring tones, pict ures, and more. Y ou can send and receiv e instant messages and email, or browse the web to catch up on all the latest news.

@Metro 46 R estoring Apps Disabled apps can be quickly restor ed at no additional purchas e cost. T o restore an app, run the application you wa nt to restore from the Main Menu. Y ou will be guided through the restoration process. Expir ed Apps Apps that were purchased based on the number of uses or time expire.
47 Section 8: Messages This section explains ho w to send or receive di fferent type s of messages. This section also describes the features and function ality asso ciat ed with messaging. Types of Messages Y our phone is able to send an d receive T ext messages to compatible phones and devices.

MetroWEB 56 Section 9: Met r oWEB This section outlines how to la unch MetroWEB, how to navigate to other pages on the we b, and how the k eys on the keypad are used with the web application. A dditionally , links to other sites are briefly discussed.
57 MetroWEB soft keys At the botto m of the MetroWEB di spl ay is a bar that contai ns browser commands. The Left and Right soft keys are u sed to execute the browser commands that appear in their respective corners of the display .
Voice SVC 58 Section 10: V oice SV C This section explains how you can use and cu stomize your phone’ s VoiceSignal voic e recognition feature. V oice SV C Options Y our Byline phone inc ludes V oic eSignal , state-of-the-art v oice recognition soft ware that lets you use your voice to dial numbers, access your Contacts list, and open T ools.

71 When an Alarm Sounds An animate d alarm clock appears in the display and an alert sounds when the specified time for the alarm arrives. • T o silence the alarm, press . • If the alarm was set as a Daily alarm, the alarm icon remains in the top of the display .
