The term “power tool” in all of the warnings listed below refers to your mains-operated (corded) power tool or battery-operated (cordless) power tool.

6 SYMBOLS The following signal words and meanings ar e intended to explain the levels of risk associated with this product. Indicates an imminently hazardous situation, which, if not avoided, will result in death or serious injury . 7 DOUBLE INSULA TION Double insulation is a concept in safety in electric power tools, which eliminates the need for the usual three-wir e grounded power cord. All exposed metal parts ar e isolated from the internal metal motor components with protect- ing insulat ion.

9 KNOW YOUR BEL T SANDER See Figure 1. Before attempting to use this product, familiarize yourself with all operating features and safety rules. SWITCH TRIGGER T o turn the sander ON , depress the switch trigger . Release switch trigger to turn your sander OFF .
10 WARNING: Do not allow familiarity with tools to make you careless. Remember that a careless fraction of a second is sufficient to inflict serious injury . WARNING: Always wear safety goggles or safety glasses with side shields when operating power tools.
11 V ARIABLE SPEED See Figure 2. The sander has a variable speed control dial, A (slowest) to F (fastest) , designed to allow operator control of belt speed. T o incr ease belt speed, turn the variable speed contr ol dial to a higher setting. T urn to a lower setting to decrease belt speed.
12 TO INST ALL/CHANGE SANDING BEL T See Figures 5 - 6. n Unplug the sander . n Position sander as shown. WARNING: Keep hands and fingers clear of front roller and spring mechanism at all times. Failure to do so could result in fingers getting pinched, causing possible serious injury .
13 LOCKING ON THE SANDER See Figure 8. The lock-on feature allows you to lock the switch trigger in the ON position. Locking the switch trigger on allows you to operate the sander for extended periods of time.
14 TO ADJUST SANDING BEL T TRACKING See Figure 10. n Connect the sander to power supply . n With sander positioned as shown below , pull switch trig- ger and release immediately . NOTE: This position is for adjustments only . Sanding belt should not be in contact with workpiece or any foreign ob- jects when making belt tracking adjustments.
15 WARNING: T o prevent the possibility of sawdust or foreign objects being thrown into your face and eyes, never attempt to use the sander without dust bag properly installed. Sawdust or foreign objects being thr own into your face and eyes could result in possible serious injury .
16 MAINTENANCE WARNING: W h e n s e r v i c i n g u s e o n l y i d e n t i c a l R I D G I D replacement parts. Use of any other parts may create a hazar d or cause product damage. WARNING: Always wear safety goggles or safety glasses with side shields during power tool operation or when blowing dust.
17 TIMING BEL T REPLACEMENT See Figures 13 - 14. n Unplug the sander. n Remove dust bag. n Lay belt sander on side as shown. n Remove sanding belt from sander . Follow instructions on page 12 to remove sanding belt. NOTE: Removing sanding belt will simplify the pr ocess of installing a new timing belt.
