3 Introduction English Introduction VPAP™ Adapt SV The VP AP Adapt SV flow generator has been desi gned to be reliable, co mfortable and easy to use. You can observe your treatment and make adjustment s to settings using a keypad and LCD screen. ! CAUTION USA federal law restricts this device to sale by or on the order of a physician.

5 Quick Setup Guide English The following side effects may arise during a course of therapy with the VP AP Adapt S V: • drying of the nose, mouth, or throat • bloating • ear or sinus discomfort • ey e irritation • skin rashes • c h est discomfort.
6 7 Remove your mask to stop treatment. If SmartStop is enabled, treatment will stop automatically. If th e SmartStop function has been disabled, p ress the Start/St op key once. 8 Assembling the VPAP Adapt SV System Complete the following steps to assemb le the VP AP Adapt SV s ystem. Make sure the area around the unit is clean (dus t free ) and clear of be dding, clothes and any other potential blockages. To add a humidifi er see page 10.

10 Humidifiers A humidifier may be required if you are experienci ng dryness of the nose, throat, or mouth. The following ResMe d humidifiers are compatible with the VP AP Adapt S V: Figure 7: Humidif.
11 VP AP Adapt SV System English HumidAire 2i™ The HumidAire 2i provides heated hu midification for the VPAP Adapt SV. To attach the HumidAire 2i, remove the VP AP Adapt S V front cover and atta ch the humidifier docking st ation and water chamber. No other accessories are required for use.
12 HumidAire™ You will need a medium size 21" (52 cm) air tube to connect the VPAP Adapt SV unit to the HumidAire™ (see Figure 7). 1 Make sure both the HumidAire and the VP AP Adapt S V are turned off. Fill the HumidAire with water as described in the humidifier manual.
13 VP AP Adapt SV System English 5 Connect the mask system to the free end of the long air tubing. The final assembly should look like this: 6 Switch on the HumidAire and the VP AP Adapt S V. ! WARNING Make sure that the powe r cords and plugs are in good condition and the equipment is not damaged.
14 ResLink™ The ResLink is a device tha t records da ta onto a SmartMedi a™ card during you r therapy. The card can be return ed to your clinician so that they can observe your progress and adjust flow generator parameters if necessary. The ResLink connects to the back of VP AP Adapt S V as shown.
15 VP AP Adapt SV System English Using DC Power to R un the VPAP Adapt SV The VPAP Adapt SV can be run on DC in case of power f ailure. ResMed supplies separately a converter that allows a 12 V or 24V battery to be connected to the DC input of the VPAP Ad apt SV.
16 Using the VPAP Adapt SV ! WARNING Before starting therapy with a new mask, select the correct mask type in the Settings menu (page 21). When adding or removing a new component, such as a mask, humi difier, or anti-bacterial fi lter, perform the Air Circuit Learn function (page 21).
17 Using the VP AP Adapt SV English Control Panel Functions The control panel of the VP AP Adapt SV has a keypad that allows you to: • start or stop treatment • adjust set tings on the flow generator • mute or stop alarms • view treatment data.
18 Left key (green) • Enters a menu. • Confirms and applies set tings. • P erforms the fu nction indicated b y the te xt abo ve it in t he LCD (eg, ’enter’ , ’c hange’). Right key (red) • P erforms the function indicated by the text abo ve it in the LCD (eg, ’exit’).

20 Menus The options available in the Settings menu will depend on the therapy you are receiving (either ASV or CPAP ), as set by your clinician. Figure 15: Navi gating the Patient menu.
21 Using the VP AP Adapt SV English Settings Menu You will only see the options relevant to your therapy. In CPAP (Conti nuous Positive Airway Pressure) mode, the clinician sets a pressure that will be constant throughout treatment. In ASV mode, the VP AP Adapt S V continually measures your breathing and regulat es the air pressure accordingly.
22 7 . When the function is comp lete, a screen will appear sa ying that the circuit has been learned successfully . T he next menu item is then display ed.
23 Using the VP AP Adapt SV English Mask-fit Gives a rating of how well the mask was fitting during your last session on the VP AP Adapt S V. The stars indicate how goo d the fit was (more stars = bette r fit). Average Pressure Provides information on the average ai r pressure during your most recent session on the VP AP Adapt S V .
24 Servicing Menu This menu displays th e following information: • SN—the f low ge nerator’ s serial number • PCB—the flow generator’ s PCB number (PCB—printed circuit board) • SW—the version of sof tware currently inst alled on the fl ow generator .
25 Alarms English Alarms The VP AP Adapt SV unit is fitt ed with alarms to alert you to changes that will affect your treatment. Th e most common reason for an alarm to sound is because the system has not b een properly assembled.
26 Will clear when: • the low pressure condition is fixed • treatment is stopped by pressing the Star t/Stop key . Power Fail Alarm Triggere d by: • pow er failure • mac h ine is disconnected or switc hed of f whil e delivering treatment. If a power fail alarm sounds: • the flow generator stops deliv ering air pressure.
27 Alarms English High Leak Alert Triggered by: • high mask leak (greater than 30 L/min) f or more than 20 seconds • the mask being remov ed while SmartStop is disabled. If a high leak alert sounds: • adjust the mask to minimiz e leak • c h ec k that the air t ube and sensor tube are connected properly .
28 Will stop when: • bloc kage is removed. Cleaning and Maintenance You should regularl y carry out the cl ea ning and maintenance described in this manual. ! CAUTION Do not wash the pre ssure sensor tu be. If fluid enters the pr essure sensor tube allow it to dry completely by ha ng ing it in a clean pl ace out of direct sunlight.

CAUTION • Do not use bleac h, c hlorine-, alcohol-, or aromatic-b ased solutions (including all scented oils), moisturising or antibacterial soaps to clean the cushion, mask, air tubing, or the VP AP Ad apt SV .
30 Air Filter Inspect the air filter every month and check if it is blocked by dirt or contains holes. The filter should be replaced every six mo nths, or more often if the flow generator is operating i n a dusty environment. ! WARNING Do not wash the air filt er once it has become soile d.
31 T roubleshooting English Applicable ResMed warranty details are pr ovided with the device at the time of original supply. Of course, as with all electrical devices, if any irregularity becomes apparent, you should exercise caution an d have the device inspected by an authorized ResMed service center.
32 Glossary Alarms When more than one alarm is activat ed at the one time, the highest priorit y alarm will be displa yed. Backlight The bac klight turns of f if no but ton has been pressed for two minutes. It can also be kept permanently on b y selecting On in the Bac klight screen of the Options menu.
