If a water heater is installed in a closed w ater supply sys- tem; such as one ha ving a back-flo w preventer , check valv e, water meter with a chec k valve, etc... in the cold water supply; means shall be pro vided to control thermal expansion. Contact the water supplier or plumbing inspector on how to control this situation.

Installing the Ne w W ater Heater (cont’ d) T he combustion and ventilation air flo w must not be obstructed. All vent gases must be completely vented to the outdoors of the structure (dwelling). Install only the dr aft hood provided with the new water heater and no other dr aft hood.
A gas line of sufficient size must be run to the water heater . Consult the current edition of National Fuel Gas Code ANSI Z223.1, also referred to as NFP A 54 and the gas company con- cerning pipe size.

HIGH TEMPERA TURE SHUT OFF SYSTEM T his water heater is equipped with an automatic gas shut off system. T he high temperature shut off is built into the gas control valv e. T his system shuts off the gas supply to the water heater burners w hen high water temperatures are present.
Burner Cleaning In the event y our burner needs cleaning, use the follow- ing instructions: If inspection of the burner shows that cleaning is required, turn the gas control knob clockwise ( ) to the “OFF” position, depressing slightly . NO TE: The knob cannot be turned fr om “PILOT” to “OFF” unless knob is depressed slightly .
