4 ABOUT YOUR WATER HEATER MODEL TYPE Congra tulations for choosing a Rayp ak ® water heater. The model you have chosen is suitable for either indoor or outdoor installation depending on u se of the appropriate installation kit. The operation of the wate r heater depends on the application.
ABOUT YOUR WATER HEATER 5 SAFETY For your safety do not operate this water heat er before reading this instru ction booklet. This water heater is suppli ed with a thermostat, hi-lim it thermostat and a pressure relie f valve. These devices must not be tampered with or removed.
ABOUT YOUR WATER HEATER 6 TO TURN ON THE WATER HEATER WARNING! If you smell gas do n ot attempt to turn on the water heater. • Fill the system with water (re fer to “To Fill the Water Heater ” on page 32) • Open the gas isolation valve fully at the inlet to the water heater.
7 HOW YOUR WATER HEATER WORKS The water heater consists of a gas burn er, a combustion chamb er lined with refractory tile s and a heat-ex changer made of finned copper tubes. Hot flue gases from the burn er pass between the fins on the heat excha nger tubes and heat is transferred first to the fins and then by co ndu ction into the water.
HOW YOUR WATER HEATER WORKS 8 147 MODELS On/Off Operation 147 On/Off models are fitted with an electr onic therm ostat that operates the gas control by switching its power on and off, so a constant temperature is maintained.

SAVE A SERVICE CALL 10 BURNER WILL NOT LIGHT • Is there gas to the water heater? Check the gas isolation val ve on the gas supply line is open. • Is there a normal gas supply to the rest o f the premises? Try lighting another gas appliance. If there is no g as call your gas provider.
11 REGULAR CARE PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE This valve is located in the in/out header of the water heater and is essential fo r its safe operation. It is possible for the valve to release a little water through the drain line dur ing ea ch heating period. This occurs a s the water is heated and expands by approximately 1 /50 of its volume.
12 INSTALLATION THIS WATER HEATER IS NOT SUITABLE FOR POOL HEATING Check the water heater i s suitable for the gas type available. The gas type is marked on the side panel near the gas connection entry and shown on the rating label. All packaging must be re moved from the water he ater prior to its installation .

19 CONNECTIONS – PLUMBING IMPORTANT: When installing a new water heater to an old or exis ting system, it is a requi rement that the system and its equipment be thoroughly in spected and if necessary, drained and flushe d with clean fresh water, before the new water heater is connected.

CONNECTIONS - PLUMBI NG 21 MECHANICAL HEA TING All high points of a mechanical heating system shoul d be provided with manual bleed points or fitted with automatic air vents. The design of the system must be such that the water heater is pro vided with adequate water flow and pressure at all times (refer to ‘Pump Selection’ on page 20.
22 CONNECTIONS – ELECTRICAL All electrical work and permanent wirin g must be carried out by a qualified person an d in accordance with t he Wiring Rules AS/NZS 3000 and local aut hority requirements. The water heater is supplied with a 1.8 metre lead and plug and requires a 240 V 50 Hz general p urpose outlet (GPO) to be located within 1.
CONNECTIONS - ELECT RICAL 23 WIRING A POWER FLUED SYSTEM TO THE WATER HEATER An indoor model can be wired to a power flued system. A power fl ued system must be designed by a qualified person to suit the particular inst allation.

30 SAFETY PRECAUTIONS Ceramic fire tile refractori es are used in Raypak wa ter heaters. Refractories must be treated with care because they can be harmf ul by inhalation and irrita ting to the skin, eyes and respiratory system. 31 COMMISSIONING COMMISSIONING MUST ONLY BE UNDE RTAKEN BY AN AP PROPRIATELY LICENSED PERSON WHO IS FAMILIAR WITH SAFE CO MMISSIONING PROCEDURES. Ceramic fire tile refractori es are used in Raypak wa ter heaters.
32 OPERATING THE WATER HEATER FOR YOUR SAFETY READ BEFO RE LIGHTING TO FILL THE WATER HE ATER Water Heating Applications • Open all of the hot water tap(s) in the building (don’t forget the showers) and supply cock(s) and valve(s) in the system.
33 BURNER PRESSURE ADJUSTMENT GAS INLET PRESSURE IMPORTANT – CHE CK the gas supply pressure at the inl et to the water heater with th e water heate r and all other gas burning appliances in the pre mises operating (burners alight). The minimum gas supply pressure s are: Natural Gas - 1.
BURNER PRESSURE ADJUSTMENT 34 Hi/Lo Models To adjust the burner pressure on a wate r heater with a White Rodgers 36E20 Ty pe 301 Hi/Lo gas control, proceed as follows: 109 Hi/Lo Models • Remove the screw and washe r from the burner feed pipe pressure tap.
35 TEMPERATURE CONTROL HOTTER WATER INCREASES THE RISK OF SCALD INJURY. This water heater can deliv er water at temperatures which can cause scaldi ng.
