7 Chapter 1: DSM Installation 1.1 Intr oduction T his chapter provides details for mounting th e DSM300 and DSM 30 and connecting to the display . F or the system to display depth, w ater temperature and speed, you mu st install the transducer type(s) capable of transmitting the ap propriat e data.
8 DSM300 and DSM30 In stallation Manual • T he equipment is supplied fr om a separa te battery from that used for engine start. V oltage drops bel ow 10 V and st arter motor t ransients can cause the equipment to reset. T his will not damage th e equipment, but may cause the loss of some informa- tion and may ch ange the operat ing mode.

Save the carton and packing, in case you need to retu rn the unit for service . Check that you have all the correct system components: Power Cable, 3m part no.

12 DSM300 and DSM30 In stallation Manual T o mount the DSM: 1. Hold the modul e in the l ocation wh ere you w ant to moun t it, makin g sure it is perpendicular to the deck. 2. Mark the location of the four k ey holes onto th e mounting surfac e . 3. Drill a 9/64" pilot hole at eac h o f t he mar k ed l oca ti ons .
Chapter 1: DSM Installation 13 Note: For fiberglass with a gelcoat surface, you should overdrill the surface to prevent the gelcoat from chippi ng when driving in t he screw. Before drilling the p ilot hole, hand drill the marked location with an o versized bit and countersink to approximat ely 3/8" diame- ter.
14 DSM300 and DSM30 In stallation Manual 1.5 Cable Runs Consider t he followi ng before installing the system cables: • Y ou will need to attach power , transducer , and display cables. • All cables should be adeq uately secu red, protected from physica l damage , and protected from exposure to heat.
Chapter 1: DSM Installation 15 T ransducer Connection A 30 ft (10 m) cable is su pplied with the transducer . T his cable has a connector plug (with an outer nut that you must att ach) at one end for attaching to the “T/D” connector o n the sound er module.

T h e unit turn s on when the power cord is attached t o boat’ s power and plug ged into the POWER conn ector on th e connector panel. Note: You should locate the D SM so that the power cord can be easily removed , if necessary.

18 DSM300 and DSM30 In stallation Manual Ground Connection It is important that an effective RF groun d is connected to the system. A single ground point sh ould be used for all eq uipment. Y ou can ground the sounder module by connecting the drain wir e (shield) of th e P ower Input cab le to the boat’ s RF ground.

20 DSM300 and DSM30 In stallation Manual Configuring hsb 2 PLUS (P athfinder) Series Displays hsb 2 PLUS network cables have a tr iangular 3-p in connector on both ends. When using the DSM with an hsb 2 PLUS Seri es display , connect the supplied 4-pin to 3-pin hsb 2 adapter between the so under modul e and the net work cable.

If your transducer becomes fouled or stops working beca use of sand or sea growth, u se a stiff bru sh to clean i t.
