7 Important Information Intended Use T he A60 is a GP S Chartplotter display u nit that can be upgrad ed to include optional Fishfinder function ality . T his handbook contains im portant information on the op eration of your A60. T o get the best results in operat ion and perfor mance , pl ease tak e the time to read it thoroughly .

9 Chapter 1: Using the Display T he A60 is a GP S Chartplotter display u nit that can be upgrad ed to include fishfinder capabilities. T he A6 0 comes equipped with a 5.
10 A60 Dual Function Display Note: The A60 sets its internal clock from the GPS. Therefore, time of day is not available until a GPS fix is acquired. After this initial fix, the A60 continues t o update its internally stored time of day, even if GPS fix is lost.

In turn, these pages can be split in to 2 side-by- side windo ws .T he settings you choose are saved so that each time you o pen an application it is prese nted in the same way .

14 A60 Dual Function Display Fishfinder P age T his function requ ires that you have in stalled the opti onal DSM25 Digita l Sounder Module . T he fishfinder applicatio n gives you a detail ed view of what is below your vessel. T his includes the seabed and its te xture , fish, and other underwater objects .

26 A60 Dual Function Display Database Lists Database lists contai n information tha t have been added to th e display memory , such as lists provided for w aypoints , tr acks and routes. Y ou ca n scroll through a database list using the trackpad to highlight a partic ular entry .

36 A60 Dual Function Display 2.9 Alarm Setup Menu Y ou receive warnings of hazards via built-in al arms that are generated for each application. If an alarm is generated, it soun ds an audible warning and displa ys a message box on screen that explains t he cause of the alarm.

38 A60 Dual Function Display T his screen provides , for each tracked satellite , the satellite number , a graphical signal strength bar , status , azimuth angle and its elevation angle from your vessel. T he sky view graphic shows the position of these satellites.

42 A60 Dual Function Display WARN IN G: Improper use of this setting may cause l oss of data or damage to the card. Ensur e you have r ead the instructions on page 42 thorou ghly before attempting to r emove or insert a CF card.
Chapter 2: General Operation and Syst em Setup 43 Inserting a CF Card T o insert a card, refer to the illustration, and: 1. Check that you are using the correct type of card. Refer t o Important Infor ma- tion section of this handbook. 2. Open the chart card door , located on the front left of the display .
44 A60 Dual Function Display Removing a CF Card 1. Press MENU . 2. Navig ate to User Ca rd Menu and se lect “Remov e User Card”. A message appears that it is safe for yo u to remove the card. 3. Open the chart card door . Grip the card and pull to remove it from its slot.
Chapter 2: General Operation and Syst em Setup 45 When navigation is a ctive , you can a lso receive waypoints from other NMEA instruments if you want to save them on your unit. Save Information to a CompactFlash Card 1. Insert a CF ca rd into the card slot.
46 A60 Dual Function Display Note: The save can take as long as o ne minute to complete. This is because a 1MB file is always saved to the card, despite the number of waypoints, routes and tracks you are saving . When the save is complete, a new message box appears.

49 Chapter 3: W orking with W aypoints 3.1 Intr oduction W aypoints are a core feature of the A6 0 display . T hey can be created in the Ch art or F ishfinder application and used by each application. Waypoints can be stored in the system, archived to a Compa ctFlash card or sent to or recei ved from anot her NMEA compatible i nstrument.
50 A60 Dual Function Display T he details of all waypoints , irrespective of th e application th ey were created in, are stored in a dedicated Waypoint List.
Chapter 3: Working with W aypoints 51 3.2 Placing a W ayp oint A wa ypoint can be pl aced at the cu rsor position, the boat’ s position or at a position of your choosing (using la t/long coordi nates). All w aypoints can also be used in the creation of routes .

Chapter 3: Working with W aypoints 53 3.3 Navigating to a W aypoint (GO T O) Y ou can navigate to an existing waypoint using the GO T O WP T OPTIONS soft key . T his can either be accessed by selecting the desired waypoint on screen with the cursor or via the WPTS/MOB key.

65 Chapter 4: Using the Chartplotter 4.1 Intr oduction T his chapter describes how to use the Chartplotter applicatio n of the A60 display . T o access full functi onality your chartplotter requires po sition data from your RS12 GPS Sensor .
66 A60 Dual Function Display CAUTION: Navigation Aid The equipment should not be used as a substitute for good navigational pr actice nor for official government paper charts . Do not use the chartplotter before you have r ead the Important Information section at the beginning of this handbook.
Chapter 4: Using the Chartpl otter 67 4.3 What is Displayed T he chartplotter has a buil t in world map. Most areas are displa yed at a scale of 72 nm from the top to th e bottom of the sc reen and can be over zoomed as desired.
68 A60 Dual Function Display 4.4 The Chartplotter Display T he chartplotter includes features that en able you to interpret your surroundings and mak e informed decisions based on your lo cation.
Chapter 4: Using the Chartpl otter 69 Find Ship Y our boat is represented on screen by a ship symbol. If yo u cannot see your boa t (it has travelled off-screen), press FI ND SH IP . The chart is redrawn with your boat and the cursor in the center of the screen.

72 A60 Dual Function Display 4.5 Moving around the Chart T o move aroun d the chart a nd display th e area at th e appropri ate scale , use a combinat ion of zoomi ng and pann ing. P anning P anning moves the chart that is displayed to a different area.

78 A60 Dual Function Display T he following should be noted: • When a route is being built it is not active and does not affect an y current nav- igation, un til you s elect FOLLOW ROUTE. • Y ou can include a waypoint mor e than once in a route but the same w aypoint cannot be placed con secutively .

84 A60 Dual Function Display Reverse Route T his option reverses the w aypoint order in the selected r oute and then fol lows it. 1. Press ROUTES . 2. Press FOLLOW RTE OPTIONS . T h e route list is displayed. 3. Select the desired route on the list. 4.
Chapter 4: Using the Chartpl otter 85 4.8 Using T racks A track is an on-screen trail that represen ts the course you have ta k en. T his trail is made up of a series of trac k points that are create d automatically . Y ou can save the track to create a permanent record of where you have been.
86 A60 Dual Function Display Creating a T rack T o start tr acking... Press ST AR T TRACK. A track starts to be laid from the stern of the boat using the minimum number of track points necessary . If the maximum number of 1000 track points is reached, you will be warned.
Chapter 4: Using the Chartpl otter 87 On completion , the new r oute is adde d to the rou te list. It can now be di splayed, edited and erased in the same wa y as other routes in the system. CAUTION: The converted r oute only appr oximates the tr ack fr om which it was created.
88 A60 Dual Function Display Reversing a Route Y ou can reverse the course of a route as follows: 1. Press ROUTES and then FOLLOW RTE OPTIONS . T h e route list and associated soft k eys are shown. 2. Select the appropriate route. 3. Press REVERSE ROUTE.

Note: If you place the cursor over the waypoint to which you are c urrently navigating (the active waypoint), the STOP FOLLOW so ft key appears in place of t he action keys.
94 A60 Dual Function Display Erasing a Route or T rack Y ou can delete any rou te or track in your system except for the one that you are traveling to . 1. Select the appropriate route or track. 2. Pres s ERASE ROUTE or ERASE TRACK. A warn ing box is displayed asking you whether you w ant to proceed.

The length of th ese lines is determined by the distance your boat will travel in th e time you have specified (3 mins , 6 mins or infinite) at the current speed.

As your boat’ s COG changes , the ship symbol moves accordingly . If you select a new course , the picture will reset to disp lay the new course upwards .
98 A60 Dual Function Display Hiding the Chart Grid T he display of grid lines on the chart is controlled via the Chart Setup Menu. Hiding W aypoints/W aypoint Information Y ou can show or hide a w aypoint’ s name or the entire waypoint.
