Unplug th e telephone’s modul ar cord from the m odular p hone line jack and plug it i nto th e TO T E L jack o n the back of the T AD.
7 Notes: • Be s ure not to press any of the T AD’ s buttons whil e you are plug- ging the adapter into the AC out- let. If you accid entall y press a button, reset the T AD by unplu g- ging the adapter from the AC out - let and rei nserting i t. • T he T AD cannot operate without AC pow er .

9 2. Press 1/TI ME . The T AD says “Press one for Monday . Press two for T uesday . Press three for Wednesday . Press four for Thurs- day . Press five for Friday . Press six f or Satu rday . Press seven for Sunday .” 3. Press a n umber button to s et the day of the week.
10 RECORDING ANNOUNCEMENT S Recor ding the Ou tgoin g An nounc eme nt The TAD has a built-in outgoing an- nouncement that s ays “Pleas e leave your message after the tone.” You can record a nother annou nce- ment for the caller to hear when the TAD answers a call.
11 Re cord i ng th e Me mo ry F ull An nounc eme nt The TAD has a built-in m emory full a n- nouncement . When t he mem ory be- comes full and the TAD ca n no longer record messages, the ON LINE, PLAY, and ME MO i ndicators flash, and the TAD an nounces to t he caller “The me mor y is full .
12 BASIC O PERA TION Be sure you complete the proced ures in “Install ation ” and “Pr eparation” be- fore you begin us ing the TAD. SETTI NG T HE T AD TO ANSWER/NOT ANSWER CALLS To set the TA D to answer cal ls, simply turn it on by pressing ON/OFF u n ti l th e ON LINE indicator t u rns on.
13 • I f the caller hangs up or is silent for more t han 7 s econds, or i f t he incoming messag e is less than 2 seconds in length, the T AD hangs up and rese ts to answer the next call, but does n ot record a mes - sage.
14 Ch ecking/De leting the An nounc eme nt- Onl y Messag e You can press OGM while the ANN in- dicator is turned on to play the a n- nouncement -only mes sage. A djust VOLUME on t he side of the TAD to a comfortable listening level. To stop li stening to the message be- fore it e nds, press ON/OFF .
15 RECORDING A MEM O A me mo is a m ess age that you reco rd by speaking directly into the TAD, with- out call ing in on the pho ne line. 1. Press and hold MEM O until the T AD beeps. The O N LI NE indica- tor flashes and the ME MO indi ca- tor lig h ts s tea d ily .
16 Playi ng 2-W ay Conve rsations To listen to a recorded 2-way conv er- sation, press 2-W A Y . T h e TA D tel ls you how many 2-way conversations it h as recorded. F or example , if t here are two, the T AD says “Two m essages.” The TAD plays each recorded 2-way conversation, one after the oth er, be- ginning with the most recent on e.
17 DELETI NG MESSAGES The TAD-1009 lets you de lete m es- sages individually (during playback ) or all at on ce (bef ore or af ter play back). To de let e a parti cul ar i nc omi ng messag e, 2-way co.
18 REMOTE OPE R A TION While you a re away f rom y our home or office, you can use a touc h-tone phone or a pulse (rotary) phone with a pocket tone dialer to enter y our remote ope ra- tion security c.
19 REMOTE ANSW ER-ON If the TAD is connec ted to A C power, you can u se any rem ot e phone to turn the TAD on an d set it to answer calls and record messages. To remotely set the T AD to answ er calls, dial your phone number and w ait about 1 2 rings until the TAD ans wers.
20 4. Within 7 sec onds, en ter your selection (see “List o f Rem ote Commands ”). Notes: • If you do not press a but ton within 7 seconds, the T AD hangs up.

22 PR OBLEM-SO L VIN G We do not expect you to hav e any problems with your TAD, but if you do, try these suggest ions. If th e TA D s till does n’t oper at e as y ou thi nk it sho uld, ta ke the TA D t o your local Radio Shack store for assistance.
23 Pro blem Cau se Remedy The TAD does not respond to remote command s. You e ntered an incorrect remote operation security code. C a r e f u ll y re -e nte r your remot e opera- ti on s ec ur i ty co d e . I f the T AD f a i ls to r e - spond, the s ecurity code might have re- set to the default code.
24 RESETTI NG T HE T AD If the TA D locks up for an unknown reason or doe s not operate properly, you might need to reset it. Imp ort an t: Resetting the TAD de letes all recorded m essages (including a ny outgoing announc ement s), date and time settings, numbe r of rings, mes- sage length, and t he rem ote operat ion code.
