3 Read This Before Installation We have designed your Digi tal Answering System to conform to federal regulations, and you can conne ct it to most telephone lines. However, each device th at you connect to the telephon e line draws power from the telephone line .

6 Features ˆ Features Your RadioShack Digital Answering System is a sophisticated, fully digital message center that stores al l messages on a com- puter chip.
7 Preparation ˆ Preparation INSTALLING THE BACKUP BATTERY If AC power fails or you unplug the system, one 9V alkaline bat- tery (not supplied) is needed to save any recorde d messages and the settings for the day and time. For the best pe rformance and longest li fe, we re commend you u se a RadioSha ck alkaline battery.
8 Preparation Notes: • If you did not install a backup battery , Lo , 00 , and -- alternately appear . • Do not press any of the system’ s buttons while you are plugging the adapter i nto the AC outlet. If you accidentally press a button, reset the system by unplugging the adapter from the AC outlet and re-inserting it.
9 Preparation T URNING THE SYSTEM ON/OFF To turn on the system, press ON/OFF/STOP . The display lights and the system sounds a tone. The system is set to answer calls. To tur n it off , pr ess ON/OFF/STOP . The display turns off and the system sounds 2 tones.
10 Preparation the display . Repeatedly press MEMO/2 W A Y/HOUR until you hear or see the correct hour . 4. While holding down SKIP/TIME SET/CHECK, press PLA Y/ P AUSE/MIN . The system announces “01”. 01 appears on the display . Repeate dly press or hold down PLA Y/P AUSE/ MIN until you hear or see the correc t minute.
11 Preparation SETTING THE INCOMING MESSAGE LENGTH Slide INCOMING MSG to 1 or 5 MIN (minutes) to choose the length of incoming messages. If you slide INCOM ING MS G to ANN ONL Y (Announcement Only), the system plays your outgoing message, but the caller cannot record a message.
12 Operation length, the system sounds a tone and plays back the mes- sage. • If you record your own message and subsequently decide to use the prer ecorded message, press REPEA T/ANNC/DA Y to play the message you record ed. While it is playing, press DELETE to erase your message.
13 Operation a Calling Party C ontrol (CPC) sign al, it stops pla ying th e outg o- ing message or recording an incoming message and resets to answer another call. Many local phone compan ies use Calling Party Control (CPC) to signal that the caller has hung up.
14 Operation your message clearly into the microphone from abo ut 10 inches away from the system. Release REPEA T/ANNC/DA Y when you finish your message. The system sound s a tone and plays back the message. A2 and the message indicato r appear alternately.
15 Operation Notes: • If you pick up the phone just as the system answers, the system might not stop playing the message. If this hap- pens, press ON/OFF/STOP on the system or the hook switch on your phone to stop playing the messa ge.
16 Operation 3. When you finish speaking, rel ease MEMO/2 W A Y/HOUR . The system sounds a tone. The number flashes on th e dis- play until you play the memo. RECORDING A T WO-W AY PHONE CONVERSATION You can record both sides of a conversati on on any phone con- nected to the same phone line as the system.
17 Operation The system announces the day and time the message was re- corded. After you play all the new messages, the display sh ows the total number of recorde d messages, and the system auto- matically saves the messages and resets to answer cal ls.
18 Remote Operation To delete all messages after playback, hold down DELETE for about 3 seconds. The system sounds a tone. ˆ Remote Operation While you are away from your home or office, you can use .
19 Remote Operation tone, enter your remote operation securi ty code. Enter a remote command (see “Remote Comma nds” on Page 19). When you finish, press 5# to end remote access. REMOTE COMMANDS Note: When listenin g to messages in remote mode, the re is a pause during playback every 2 minutes and 40 seconds.
