13 OPERA TION T O OPERA TE MO WER (See Fig. 10) Y our tractor is equipped with an oper ator presence sens ing s witch. Any attempt by the oper ator to leav e the seat with the engine running and the attachment clutch engaged will shut off the engine. • Select desired height of cut.
14 OPERA TION T O ST ART ENGINE (See Fig. 7) When star ting the engine f or the fi rst time or if the engine has run out of fuel, it will take e xtra cranking time to mo v e fuel from the tank to the engine. • Be sure freewheel control is in the tr ansmission en gaged position.
15 OPERA TION FIG. 12 PURGE TRANSMISSION CA UTION: Never engage or disengage freewheel le ver while the engine is run- ning. T o ensure proper operation and perf or mance , it is rec om - mend ed that the transmission be purged bef ore operating tractor f or the fi rst time.

17 MAINTENANCE TRA CT OR Alwa ys observe saf ety rules when performing any main- te nance. BRAKE OPERA TION If tractor requires more than six (6) f eet stopping distance at high speed in highest gear , then br ake m ust be adjusted. (See “T O ADJUST BRAKE” in the Service and Ad just ments section of this manual).
18 MAINTENANCE TRANSAXLE COOLING The f an and cooling fi ns of transmission should be kept clean to assure proper cooling. Do not attempt to clean f an or transmission while engine is running or while the transmission is hot. T o prev ent pos- sible damage to seals , no not use high pressure water or steam to clean transaxle.
19 MAINTENANCE MUFFLER Inspect and replace corroded muffl er and spar k arrester (if equipped) as it could create a fi re hazard and/or dam- age. SP ARK PLUGS Replace spark plugs at the beginning of each mowing season or after e very 100 hours of operation, whiche v er occurs fi rst.
20 SER VICE AND ADJUSTMENTS T O REMO VE MO WER (See Fig. 19) • Place attachment clutch in “DIS EN GA GED” position. • If equipped, tur n height adjustment knob to low est set ting. • Low er mower to its lo west position. • Disengage belt tension rod from lock br ack et.
21 Check adjustment on right side of trac tor . P osition any b lade so the tip is pointing straight f orw ard. Measure distance "B" at front and rear tip of the blade . • Bef ore making any necessar y ad just ments, check that both front plate links are equal in length.

23 SER VICE AND ADJUSTMENTS T O ADJUST A TT A CHMENT CLUTCH (See Fig. 26) The electric clutch should provide years of service. The clutch has a built-in br ake that stops the pulle y within 5 seconds. Eventually , the inter nal brak e will wear which ma y cause the mower b lades to not engage , or , to not stop as required.

26 T O REPLA CE HEADLIGHT BULB • Raise hood. • Pull bulb holder out of the hole in the backside of the gri ll. • Replace b ulb in holder and push b ulb holder securely back into the hole in the bac kside of the grill.

29 TR OUBLESHOO TING POINTS Will not start 1. Out of fuel. 1. Fill fuel tank. 2. Engine not “CHOKED” properly . 2. See “T O ST ART ENGINE” in Operation section. 3. Engine fl ooded. 3. Wait se v eral minutes bef ore attempting to start. 4. Bad spar k plug.
30 PROBLEM CA USE CORRECTION Engine continues to run 1. F aulty operator-safety presence control system. 1. Check wiring, s witches and connections. If not when operator leaves seat corrected, contact an authorized service center/ with attachment clutc h department.
