5 ASSEMBL Y • Grasp handle assembly . Hold in “up” position. Be sure handle lock remains in gearcase notch. Slide handle assembly into position. AROUND THE Y ARD • Release the depth stake pin. Mov e the depth stake down to the top hole f or transpor ting the tiller .
10 R U N C H O K E OPERA TION TILLING HINTS (See Fig. 15) CA UTION: Until y ou are accustomed to handling your tiller , start actual fi eld use with throttle in slo w position (mid-way between “F AST” and “IDLE”). • Tilling is digging into , tur ning ov er , and breaking up pack ed soil bef ore planting.
11 • Do not lean on handle. This takes weight off the wheels and reduces traction. T o get through a really tough section of sod or hard ground, apply upward pressure on handle or lower the depth stak e.
12 MAINTENANCE GENERAL RECOMMEND A TIONS The warranty on this tiller does not co ver items that ha ve been subjected to operator ab use or negligence. T o receive full value from the w arranty , the operator must main tain tiller as instructed in this manual.

15 SER VICE AND ADJUSTMENTS CA UTION: Disconnect spark plug wire fr om spark plug and place wire where it cannot come into contact with plug. TILLER T O ADJUST HANDLE HEIGHT (See Fig. 23) Select handle height best suited f or your tilling conditions. Handle height will be diff erent when tiller digs into soil.

17 SER VICE AND ADJUSTMENTS • T o maintain the superb tilling performance of this ma- chine the tines should be checked f or shar pness, wear , and bending, par ticular ly the tines which are ne xt to the transmission. If the gap between the tines e x ceeds 3-1/2 inches they should be replaced or str aight ened as necessar y .

19 ST ORA GE ENGINE OIL Drain oil (with engine warm) and replace with clean oil. (See “ENGINE” in the Maintenance section of this man ual). CYLINDER(S) • Remo ve spark plug. • P our 1 ounce (29 ml) of oil through spar k plug hole into cylinder .
20 TR OUBLESHOO TING POINTS Will not star t 1. Out of fuel. 1. Fill fuel tank. 2. Engine not “CHOKED” proper ly . 2. See “T O ST ART ENGINE” in Operation section. 3. Engine fl ooded. 3. Wait se ver al minutes bef ore attempting to star t. 4. Dir ty air cleaner .
