2 I. GENERAL OPERA TION • Read, understand, and follow all instr uctions in the manual and on the machine bef ore star ting. • Only allow responsib le adults, who are f amiliar with the in struc tions, to operate the machine . • Clear the area of objects such as rocks , to ys, wire , etc.

9 CHECK TIRE PRESSURE The tires on your tr actor were o verinfl ated at the factory f or shipping pur poses. Correct tire pressure is impor tant f or best cutting perf ormance. • Reduce tire pressure to PSI sho wn in “PRODUCT SPEC I FI CA TIONS” section of this manual.

12 OPERA TION The operation of any tractor can result in f oreign objects thro wn into the ey es, which can result in severe e ye dam age . Alwa ys wear safety glass es or eye shields while operating y our tractor or per form ing any adjustments or repair s.
13 OPERA TION T O OPERA TE MO WER (See Fig. 10) Y our tractor is equipped with an oper ator presence sensing s witch. Any attempt by the oper ator to leav e the seat with the engine running and the attachment clutch engaged will shut off the engine. • Select desired height of cut.
14 OPERA TION T O ST ART ENGINE (See Fig. 7) When star ting the engine f or the fi rst time or if the engine has run out of fuel, it will take e xtra cranking time to mo v e fuel from the tank to the engine. • Be sure freewheel control is in the tr ansmission en gaged position.

17 MAINTENANCE TRA CT OR Alwa ys observe saf ety rules when performing any main- te nance. BRAKE OPERA TION If tractor requires more than six (6) f eet stopping distance at high speed in highest gear , then br ake m ust be adjusted. (See “T O ADJUST BRAKE” in the Service and Ad just ments section of this manual).
18 MAINTENANCE CLEAN AIR SCREEN Air screen must be k ept free of dir t and chaff to pre vent engine dam age from overheating. Clean with a wire br ush or compressed air to re mov e dir t and stubborn dr ied gum fi bers. TRANSAXLE COOLING The transmission f an and cooling fi ns should be kept clean to assure proper cooling.
19 01670 MAINTENANCE MUFFLER Inspect and replace corroded muffl er and spar k arrester (if equipped) as it could create a fi re hazard and/or dam- age. SP ARK PLUGS Replace spark plugs at the beginning of each mowing season or after e very 100 hours of operation, whiche v er occurs fi rst.

22 SER VICE AND ADJUSTMENTS T O CHECK AND ADJUST BRAKE (See Fig. 26) Y our tractor is equipped with an ad just able br ake system which is mounted on the right side of the transaxle.
23 • Disengage transmission b y placing freewheel control in “transmission disengaged” position. Pull freewheel con trol out and into the slot and release so it is held in the disengaged position. The rear wheels must loc k and skid when you try to manually push the tractor f orward.

26 ST ORA GE Immediately prepare your tr actor f or storage at the end of the season or if the tractor will not be used f or 30 da ys or more. W ARNING: Ne ver store the trac tor with gas o line in the tank inside a building where fumes may reac h an open fl ame or spark.
