1 Thank you for choosing the SoundPoint ® IP 500 SIP , a full-duplex, handsfree telephone. This unit pro vides business telephony features and functions such as Multiple Call Appearances, Call Hold, T ransfer , and Conference over an IP network. In this User Guide, you will nd ev erything you need to quickly set up your new telephone.
2 Installing SoundPoint ® IP 500 SIP This section provides basic installation instructions and information for obtaining the best performance with the SoundPoint IP 500 SIP telephone. If you require addi- tional information or assistance with your new telephone, please contact your System Administrator .
3 LAN PC HEADSET HANDSET Connecting the Handset and Optional Headset Attaching the Base (Optional) LAN PC HEADSET H ANDSET 1. Connect the short straight end of the telephone cord to the handset and the corresponding longer straight end of the cord to the handset jack on the back of the telephone.
4 Features Line/Speed Dial Keys Use these keys to activate up to three lines or speed dials that can be assigned to your telephone. Speakerphone Microphone Mute Headset Feature Keys Access important features using these keys.

10 Headset Auto Mode As an option, the headset can be permanent- ly enabled to place and receiv e calls from any audio ke ys on the telephone - especially useful for regular headset users.
1 1 Local Director y In addition to a directory of missed, placed, or receiv ed calls, the SoundPoint IP 500 SIP telephone can store a local directory of 200 or more contacts*. Users can add to, delete, edit, dial, search, or instant-message any contact in this list through just a few k ey strokes.
12 Speed Dial Pre-assigned numbers can be associated with line keys for rapid automated dialing. Speed Dial entries are placed consecu- tiv ely underneath assigned line keys on the telephone.
13 Multiple Lines SoundPoint IP 500 SIP can display up to three lines, each associated with their own line k ey to the left of the screen. Lines can be cong- ured for local Directory Numbers (DNs), such as your main extension and a pri vate line or for Speed Dial shortcuts on outbound dialing.
14 V oice and T ext Messaging Users can send and receiv e both V oice * and T ext messages on the SoundPoint IP 500 SIP telephone. Receiv ed messages will be indicated by a ashing Message W aiting Indicator LED on the front of the telephone and optionally a visual notication on the display .
15 Distinctiv e Ringing / Call T r ea tment Users can set distinctiv e incoming ringing tones for callers in their local directory . This allows you to identify a contact by a specic ring tone.
16 Phone Re boot Periodically , the telephone may require a user reboot. Reasons for this could include: • Accepting a new conguration or ne w software • After disconnecting from the network .
17 T roubleshooting • If using an AC wall adapter mak e sure the DC jack is properly con- nected at the rear of the telephone. • If using inline powering from a switch or hub, check that the switc.
